Episode 89: Tales By Moonlight: Storytelling for Youths and Elders in a Historically Black Community with Bukky Akinwale

Episode 89 is special for me as I get to discuss my favourite thesis of all time written by Bukky Akinwale, a grad student at the University of North Texas. Bukky presented this work to a standing ovation at the 2022 Black Applied Behavior Analysts conference. In her thesis, she teaches two wonderful girls, Maliyha and Chevelle, to request, listen and recount stories from Ms. Alma Clark, a 94-year-old Elder and one of the last surviving residents of Quakertown. Quakertown was a thriving community that formerly enslaved people established in Denton, Texas after Juneteenth until 1921 when the White community voted to turn Quakertown into a municipal park.    Continuing Education Credits (https://www.cbiconsultants.com/shop) BACB: 1.5 EthicsIBAO: 1.5 Cultural/EthicsQABA: 1.5 Ethics   Links to Maliya and Chevelle Interviews: Maliyha: https://youtu.be/XtzDTCIbhNQ Chevelle: https://youtu.be/kVUQ3124_JU   Contact Bukky: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bukkyakinwale11   Behaviour Speak Podcast Episodes Referenced: Adrienne Bradley Episode https://www.behaviourspeak.com/e/episode-76-the-next-generation-of-black-leaders-in-behavior-analysis-empowering-success-with-adrienne-bradley-med-bcba-lba/ Malika Pritchet Episode https://www.behaviourspeak.com/e/episode-83-the-ethics-of-research-applying-a-human-rights-and-social-justice-lens-with-dr-malika-pritchett/   Links: All God’s Children Need Travelling Shoes - Maya Angelou https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/3909/all-gods-children-need-traveling-shoes-by-maya-angelou/ Stamped From The Beginning https://www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/ibram-x-kendi/stamped-from-the-beginning/9781568584645/?lens=bold-type-books Tkemlups Residential School  https://tkemlups.ca/kirs/ White Lilacs Book https://books.google.ca/books/about/White_Lilacs.html?id=uwH8cWK7GQIC&redir_esc=y   Research Referenced: Leaf, J.
