This is Lily and Lisa in the morning. The Monday show. Let's go. Come on, people. Break it. Let's do this. Unkiss 108. Well, OK. Wake up, everybody. And a happy Monday to you today is the very first day of the month of July. So here we go. Fourth of July, week starts today. Actually starts this morning. Big fourth of July, week. And boy, did we have a crazy weekend. I mean, there was so much going on. Friday night was Janet Jackson. Lisa, you went to Janet Jackson. I did, as well as Justin's mother-in-law, Nani. So we are well represented at Janet. And I have to say, loved it. Loved every single second of it. We stayed until the very end. And I wanted more. Yeah, and apparently, Justin, your mother-in-law, Nani, stole the show at the Janet Jackson. Yeah, that's what I hear. I was getting reports that she was taking pictures with listeners, selfies. There was-- she was a big hit once the words spread in her section that she was my mother-in-law from Kiss 108. It was, you know, "I'm Nani from Kiss 108." You know, it was pictures. She was holding up cigarette packs in the pictures. It was just like one hit after another. But she did say the show was amazing. It was the best. Yeah. On your feet, the entire show, right? It was amazing, yeah. And then Saturday night, me and my wife, Michelle, Lisa, and her husband, Tim, and Winnie and Cage, her girlfriend, all went to Justin Timberlake. That was another concert. We never sat down. No. I mean, the entire concert, we were on our feet. The production value was insane. I've never seen anything like it. There was this immersive box like that hovered over the stage. It tilted, right? Yeah, it moved. It was insane. "Cry Me a River" was the coolest thing I've ever seen. Yeah, the LED screen, the way it started off with, you know, a big screen. But then the middle of it came out into its own, like, set a box that moved all over the stage. And then at the end, on mirrors, he got on top of it. And it went over the crowd. It was insane. I don't know what he spent on production value, but it-- incredible, incredible. Has that box ever been used? I've never seen that used. Or at least you and I were talking over the weekend, like, these production things that he's got. I've never seen anything like it. Yeah. How does he adapt it to every arena that he goes to? Even his microphone at one point was a lightsaber. Yeah. His microphone came. And he was like this floppy thing that he was dancing around, and then he took it out. And then it was a lightsaber. It was the craziest thing. Yeah, the videos-- I mean, I had FOMO. I wasn't there, but the videos looked insane. But I will say, I know he's not really the most like person at this time in 2024, but Kanye West. The best content I've ever been to was a Kanye West show with a garden. Yeah. And it was the box. Yeah, but-- He's floated across. No, but it didn't come out from the middle. It did. It went across the whole garden. No, no, I'm saying it was one big screen in the middle that came out. I know he was one box. Like, this was one large screen at first, and then in the middle, the screen came out. I don't know what she's talking about, but there was a floating box over the crowd. OK, OK. That tilted forward. Maybe that's where he got the idea. I've always said he's the most creative artist, I think. And he proved it with his concert and the production and their special effects. Right, and his dancers. Oh, the band was outstanding. How does he do it night after night? I mean, he sings and he dances in every single song. And by the way, his dance troupe was outstanding too. Yeah, they were great. Anyway, crazy weekend in Boston. And Timberlake was in the garden again last night. And I guess his wife, Jessica Beals in town. She was there on Saturday night. Yeah, she was. She was she was like there's a B stage where he does like more of like a slow down version of stuff. And she was there over that area in the standing room area. Yeah, VIP. Yeah, like I said, crazy week. I did see the garden gifted Timberlake some custom Air Force one Celtics championship Air Force ones. Yeah, those look sick. We met so many fans of this show in case 108 at that show. It was really nice like getting to talk to everybody. And so many of them were like they bought these VIP tickets. Right? Yeah, yeah. And we walked over to them because they had these lanyards on. And I thought they were like with the show. And they were like, no, so they were in that standing room area where Jessica Beal was. Wow. Yeah, it was it was a great night. And people were all very nice to us. And I'm sure it was the same with you with winning. Yeah, yeah. Oh my god, I met so many. So many nice people. All they care about was Billy. Hi, Billy. Oh, there they are. Well, hi, Billy. OK, and no, Lisa and I were it was very nice. It was really just left and right. Really fun. So that's nice. Thank you so much for well listening to us in the morning. And thanks for being a part of the show. And you can always be a part of the show. People come up and they talk to us and they say, oh, this, this. I said, call in. Call in. You can call into this show anytime 6179311108. I'm just saying. And also, a lot of people-- I hear this a lot from listeners when I meet them. They say, I always think about leaving one of those talk backs. That's what they always say. Yeah. So, you know, today is a good day. You know, you do it on the iHeart app. You can download it. It's free. Yeah, yeah. Just get on kiss 108 and tap the red microphone. It's easy. The giveaways continue 710 this morning. We've got tickets to pink. We do. We do. And post morning 810. Yeah. How about that? Post Malone tickets go on sale at 10 this morning. We're giving them away at 810 this morning. Justin, your wife Jen already got Post Malone tickets. She bought them. How? Yeah, she tried to get them on the presale. And on Friday or Thursday, they sold out instantly. So she went on like one of the game time stub hub. Little boy. And paid the resale for them. She has to be up front row. That's pricey. So I didn't even ask how much she paid. Justin said he was happy he didn't have to pay for him. That's all he said. Yeah, I'll just bet they were pricey, boy. Well, you know, her best friend Katie, who's also a big, posty stand, right? Her dream in life. Ready for this, Lisa? She's going to bring a marker and they're going to get it right up front. And when Post Malone interacts with them after the show ends, what she usually does. She's going to ask him to sign her body. And then she's going to get it tattooed. Yeah, I've seen that before. People do that. One part of her body is the bigger question. I don't know. I think she's taking any of that. Oh, that's kind of cool though. Yeah, I mean, I guess. Boy, that's a real fan. Yeah. I can't think of anyone. I'd get an autographed tattooed on me. Billy Costa. No, no, he's got enough fans. Yeah, feel free winning. I'll sit there if you get it done. OK, great. Anyway, yeah, big weekend. But a lot going on still over the weekend elsewhere outside of Boston, the Glastonbury Festival happened. And it had a couple of very cool moments. Camila Cabello was there. We're going to hear from her. She'll talk about this new collaboration with Drake. And a lot of people went to the movies, including Lisa Donovan over the weekend. We'll talk about that as well. It's all coming up next. We're back with a Billy and Lisa in the morning on Kiss 108. Yeah, we're back. We're going to go right to the phones. We have Danielle on the phones. I guess Danielle, you were hanging out with Justin's mother in La Nani this weekend. Oh, my God. Yes, I was. So me and my two of my friends went to Janet. And so I'm the funny because on the way up there, I said, you guys have to listen to Kiss 108. It's so good. It's so funny. So we get to the concert. We get to our seats. And this woman, the woman and the two of her friends come down. And my friend actually said to her, oh, you get the best dressed award tonight. And then they sit down. And my other friend on the other side of me starts chatting up with this with the woman. And so my friend turns to me. She says, oh, Danielle, this is Justin's mother-in-law from Kiss 108. And I went, oh, my God. Nani! [LAUGHTER] This was Nani. Yes, she was hysterical. She was talking about Abel, Demma. She was talking about how she caught Justin and Jen. [INTERPOSING VOICES] All right, we're going to have so much family secrets. The money walked in on you and Jen? I'm texting her right now. Is she serious? Honestly, I've heard that story, too. All right. Oh, my God. Well, thank you, Danielle. Yeah. Wow. Oh, my God. She left that part out. Yeah. My favorite Nani story isn't always will be. She went to comics, come home one year, and brought a date. And her date, the guy, left the garden to go across the street to the liquor store to get a six-pack thinking he could bring it back in, rather than buy drinks. Yeah, he didn't want to spend any more money on beer. So he thought, yeah, he could just leave the garden. They were free tickets. What a bum. Yeah, I know. The tickets. Yeah. The best is that, you know, back to you. You used to argue. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You know, she had never met back, so they never met each other. Right. And they were in the same row. And so, Bex was trying to come in late across. Oh, yeah. She had to walk by everybody. And I'll share with Nani. Go, come on, hon. Move it along, hon. Move it along. Oh, man. Let's get to entertainment. Now, the entertainment update with the Billy Cotton. Again, the giveaways continue this morning. We've got Pink Ticket 710 this morning post Malone tickets at 810. Keep in mind, post Malone tickets go on sale this morning at 10 o'clock. Huge weekend in Boston this weekend, Lisa, Janet Jackson Friday night, you said it was just perfect. Right. Perfect show. And she looks great. She sounded amazing. She looked good. She was on time. It wasn't like Madonna at all. On time. That's new. I have to say, like Janet still has it. Yeah. I saw the video. Yeah. And she did like a whole thing for Michael. She played that, but it was like really like smart and good. Yeah. And then, of course, Justin Timberlake Saturday night. And again, last night and me and Michelle, Lisa and Tim, Winnie and Cage, all went to the Justin Timberlake show Saturday night. That was a great, a great, great show. Meantime. So Jessica Beale was there, right? She was there Saturday night. Yeah. It was on Kisses Instagram. She was standing in like that VIP section. Wow. That's pretty cool stuff. And on stage... Well, she went to Tufts. So she is a connection here. Oh, I didn't know that. Yeah. She went to school here. On stage, Justin had two stages. And at one point, he came to the other end of the garden. And he had a quick joke about his DUI arrest, and this was it. Hello. Hello. Is there anyone here tonight that is driving in Tufts? Yeah. That made the Daily Mail. Really? Yeah. Short and sweet. Everybody got it right away. Okay. Mm-hmm. And he's... What's he going to do? A Zoom hearing or something on the DUI thing? Yeah. He's going to be in Poland, I think. Oh, God. Oh. Yeah. With your... With my relatives. Your ancestors. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And the Glastonbury Festival happened over the weekend. Dua Lipa, Scissor, Camila Cabello, Coldplay, all in the lineup. Very cool moment. Michael J. Fox joined Coldplay on stage. And poor Michael, he has suffered for a long time. Such a nice guy. And Camila Cabello was at the Glastonbury Festival, and she did her Drake song, and she talks about the Drake song right here. I shot my shot on the DMs with Drake, and he was an artist that I really listened to a lot throughout this project because I just feel like he is such a great writer and so witty and sharp and has such... He's just like fucking bars out. He was... Ryan, and was like, "Yeah." I'd love to listen. Because I think I was like, "I want to play you songs, and I'd love to hear your feedback, hear what you think." And he was like, "Yeah, I'd love to listen." And so I played him a few songs, and he, you know, gave me feedback, and he was like, "I love it." And then I think it was like a couple of weeks later that he sent me the idea, he sent me the idea for Hot Up Town. Literally, I think booked a studio that day, and sent him my verse back, and recorded my cook on it, and then we kind of chopped it so it sounded like a duet. Okay, I hope I dumped that in time, Justin, can you just edit that next time? There was an F-bomb. There was an F-bomb that... Oh, there it was. Yeah. I hit dump, I don't know if it was Valsana. Okay. Now, also in that clip, does she have her toes in the water or something? Well, we played another. Yeah, it was from the same interview. Interview, yeah. Sounds like she's side. Yeah, it's a rippling some water there. The current or something. Really? Do you think it's weird that she de-yummed him and that her, her reps didn't just call his, right? A lot of these collaborations these days start with a DM. Really? Yeah. And, you know, poor Camila, right? She gets two Drake features at a time where everybody's anti-Drake, the big B happen, everybody's kind of out on Drake. And actually, this was the end result of that collaboration. I don't like, yeah, it's good, yeah, a lot of loss track. Why is everybody down on Drake? Well, he had a big feud with Kendrick Lamar and basically, Kendrick Lamar won the beef. And, yeah. Now, Janaya Twain took the stage at the Glastonbury Festival and the production and the microphone were way off. You got to listen to it. Yeah, it was a little off, but you know what's cool? Everybody was still clapping and standing on their feet and going crazy. That song doesn't get tired. Yeah. She should have just lip synced on it. So the BET Awards last night, Will Smith performed an unreleased song that really didn't go over while on social anyway. The comments are pretty ruthless. I saw one that said the song should have stayed unreleased. It's tough out there. They're a tough crowd. Taylor Swift had her shows in Dublin, Ireland over the weekend. You two center flowers backstage, which was kind of cool. And Stevie Nix was there, Julia Roberts was there. Boy, she brings up the stars. He surprised her to the last show. They're so sweet. More and more reports over the weekend, Ben Affleck moved his belongings out of the mansion that he and JLo shared. That's not looking very good. When will they just announce it, I wonder? I know. God. And a lot of people went to the movies over the weekend. The Inside Out 2 movie took the top spot with 57 million, a quiet place, Day 1, 53 million. And you went to a quiet place. I did. I went to Showcase, Chestnut Hill. The theater was packed. And I loved it. It was like an hour and a half. Like it was perfect. And Lupita Nwanga is amazing. It was really good. It was really scary. And this is a prequel, right? It's Day 1. Yeah, so it's like what happened, like what happened. You would love it. I know you're not into sci-fi, but it's a good story. Yeah. So last night, Michelle and I watched The Family Affair with Zach Efron and Nicole Kidman. It's a rom-com. He's been talking about this since 5 AM Lisa. He's popping up on my Things to Watch. Yeah, it's funny. The opening scene has Sabrina Carpenter's espresso. Oh. That's the song. And then one of the songs offer album plays later in the movie as well. Boy that Zach Efron. He's kind of jacked, huh? He is. He's super jacked. It's almost fake. Well, it definitely has some filler, I think, down in his face. I think he's also taken some other things that have made everything grow on him, including his head. Yeah. I got to tell you though. It's kind of cartoonish. Yeah. I don't go to rom-coms. I don't usually watch a rom-com, but we both liked it. It was good. Well, Nicole Kidman's so good. She was really good in it. Costner's Horizon came in third place over the weekend and something else happened over the weekend. The Hawk Tour Girl joins Zach Bryant on stage in Tennessee. This is out of control. This is my favorite story. This is who we are as American now. The Hawk Tour Girl has merchandise. I mean, she's going to be ever, I'm telling you, she's going to be on Dancing with the Stars. But now there are a lot of parody songs all over social media. We got a couple there, Justin. Why will her up so she can give me top? Baby, I need you to wake up and give me that heart to her. I need you to spit on that back. Give me one more. I love this. It's just who we are. I got the truth. She's got the truth. I'm going to wrap him up in a loving arms. With a close in her eye, she's ready to sing. Gonna give him that heart to her and stand on that thing. I'm telling you. She's going to make millions. She's the new Cash Me Outside Girl. Yes. And you know what? She's doing very well for herself. Oh my gosh. Didn't she make millions? Millions. Millions. Yeah. She just had a baby. I mean, she's thriving. So, yeah. I know. I don't know if it was planned or not. I mean, I was watching one video where they said she was just at the show, and people started recognizing her, and then he pulled her up. Yeah. That's the new Cash Me Outside Girl. Yeah. Yeah. Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers married Olivia Calpel over the weekend in Rhode Island. It's at the same time. Yeah. Yeah. Right next to where Taylor Swift has her house. It's beautiful. Oh, yeah. And did you see two guys from Massachusetts made the U.S. men's gymnastics set? Yes. Was it Worcester? One is Worcester and one is Stoughton. Yeah. They're going to the Olympics in Paris and Simone Biles, I guess, had a jaw dropping. Florida. Florida. What do they call it? The floor exercise. Yeah. Olympic Games in Paris. Getting this shout out to Mikey V and Kelsey. They had a pre-wedding party yesterday at Noroli in Westwood. By the way, great restaurant. Great restaurant. Really beautiful restaurant, and it was a great time. A lot of people turned out for the pre-wedding party. And a reminder, seven, ten this morning, we've got pink tickets, and then eight, ten this morning, we've got the post Malone tickets. Those go on sale at 10 o'clock this morning. And we will break down the Karen Reed trial, the jury back to liberating this morning. We'll do that right after seven o'clock this morning. And we're brought to you by Boston Vision. From the Planet Fitness Kids 108 Studios, we're back with Billie and Lisa in the morning. On Kids 108. Yeah, we're back and we're sitting on a pair of pink tickets right now. Pink is coming in to Gillette Stadium August 21st with her summer carnival tour and we've got a pair of tickets for color 25. You will need a key word if you get through and the key word is deadlocked. Deadlocked is the key word and while we wait for color 25, speaking of deadlocked, the jury and the Karen Reed trial Friday told the judge they were deadlocked and we've got Steve Cooper outside the courthouse right now. So Steve, what's happening next? Right. So the jury is going to get back to work this morning at nine o'clock and as you mentioned on Friday, that sort of bombshell announcement at noon time when they had a note that they sent to the judge and we all went back into the courtroom and there's this drama like what could they possibly be asking and then the judge read the note out loud. To everyone in the courtroom and it basically said that after exhausted efforts and looking over everything, we cannot reach a verdict, a unanimous verdict. So that sort of left a hush over the crowd and inside the courtroom and definitely outside as well. And so she listened to both sides and then she said, okay, we're going to send the jury back out again and we're going to tell them to keep deliberating. Hmm. Go ahead, Lisa. Hey, Steve. Have you noticed like they stepped up security outside the last couple of days? A big, big time. I was actually just going to say that, you know, I noticed it on Friday. Suddenly when Karen Reed and her legal team came in and out and, you know, the Oak Beach family, they were instead of coming on one side of the courthouse, they were taking them on a secret different way with extra security. And I mean, literally on Friday, I saw so many police officers actually counted because I was like, wow, I don't know where all these people came from, but there was definitely more security. And by the way, yes, Friday afternoon, the police have to break up both sides that were outside the supporters again, Reed and the supporters are a key, literally getting in the middle. We were at the cameras rolling, not as many as Netflix had, but we had plenty of cameras rolling. And I thought they were going to be punches. So they're brawling in the streets now. So Steve, they're a camera crew from all over the world, right? Like France, Germany, everywhere, I mean, keep arriving and, and there are also people coming from everywhere and when you talk to these people, it's people that are on vacation, summer vacation, they're tourists, they've heard about it. People are just literally flocking to Dedham to come see this. Imagine that. So you've got a summer vacation, you say, let's drive from Alabama to Boston so we can stand outside a courthouse in Dedham. And a mother and a daughter did that and they were coming from Dallas, Texas and did that. And in Alabama, there you go. And you just look at them and say, why? And you know, it's just, it's incredible to see. And of course, now that they're entering, not just the fifth day of deliberations, but this trial started four months ago, April, May, June, and it's July. So quickly, Steve, what's the consensus? The jury announcing they were deadlocked on Friday. Is this a good or a bad thing for Karen Reed? Right, so I think the thing is, is that nobody knows what that breakdown is of why they can't reach the unanimous verdict. Is it 11? You know, the 12 members of the jury, obviously, none of the two alternate. So if you take the number 12, is it 11 to 1 in 11 people are trying to convince that 12th person or, as I was saying to people over the weekend, it might be 6'6 and keep in mind it's six men and it's six women. So is it down the gender line? Is it down something? I mean, and that's going to change everything because as they deliberate, since we don't know that number, how many people can you convince to come to your side? Now, I was talking to a friend of mine over the weekend who is in the court system and he says if they come back again, let's say it is ruled that it's a deadlock, then everybody finds out what the jurors were thinking and how the jurors voted. Well not necessarily because they don't have to give, they're not supposed to give the number, the breakdown, the judge says when they write a note, do not tell me that number. But last year in the Lopes trial, they did give the numbers 11 to 1 and then we couldn't be found out why it was 11 to 1, but they're not supposed to do that. And now the judge, if they come back again today, deadlock, she has to read them that two-year-old Regus charge, this is no other jury that can come up with a better decision than you and send it back out. But then when they come back another time after she reads that charge, then she has to declare a missed trial. Wow. And then the options I believe would be a new trial dropping the case or offering a plea deal? Right, and somebody said to me on Friday, they said even if they decide to do it again, they might try the case somewhere else like far away, like in the other side of the state, like Pittsfield or Springfield or somewhere else, because they couldn't, what's happening right now, I don't see how they could do this again, around two of this and it would happen probably in the winter or in the fall and that just be putting people out there in the middle of winter. That's pretty hard to believe. All right, so that's the voice of Steve Cooper, Channel 7 News here in Boston and across New England, standing outside the courthouse as the jury prepares to come back for a fifth day. Steve, thanks again as always. Great job. All right. Have a good day, you guys. All right. Let's go to the phones. Alex is color 25. Alex, yes, you are color 25, you have a keyword. Deadlock. Deadlock is the keyword. So Alex, you now have a pair of tickets to see pink August 21st. How did you let stadium? It's called the summer carnival tour. Alex, hold on and produce a ride and we'll get all your deets, so to speak, and you're going to see pink. Billie and Lisa, every morning, kiss 108. Good morning, everybody. I'm going to miss Catherine after the verdict comes in. She's become part of my morning routine. Thanks for all that you do for us, Catherine, and teaching us. Bye. And now, Catherine, it is in studio, so Catherine, we had Steve Cooper on a couple of minutes ago. Did you get a chance to listen? I didn't. I'm sorry, I missed it. They were talking about how security is extremely beefed up now around the courthouse. I bet. I think a lot of people are probably feeling that this is turned into something that it really shouldn't. We're forgetting that there's a victim here, there's a family here, there's so much chaos around the courthouse, online, everywhere, it's just, it's a little disappointing where the case has gone. Yeah, it's a circus. Yeah. And it's, you know, that's not what it's supposed to be about. And I understand everybody has a right to feel the way they want about the case. People feel very strongly to Catherine Reed's innocent, to her guilt, but I don't know that it quite has to devolve into the chaos that it has, and it's a little disappointing, I think. Were you surprised by the deadlock that early? I was not. I was not. I mean, I thought if they didn't come back quickly within, you know, the first sort of day of deliberating, that there was a good chance that they were going to be deadlocked. Because I do think that, you know, I've been thinking a lot about it over the weekend, and what are the jurors hung up on? And I think really the argument is there's probably going to be maybe a couple of jurors that don't believe that she couldn't have hit him. It's really comes down to you either believe he could have been hit by the vehicle, or he wasn't hit by the vehicle. And if you believe he could have been hit by the vehicle, I think those people are probably pretty, you know, hardened in their decision to vote one way versus the other. And I don't know how you, right? I don't, I don't see them. I'm changing their viewpoint. And then this Tui Rodriguez rule, can you explain that? Yes. It doesn't seem like it would be that impactful given what we just said. So I'm going to, I'm actually going to do a post on it today and read the instruction for everybody so that everybody can kind of understand what it is. So what happened last week is after they came back a deadlock and she said, go back. We haven't quite gotten to the point. Tui Rodriguez, the case law says that's the absolute last resort. So the judge sent them back. I expect they'll probably, if they don't come back with a verdict today, they'll come back and say, we're in an impasse. Well, the Tui Rodriguez instructions basically says this, listen, you are the 12 jurors who have all the evidence is nobody at another trial in another place and another time that's going to be in a better position. Go back there, listen to the other person's perspective. You know, looking where to yourself, are you being unreasonable? Is the other person being unreasonable? Basically what the, what the instruction says is, hey, go back and think about what the other position is and is there anywhere that you could change are the things that you aren't evaluating, you need to reevaluate and really try your very best to come to a decision because you, you are the best people to do it. Is a mistrial sort of a win for the, for the defense in a way? We were talking about this often. Yeah. In a way. Because in a way, you know, he was arguing that he wanted this Rodriguez thing read on Friday and Lally was saying, no, no, no, we need to wait. Right. But you know, it's, and it's interesting because I think the general consensus is that probably the holds out holdouts are probably for guilty. There's probably more from knockies, but you don't know that, but you don't know. And that's what I always stress with the Jerry trial is you never know. It could be 10 guilty and two not guilty. We don't, we don't know that a mistrial is, it's really never a win for the defense because you really, no matter what, even though it's a, it's not a guilty, you have to do the whole thing over again, which is stressful, it's, you know, takes a lot of time, takes a lot of effort, takes a lot of money, but it's kind of, it's really not a win for you to decide because it's a loss that the Commonwealth doesn't get there when and it's a loss that the, well, why did you Nettie argue to do it so fast? I think from his perspective, what he was arguing is that, so because they came back with one question and one question only, and that was very early on, that was about the cert team report. And so obviously that, I think that's the issue is that, you know, the, what was found in the snow on January 29th is obviously a dispute in the jury about, you know, you, you kind of have to believe either it's planted or it's not. So if you don't believe it's planted, the jurors is probably saying, well, we added it come from and we as the explanation for that other than she hit him. And so what you Nettie was saying, I believe is that then they have all the evidence. They're not asking any of the questions. This is probably the one issue that they are hung up on. They've been hung up on it for three days. So just give to me now and let's get it on with it. But, you know, the, you know, the case lots and the report is also the instructions do say you have to give them a little push before you give them the, actually read it to them. A couple of people suggested to me over the weekend that one or two of the jurors could be planted. Like how easy would it be for somebody to cheat their way through the jury selection questionnaire? I mean, pretty difficult. You have the defense team who I'm sure both sides, you know, got the copies of their records. There was, you know, an extensive jury selection process. I mean, if I'm being totally honest, I have heard that and I think it's people going too far down the rabbit hole. I think it's that's an, that's an easy way to say, oh, there must be somebody planted on the jury as opposed to somebody just having a difference of opinion. Right. Do you think that we don't know, but if they're hung up, say that it's tended to saying that she's guilty, not guilty. Do you think it's on a lesser charge of manslaughter? Do you think it would be on the murder to charge? No, I don't think it's on the murder. So I think it's on one of the lesser includeds and who knows which one because they all really have the same sort of elements. I mean, there's a little bit more obviously the vehicle, manslaughter while operating on the influence is the highest. And then we have OUI homicide and then involuntary manslaughter, but they all tribute guilt to Karen. The second degree, I mean, again, you never know with the jury, but I don't see any worlds where they could find the intent necessary to prove second degree, put yourself in Karen Reed's chair in the courthouse. When they came back deadlocked, what were her thoughts? Was she expecting that not expecting that? I would say that they were, they were expecting a knock guilty and they were expecting it quicker than possible. And I think that's, you know, not only because they did do a good job, they did an excellent job presenting their case and poking the holes and establishing what, you know, what I think is a pretty good argument for reasonable doubt. But I also think that they are, you know, the favored side publicly in this. So, you know, sometimes you get in a little bit of a bubble and you expect like, you know, if everything is you're hearing, you're innocent, you're innocent, the jury's going to come back, knock it, and then it doesn't happen. It's a little bit like bringing you back down to really. To a disappointment, you think? I mean, I would, I would think so. I mean, definitely disappoint in it to disappointment and certainly stress. Do you see them if it's a mistrial coming back and trying her again? I think it's likely and I think that they would probably just proceed on the lesser charges, the manslaughter's. I mean, again, who knows? They might not, but they'll probably talk with the family and, you know, again, there's a victim here. It's not just about, it's not just about trying the case, not trying the case. If they really believe, and I do think the Commonwealth believes that she's responsible, I think they'll probably take another shot at it. So like you said, the family, so if John's family said we're done, I don't like, I want this to be over with, please stop the madness. Would they not retry? Well, they would take it into consideration. It's not going to be, it's not ultimately going to be the only factor, but they'll definitely take it into consideration. Okay. That brings us up to topic time, which means the phones are open. The talkbacks are open just in how do they get to the talk back with their questions or comments. You have to be listening on the iHeartRadio app to kiss 108 and it's a little red microphone. It's called a talkback. And you can also call us as always 617-931-1108 topic time. Karen Reed up next. 108. What is the topic? Today we're going to be talking about Billy and Lisa present topic time. Talk amongst yourself topic time. Yeah, it's topic time and it is Karen Reed. By the way, FYI, the Karen Reed story, the lead story on Good Morning America, this morning. I mean, the US on high terror alert, the presidential situation, all the things, the hurricane bearing down on the Caribbean, all of these major stories in the Karen Reed story is the lead story. So we've got Catherine Loftus, who has been and continues to be our legal expert on the Karen Reed cases. The jury said they were deadlocked on Friday. They were ordered back to deliberations, which begin at nine o'clock this morning. We'll see how that goes. But in the meantime, it's time for topic time. So Justin, you have talkbacks in there? Yes, the questions are coming in. If you have a question or comment for Catherine, you got to be listening on the iHeart app to kiss 108. Tap the red microphone. That is a talkback, essentially a message that I will then play on the radio. Catherine, I was wondering, I heard over the weekend that there was a retired Western police officer on the jury. Have you heard that? And if that's the case, that does not seem to be a fair jury. I can't imagine the defense would let that through. Wow. I would have a hard time believing that the defense did not know that the police officer was retired. You know, they go through it's very vetting process. The vetting process is very legitimate. Okay, so you have, you know, paramteries, you have all these challenges on the front end. You know, that now we're going into the jury. I think it's very dangerous for people to be really trying to find out who the jury is out, what their backgrounds are like, we want to be very careful. We want to be able to protect the jury process. That's what we have. That's the way our system is set up. And if we're, you know, trying to dive in, who's there? So who's the holdout? And if there's somebody who's a police officer, you know, then they made it to the jury. That means they made it through the judge. They made it through the Commonwealth and they made it through the defense. So I would say, which is still a little strange to me. If they did, in fact, make it through and they are in fact, a retired police officer, because there is a, I mean, a lot of the suggestion in this case has been the police and the handling of the case. So right, but you want people, the whole point of a jury is to have people from different backgrounds, different perspectives. You know, there's, you know, there's always the argument against it. Obviously, as a defense attorney, you don't want a police officer on, but the Commonwealth does, but it goes the same way the Commonwealth probably doesn't want people who are a little bit less, you know, police friendly, you know, so it's, you want a mix of people. So would they let the defense let someone like that in if they were saying, okay, you could have that guy, but I want that person to be in. Right. So at the beginning, so you have challenges for cause, which means, you know, there's, there's other reasons and then there's peremptory. So, you know, if they decided not to use the peremptory on that, a juror, then the jurist gets in. You got another one, Justin. My question is this, why did the judge appoint the foreman before we even knew if he was going to picked out of the so-called raffle? That's very disturbing, I think. It's not disturbing. From my perspective, the judge has a discretion. You can either randomly pick, you can assign a full person. It's within the rules. And so generally, I know we talked a little bit about this last week, but generally judges when they pick a full person, they try to pick somebody who looks like they can manage the jury, you know, is going to be someone who's been paying attention, taking notes. You know, I mean, ultimately, the full person doesn't have any more, like legitimate control. They're just just a person who speaks to the judge, right? So they don't have any more say than anybody else. If it's a mistrial, we were talking about this off the air, would it be the same judge that would hear the case again? So she's, she took the case, took jurisdiction over the case last fall. So she would probably stay on it. It doesn't mean she has to. But I think likely she would keep it. All right, let's go to the phones and Kathy, you're up first. You have a comment or a question. Kathy. Hi. Yeah. Hi, sorry. Yep. What did Karen redo for a living and who is financing all of her court her stays in the seaport? Like, who's paying for all of this? From my understanding this, there was some money put up from her family, from her dad. I don't know the specifics of that. There's been a pretty significant go find me in which people have donated. You know, I don't know about any deals with books or movies or anything like that that might be contributed. But I mean, it's pretty, there's got to be a pretty hefty bill. So I think it's a little bit of sourcing from different. Could it be in the millions? I think so. I think. Oh, I have a question since we're here. And I want to preface this for anything that I have been very loud over here for months saying that you cannot commit care of murdering John O'Keefe. But if you're going through this and you have to spend a lot of money on Jackson and Unetty and all the, the, the, you know, everything through the court case. Why when you own a home in Mansfield and your parents have a home here? Why are you staying in a hotel every night? Why, like, why, Unetty, he lives here? Why is he not going home? And I understand Jackson and little or not from here. So they have to stay somewhere. But why are the, why are they all staying in the same hotel? I don't, I don't get that. I mean, I think the argument is that so they can prep, you know, put in, you know, what's going to go on the next day, you know, who they're all together. The three attorneys can read. It's, it is a lot. It's unusual to, especially when you're, you know, where it's not like everybody is not from here. So they have to stay in a hotel. It is a little bit unusual to be basically like hunker down for two and a half months together. It's a very public hotel. I mean, you know, right. But I do understand the, you know, they need the ability probably every night to go, you know, they're prepping every single night. But why not stay in, in Mansfield or her house or why not get an Airbnb? Why not rent an Airbnb in Dedham or Braintree or like, why are you with the seaport on me? Again, you can go to eat, you can do all these things, but it's just way more expensive to go out to eat in the seaport than if you went to like the cheesecake factory of the Braintree mall. Like, you know what I mean? That's a good question. Maybe after this, somebody can ask her. Talk back, Justin. Go ahead. Hey guys, question for Catherine. So if they come back and they say she's guilty of one or all or any of the charges, what happens immediately? She'll get put in cuffs and taken away or just should go home and then come back for sentencing. So normally a defendant would get taken right into custody. They can ask. I mean, I don't, I hate to say she's not the normal defendant, but she's not the normal defendant. She doesn't have a criminal record. You know, she's likely not to flee if they put over sentence in for two weeks. So sometimes the judge will allow you, you know, if you found guilty and you definitely get, you know, if she was found guilty on the vehicle, on the main sort of wall, you know, that's a minimum mandatory of five years. So she'd be going in. The judge could say, okay, you have two weeks to kind of get everything in order. And on this date, you're going to surrender yourself and come back in. So it's really up to the discretion of the judge. We said a good question when we had Steve Cooper on earlier, we didn't get a chance to ask about the Netflix camera that's there. Well, I wanted to ask him because he's been standing outside with the Netflix crew to give us any sort of insight into when we could see this on Netflix. I would bet they would, my guess is going to rush it all because, you know, this, it seems to be the way they're doing it with documentaries these days is that like we get the actual case. And then, you know, look how quickly we quickly, we got the Murdoch documentary, like within a couple of months of it. So I do think we're going to have like this mad rush of documentaries from, you know, maybe one to whoever they come through. But I would bet it would be sooner than later. All right, talk back to you, Doug. Justin, who's next? So this is less about the jury being deadlock, but I've been curious and wanted to ask as to what your opinion is as to what the relationship of John O'Kee and Karen Reed was compared with everyone in the house that night. I'm just curious because it seems like, you know, everyone's thought is that they're all sticking together, but I was just curious as to before were they all pretty close or were Karen and John not so much? So from what the testimony that came out is that they were there was Jen McCabe and Matt McCabe knew John pretty well from when Jen knew his niece when his sister was alive. So I mean, that was more of a longstanding friendship in that they sort of peripherally knew, you know, Brian now, but Nicole, but mostly from, you know, having mutual friends through the McCabe. So it seems like there was, you know, it's kind of more of acquaintances for most of the people in the house, aside from Jen and Matt, you know, and the relationship with Karen and John, I think is, listen, I think their relationship itself is not that strange to most people is that you present one thing on the outside and it's very different on the inside and everybody has issues and problems. And that can go both ways that, you know, it leads you towards one path about, you know, that they were on the way to breaking up or that they were, you know, just a normal agent, Jen and Karen were together that night, right? Yes, they were all at the waterfall. Yeah, Jen testified against her. Yes. So Jen, so I mean, I wouldn't say against her. She testified for the Commonwealth. She's a witness because she was anybody who was there that night is considered a witness, you know, and it was interesting that most of the witness testimony that came out said, you know, we really liked Karen. They we thought they had a good relationship thought she was good for John for the kids, but obviously they have a different perspective on what happened that night. Well, we're talking about Jim McCabe. And so for closing arguments, Jen McCabe, Colin Albert and Brian Albert, who were heavily disliked by anyone that's pro Karen read and you can argue against how they're not the best best witnesses, but they were there for the closing arguments. And then they disappeared. Was there some type of like strategy there with the prosecution that, Oh, John's feeling likes likes them? That's why they're here because then they all done on the hill that Colin Albert was some neighborhood kid that would never be at a closing argument. You can say maybe Jen was a close friend or whatever, but there will be no reason for them to be there other than if there was some maybe a strategy behind it. I don't think it's from the Commonwealth. I think it was from the family that that's my that's the gist of kind of what I'm getting. I think that, you know, and I think it's hard because there's two kind of perspectives is that, you know, why why are these people here? They're the subject to all this. On the other hand, the O'Keeves believe they have nothing to do with it. And I think it was from their perspective, sort of a show of, hey, we don't believe what the defense is saying of solidarity that these people are with us. We know that they didn't do anything. I don't need some random 20 old kid in my box. You know, I mean, I think from the O'Keeves perspective, like you call it out, but his name wasn't even mentioned in the closing argument. And basically, I mean, the kids life has been ruined. So, you know, I think this is always two different sides of the story. I guess I'm a pastor. That's when it comes to that stuff. Let's go to the phones against Steve. You're up next. Hello, Steve. Hi there. I just had a quick question. How long will the judge go before she let's call them this trial? I think probably if they come back today with either they come back today with a verdict or they're still stuck, they'll get red Tui Rodriguez. And then it'll probably be tomorrow, Wednesday morning at the latest. So you think before July 4th, because I don't think she's, if they're stuck and they've been stuck since last week, she's not going to make them come back after the long weekend. Oh, my God. So, jury back at nine this morning and we'll see whether or not we get a verdict or we get a deadlock situation. But Katherine, as always, thanks for coming in early on a Monday morning, the first of July. And yeah, the Karen reached. Did I mention top story on Good Morning America on ABC?
