So Lisa's got a story that says marriage is over. I guess. Really? Things are moving along. There was a recent study and it says that 85% of people don't think you need to get married to have a fulfilling or committed relationship. Two in five young adults think that the tradition of marriage no longer matters. Oh, so you could still be with somebody and be committed but just not tied enough? Not get married. Not needed. Well, those people over the years say I don't need a piece of paper to prove I'm in love. Well, most celebrities have been doing that forever. Oh, God. But you know why? Because they're financially stable. Right. At the end of the day, I want to get married but it really comes down to a lot of it comes down to finances. I recently saw this old clip of Goldie Hahn and Susan Sarandon and Oprah. And this is like in the early 2000s talking about why they don't need to be married because they're like, I don't, they were basically said they can just love someone to love them because they don't need someone to help them with the financial part of it. She was like, if I want to dress, I can go, I don't be honey, can I get a dress? I'll go buy my dress like I'll do whatever I want because I am independent. It's also why a lot of people end up not getting divorced because of finances. Right. Right. Right. They can't afford it. But define young people because I like, strangely, it seems that I've got three boys and it seems like all of their friends and two of my sons are getting married or just got married. Yeah. But I mean, obviously we're looking on a broader scale. Like, I only have one friend I went to school with that's married. Wow. And I have like one that's getting divorced. I have a couple that are single and never been married. I have one that's like engaged. The new survey finds that one of the biggest reasons is still the sheer cost of getting married and nearly three and four millennials and gen ziers say it's just too expensive to get married in today's economy. It is so much money. It really is. It's stupid money. Yeah. I don't regret my wedding. You know, it costs a lot of money. I I don't regret it at all. But I always have this idea that, you know, having a party getting married, you know, one on one with a justice to the piece. Yeah. And then having a party with all your family and friends is a lot cheaper. That's what I did. Huge. We're right. This is huge wedding. But I don't even remember. And the stress that goes along with it. It's not only the money, but it's the stress with all the detail, the unnecessary detail, the planning, the wedding and the arguing leading up to the wedding. Right. I don't think people feel like it's necessary anymore. They don't feel that pressure like they used to. Who was the celebrity just this just last week posted on Instagram their 15 year wedding anniversary. There were two celebrities and they said they got married. They just basically went up to Maine alone. Nobody else they eloped. They went into town hall and got married and had their honeymoon came home. Yeah. Nobody even knew. I'm trying to remember those celebrity. I don't know. That's a much cheaper option, you know. And it shouldn't be about money. But it was our local celebrities. It was oh, Joanne Chang and Christopher Myers. Oh, and it was a beautiful post. Yes. It really was. And they couldn't be happier. Wow. No regrets about the way they did it. Did they have a party or anything? Nope. They could have had any wedding in the world. Okay. They both did very well. Joanne Chang. Yeah, wait. Did they serve have food? Did they eat dinner? What? What did they have for dinner? Well, I'm sure they probably went out to dinner and I sinned in Maine. Yeah, and dumplings. Joanne Chang is pulling from the family recipes again this week. Her mama's famous dumplings. Congratulations. We're good too. Her mama's famous dumplings. Yeah. So isn't there a law that if you are with somebody, if you live with them, a certain amount of time, you're considered married? I don't. It's a very state to state. Common law. It doesn't really hold up in court when it comes to the divorce proceedings or the married proceedings because I know someone that was like living with someone for like over seven years, they got married and they're only married for a few years, but they went off of how they were married for when it came to the settling everything. Well, I know watching my boys and all of their friends. It just seems like they don't want the responsibility. The mentality has changed somewhat. Well, well, first of all, it's the whole thought about getting married is normally to start a family. That is normally how it goes. You get married, you start a family. People my age are not starting families because we can't afford ourselves, never mind children. So I think that's a big part like like inflation and how like the housing market's gone up eight thousand percent. Like rent rent. Like I pay a mortgage for my rent. Like my parents mortgage is less than my rent. Like it's so at the end of the day, it's like you can't afford a family and you can't afford a wedding, but you know, and I also, to Lisa's point about finances, I think a lot of us prematurely moving with people to save money and then the relationships crumble before you even get married because now we're living together before we even get married because we can't afford to live alone. So, I mean, people got married and didn't even live together before. And now we're, we got to live together for four years and then we realize we hate each other and we don't even get married. So is marriage over, Lisa? Oh man, what about Cupid's checklist, dude? Might well ask yourself some questions before you get too serious about marriage. We call this Cupid's checklist. Oh. First, do you have similar backgrounds? Second, are you real friends, comrades, pals, through thick and thin? Third, do you both understand marriage? Although not the kind in most movies are most popular songs, but the real everyday kind of marriage, between real people. Do you understand it? Yeah. My recommendation is if you're not sure who you're with, don't do it because it's so much easier to get married than it is to get divorced. Yeah. Oh man. It is so hard to unravel something. It's so easy to walk in. Yeah. Yeah. That's a good point, Lisa. It's so true. It's so easy to go in. It's so hard to come on. I'm sorry. I know people in my family who are, you know, generations older than me, we're talking 70s, 60s, whatever, and they have been married for years and they haven't been together in years because they just couldn't afford to get divorced and it back to religion. You know, they don't believe in divorce because of their religion and they've been miserable the entire for 30 years, but they've been married for 50. Like, but. And then you have very true. The people who are married and really want to get divorced, but don't because of the kids. So you have kids to get married or you got married to have kids and now you have kids and you can't get divorced. It's a lot of people. I know they're older are miserable, but they're just still married, but they're miserable. And you look at that, you're like, I don't want to be like that. I don't want to. That's my, I never want to be like that. I never want to be older and miserable, not want to be with my wife unhappy. That's one of my worst fears. Like, my parents are the one of the only people in their age range that I know that are actually happy in their marriage. Same with mine, which is amazing. Yeah. My parents have been married for over 50 years. And they're like besties. They travel the world together. Yeah. Yeah. And look at that. And look at your mom, Lee's happy, healthy. Oh, they're loving the empty nest. I mean, they're embracing it. Yeah, more than ever. They travel the world and they love each other. Yeah. Yeah, marriage in all bad. Marriage is not about animal lusting and kinky sex games. It's not so much about who's the dog and who's the fire hydrant tonight. It's it's it's deeper than that. The longer a marriage lasts, the longer you can go without sex. It's time for today's Lucky Land horoscope with Victoria Cash. Life's gotten mundane.
