you're listening to the bonsai beat your weekly window into the world of anime featuring all the latest news episode reviews and discussion and now broadcasting live from an abandoned love hotel your hosts Pat's and Jellicoon welcome to episode 21 of the bonsai beat this Jellicoon welcoming you as always my two right-hand men AC Storm Angel and Pat's you're just a lowly brigman you gotta go swap the deck of this mighty ship man I'm the brains everyone knows that yeah yeah I'm the brains are the um I'm the edge yes the brawn I guess yes okay we bring you news a plenty comic con what's held this weekend so we've got actually quite a bit of manga news compared to anime we also have our yeah DVD picks of the week as always and yeah it's really about it I was thinking of maybe doing a review but we've had so many damn problems getting this podcast going tonight we're gonna forego it and maybe next week yeah I've been having some technical difficulties with basically on everyone's end with the mics yeah so my my your phone and with please so if there's any more technical difficulties please just regard them we are working yeah we're working to fix them sometimes it's not always easy yeah doing everything across Skype does not make things easy compared to a lot of podcasts they do everything in one room we're varied and cultured we have come some guy in California in Minnesota and Virginia what Virginia that's it yeah we got both coasts and some in one of those places that doesn't matter yes that place thanks to Canada we're Canada's penis makes sense anyway anyway it's not even palette-shaped it could be it's not anyway let's just jump right into the news Funimation offers sub downloads of Jio-O-Sci it probably butch that horribly North American distribution Funimation has posted downloads for all 11 English sub-tunneled episodes of Johnny O-Sci a science fiction adventure anime series which is an adaptation of Natsumi Itsuki's manga yay like any other anime doesn't come from anything else be original the series about two twin brothers must fend for themselves when they are deposited and an untamed planet after witnessing their parents death this is one of those titles that they yeah they announced it a year ago and it just kind of sat there for a long time makes me wonder the heck's going on with it because it still doesn't have it's online now all of its subtitle but they don't have any details on when the DVDs will come out I don't know if a picture they got here looks like a gay Conan yes each episode cost $1.99 or you can get the entire series for $16.99 just if you're curious a couple other English sub titled series Funimation offers for download are black blood brothers rumbling hearts kiminoza shuffle 22 blood and which blade and I honestly don't understand why the hell they offer them English sub are dubbed now for most of them dub - okay I was gonna be like rumbling hearts have been dubbed shuffle Trinity blood which played blackboard brothers all dubbed yeah they are whatever okay well moving on that much really excitement all right um another fun to me another little chunk from Funimation was they announced on Monday that they've licensed buccano I think I pronounce that right I'm not a hundred percent sure though it's um it's a it's 13 episodes series that um the weird thing about this one though is that they've decided for some reason they're streaming the first episode of the series online sub titled right now you can go to um Funimation.com/baccano and I believe you have to enter a password to see it but it's like yeah you have to enter a password which is um Oh flying pussyfoot which is the name of the train series uh-huh and you can watch the first episode of the series for free subtitle and there you go it's pretty cool all right Funimation just keeps announcing more and more shit it makes me don't know wonder what kind of release schedule they're gonna have with this much shit okay do you do any of the links I see for news do any links of the news or no okay watching next one then was there any words we said about the whole Funimation thing or can I continue okay good job nothing some good news for cowboy bebop fans Fox has announced that they're in the very early stages of a live-action cowboy bebop film of course called a bebop follows a renegade crew of the starship bebop they've also had a movie that also premiered in the States back in 2001 and I know I can't believe it it feels like yesterday but yeah it's in the very early stages right now of doing anything but they did have a couple uh I don't anime I don't know anybody uh anime news network had a couple photos of a couple of the actors or the one actor who plays Faye they haven't cast anyone oh there must been a cosplay then okay my apology no nothing's been cast they don't even have a script it's basically they just signed for the rights a day or two ago oh I'm not gonna say it for the right that's a miss okay my fault um it's got a big producer who the guy who produced the Matrix or when stuff he produced the Matrix and he produced a skin or darkly I don't know if either of you have seen that oh it's such a weird just the style of it's hard to follow and just the style of it the way it's done it's got this weird motion capture animation look to it it's really cool but it takes a minute to get used to because it's kind of weird but the way I see it is this is probably one of those things that could actually work too because well I could see it like they could either fuck it up and not be true to the story which I really doubt they do or they would try way too damn hard and it would be like terrible I don't know I basically the way you see it it could be really bad or really bad I guess I mean I'm hoping it's good but like how do you come up with something original that it isn't done like who wants to go watch a live-action version of anime that's been out for years that now a lot of people probably know pretty damn good like the back of their hand although if they did the the mushroom dance episode in real life that'd be funny as fuck well the thing is well I don't the thing is it's kind of like you're overestimating it's it's popularity that's part of it and then the other because it's really one of those things if they make it cool looking and promote it well enough it won't matter that they're really just there it's really they're signing the rights to a concept and a name and that's about it I mean they're not they're not licensing it for its popularity they're licensing it for its ideas god surely is where when I'm getting it I'm open they come with something original or something neat based on those characters but I mean I guess you could say the same thing about the death note live action yeah they just took the main I mean they just took the anime and then just did like scene for scene yeah and it turned out really good be honest and then their work supposedly they're working on an American version of death now it's based in New York City yes we had that as one of our stories and I think the first three or four episodes of this show quite a while both February March they really they noticed that they were making an American version yeah time flies when you're having fun sure why not yes so cross my fingers hope it comes out good yeah or if it ever comes out at all for that matter yeah no kidding snow guarantees that's very true I mean there's people keep saying that they're working on stuff like he-man you don't see he-man never come out do you like live action he-man that'd be sweet but instead of a good power it's just gonna electrocute and die like oh we've already made a dozen times stop raising your damn door during thunderstorms the Ed right anyway Van I entertainment license has announced a license for the lucky star manga which I am disappointed by and that's because if they licensed it a couple months ago before the anime started coming out they could have bundled it like bundled it with the special editions like they've done with the special editions of um Eureka seven and they're doing they're going to do with code gas yeah it's like oh well yeah only two volumes if they did bundle it yeah yeah I am saying that all that's on you know no no I'm saying because there's only been two DVD release yeah yeah that's true that's true now I wonder like I don't see them adding it to the later ones though is the thing they might but I don't count on it now I mean I don't know how big of a lucky star of banana qr how cool yeah compare actually some of the manga before and a lot of it is fair it the anime is very very close from what I've seen oh okay that's I was gonna ask us how close are they following it in the or they make me not rush out to get it let's put it that way it's also it's also it's also it's a lot like how I don't know if either of you have ever watched and read as a manga dio yeah I've only watched they're very very close yeah yeah it's a lot like that you know lucky star is another 4 coma so it's those four panel stuff gotcha but yeah it's I mean it's one I'll definitely I'll probably end up picking it up at some point but I'm not gonna be in any I want to bring that I want them to bring some of the games out to America I mean I know they wouldn't sell but damn you know how fun would that be at least band I mean fuck Dave released they released 90 million Dragon Ball Z games a year yeah and they all sell yeah that's the thing they're good and they're good you can't don't tell me they're crappy games because they're not or well most of them are like the newest ones pretty good burst limit I don't know I like it at least I'll be dissing don't be hating on the Dragon Ball Z I hate on what I want which come over my house and tell me not to hate on stuff yeah maybe our recordings would sound better again or whatever whatever it is we're gonna go to California and go hassle I used to storm earthquakes wildfires earthquakes live in wild fires yeah in Hollywood won't show up and they're like oh fuck Midwesterner in the car from Virginia earthquake I don't know I don't know just trying to think of a nice doom scenario yeah we just land the plane I don't think that's very likely anyway I was in Virginia get our mind can you get what hail storms hurricanes or something we usually get like the last chunk of the hurricane like they make it up there we get like a day of crap really really shitty storms like a couple times they've come in they've come in hit land close to us and it's done shit like there's an area in this city in Richmond that it's basic it's below sea level and it's essentially a giant super yeah like like New Orleans essentially a smaller like gee I mean and it's people that it gas is near floodings it's like gas when you build a bowl low sea level and it floods with a ton of rain can you believe it but whole plus for the most time um what for the most part we only just get like a storm once in a while we don't get much of the bad shit yeah basically just like if you can if you can hear that I'm sorry my window is closed too oh good you don't hear sirens like crazy okay I don't always anyway moving on this announced a whole mess of shit at comic-con so run through everything they announced they announced something called whack whack I think that's how it's pronounced WA Q WA Q walk-a-walk on I think that's the way and I actually show that one is about um whack whack or whatever and then they announced um tigami bachi on letter B which is about a boy who task he's a courier that delivers messages to different areas of land in a perpetual night basically and that's going to be that's going to end up in shown and jump and it's going to be replacing slam dunk which is cool because that means slam dunk will be released faster because anything that's in shown and jump anything that's in shown and jump gets its volumes really slowly everything else gets released to month every two months so it kind of sucks ass for anything that's in shown and jump and then they announced two really cool ones or actually a couple really cool ones um they announced 20th century boys and Pluto from Naoki or Asawa same mangaka is monster and master Keaton in Yohara and they're both really popular series that are gonna start coming out and I think it's February by monthly Pluto is the one that I'm really excited about because that one is just it's I've read some of it before and it's this weird re imagining of a big story arc from Astro boy and it's it's really really cool I've only I read like the first two volumes of it I think it's very it's just really neat basically there's a good word for it and then what else they announced um what is it Shiro Miwa's dogs which is really cool and ikigami and it's a whole mess among the like this dogs is really cool that's one that I've actually been looking forward to see get licensed sometime soon because that's really why it's this really weird futuristic it's kind of hard to describe even and it's got this really really cool art style and I love it I can't even describe it I'm kind of annoying myself by him talking about it but it's a whole mess of good shit from them and a whole mess of more shit than I'm gonna have to buy well these two sit there quietly and have nothing to say about any of them apparently I've never heard of any of them so well yeah a lot of them are really like high profile I think would be a good way to put it at least 20th century boys and Pluto are to say the least interesting name shoot I am a lot there anyway and the last get this last bit out of the way and that's dark horse is licensed world embryo which is a new series from the creator of Chrono Crusade which is another one I've actually checked out already and it's it's this weird world it takes place in this world where there's these strange demons that are like infecting people and this kid gets caught in it and gains these weird powers I'm not a lot of it it takes a while to really follow exactly what's going on but it's actually pretty darn cool and if you liked Chrono Crusade you'll like it I can say the least and that's all my manga talk like oh there's all these anime people no one reads anything and you sound horrible and we can barely understand you so yeah moving on don't talk anymore for the love of God yeah at least I know what I'm talking about whoa we're not gonna understand you we're gonna do dark horse ads dice K more you mama more yama's world embryo manga Wow I must sound really bad you just talked about it yeah either I sound so bad you can't understand a word I said or you just aren't paying attention I know it was really bad I apologize I'm gonna go back and listen to it and actually see how bad it actually is oh you'll be surprised yeah you've been sucked for a while anyway if you want to oh I think she took all four of them okay I'm okay that looks like it said sit for the news was anything else you want to add pets not for the news or anything okay um fuck let me bring up anime and DVD the horrible piss poor site that it is yeah you know what you're way over-reacting it's terrible and you know it oh no it's terrible I'm talking about we're talking I don't want I don't want to look at a a over-the-top IGN-esque type layout with the reviewing all the reviews on the front page manga death note how to read death how to read manga that's the death note how to read book whatever it's still blood plus volume two hmm these are all European reviews they've always done that they haven't yes they have our one site they've always done that they've always done it you can go back years and you'll see tons of our our three stuff on there well I know I know I know but they've always come out with our one reviews yes and now and then you know be like oh okay we're checking out the European version no they they've always done it and it's not like they do like one every once in a while they do plenty it was all just a matter of when things came out there gotcha it's not something that's different it's just what they have up at the moment I guess camera doesn't how much we can do about it anyway so well does this week's DVD reviews are for July 29 2008 and I see storm even said much so what you go ahead and start what am I starting do you do you buy something this week Mario watch is over us season one collection excellent choice it's got a very good very good you know recognition fans and whatnot I would say back the complete series in my opinion is probably one of the greatest enemies in the music genre and it's just a really fun watch the dub work is frickin phenomenal Greg Ayers as koyuki is really really well done the story is good it keeps intrigued but I mean it's nothing new but it's an interesting how a kid learns from not learning how to play guitar to learning to be in a band and the ups and downs of being in a band and whatever the else I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in rock and just a good story so back what you bats I guess if I had to choose something would probably be Maria watches over us just because there's not much that tickles my fancy this week and then that's something I actually plan on picking up at some point just not now but yeah kind of a dead week we're trying to do a short show because of all the technical problems obviously and well I just wanted to throw this out I think I forgot I'm not sure if I mentioned it last week or not but I've got I've set my plans up for Oda Khan and I'll be there all weekend so in August August on I think it's eighth ninth and ten correct so anybody up so this is Jellicoon saying keep moving the bonds I beat look forward to another episode bye! Bye!
