you're listening to the bonsai beat your weekly window into the world of anime featuring all the latest news episode reviews and discussion and now broadcasting live from an abandoned love hotel your hosts Pat's and Jellicoon welcome to episode 16 of the bonsai beat you're probably wondering what the hell where's episode 15 well we'll did that in a little while but I'm here with Pat's hi everybody and I'm Jellicoon we're back for another week of anime tastic fun and you really got to stop drawing that hey stop hating my anatastic fun yeah I'm gonna hate on it so yeah episode 15 was not released because it was just a crazy wacky episode that had like four minutes of anime in it otherwise it was just us conversing I thought it was fun but whatever so that may get released later when we're a lazy or b need filler so yeah count on that in the future I'll make it happen there you go move on you'll just raid the web server and edit it yourself and make be so embarrassed hell hell I got the I got the recordings on my laptop yeah holding a black male don't maybe press the button thing is I don't have access to the web server to relief it I probably do I just couldn't I couldn't update the RSS though so yeah there you go it's a manually do all that in you too lazy hell yeah am I too lazy hell was this mm-hmm well that the web well that in the web server that contains the RSS you don't have access to anything but one folder that doesn't even have that folder in it doesn't don't even have those yeah yes well I'm thinking here soon we're going to be switching web servers to a colo Cation Center in Chicago I picked I got four rack model servers from work for free and a buddy of mine hosts a lot of websites and that also I'm thinking of being very very nice to animate a blogger dot net and I'm going to help load balance the website because I know my stroke is hemorrhaging money to keep that site online and the servers I got our court or our dual court 2.8 2.8 gigahertz 4 gigs of RAM yeah they're really nice I don't even know why they're coming out of production but we were just gonna we were gonna recycle we were gonna recycle them and like seriously rack model servers recycling are you crazy like let me take them home I'll play on them and learn stuff off the clock then my buddy was like whoa oh we throw 2003 on there and I asked and put it up at a colo location center and I'll pay half of it with you so 125 bucks I fair and get two or three people in that's only like 30 or 40 bucks a pop if that cool yeah I mean if I could get enough in one you know what my plan is is to have everyone chip in a year's worth if possible and there you go here's a year up front don't bug us for a year but I want to host help host anime blogger dot net if you can what do we mean if I can you blow balance website so if my so if his web servers busy it seamlessly transfer over to mine the nice part of both where I'm gonna be hosting is there's unmetered bandwidth so it's not unlimited but it's unmetered but you also share that bandwidth with other people so if the sites can hammered it kind of affects everyone so I don't know either way I thought to be a nice jester because he's doing all that work for us you know he's keeping the site up mm-hmm because I mean we right now only do about 10 gigabytes a month in bandwidth in traffic not anything near to start looking for a dedicated server or anything like yeah and I was looking over the stuff and he said it was cool yeah I saw that he was doing you know 750 gigabytes of bandwidth a month yeah I know kidding makes you think like what the hell the pirate bay does and like all that shit but yeah speaking of anime blogger and stuff I mentioned Uga is finally getting a I don't know if you've noticed it yeah I was finally out of his ass and started coding again yeah well I think he said he had someone helping him out but yeah it looks really nice but yeah it's getting there he's getting um still got a little work to do on it but it's looking much nicer on a bonsai.animeblogger.ninn I mean I I really like it it's a huge step up from the last one oh definitely and actually we're starting to integrate the forums yeah I know you mentioned we're having some trouble right now but by what our end result wants to be is we want to mix kind of both communities because we're kind of feeding off each other for visitors yeah and I think it's just kind of cool to kind of take a take a blog to the next level I mean you've got blogs like that anime blog and really big ones it actually just won some awards they have the yeah what was it the first annual yeah anime blogger what sits yeah I was like the best anime blogs on the web or something yeah but but yeah I think it'll be pretty cool like he mentioned that that you're gonna try and get the forums integrated into it on top of everything else overall I think it looks it's a very nice step up definitely I just got to get my lazy ass all up and write some more stuff yeah I'm at work and you're also bored at work on you right well finally I started beginning I've finally been getting stuff to do like it was like will he last three months will he last three months oh three months has gone by okay you're in charge of this in charge of that charge of this cool yeah it's nice I can't leave three months I'm pretty gotten by you know wow I mean it was April 7th I started or March 7th I started my new job really wow it's weird I know it's crazy yeah it's March I don't know I realize I was like fuck oh well yeah but anyway back to what we were saying thumbs up to the anime bonsai indeed yeah fortunately I want any awards but hey I've noticed recently though comments have been coming in more of a thing which is nice for a while I know how that's good you get your kicks so I'm sure you're happy about it yes well no it's been nice that people have been writing stories and people are actually commenting I mean what ticked me you know I like writing story you know the stories and whatnot and you like food back yeah I want criticism or feedback or anything and I'll guess all yeah I'll say check out anime bonsai a bonsai dot enemy blogger dot net or check us out on the forums forums dot bonsai beat dot com there you can harass us and everyone else yeah everyone was all nine people so far slowly but surely oh man anyway moving on some story for the week and that's um patches wild adventures at the anime cons yeah pats is yeah did you get drunk in cosplay no I did not I'm la la vu scary most of the time it tends to be you know not really recent characters that you see seldom see the really recent stuff I mean but yeah anyway this was it's a anime mid Atlantic this weekend it's a small convention in it's not tiny but it's a smaller convention in Virginia that I think it's yeah there are four or five conventions in Virginia every year so it's kind of lucky we only get like 100 we finally just got a second one and there's you know what the great part is I work like five minutes away from both of them yeah yeah well this one used to be in downtown in Richmond Virginia downtown so ten minutes from my house they moved it to Virginia Beach this year from a long it's a long story why but but I that didn't really make me that happy because I luckily I had people I could stay with for the um weekend but still kind of annoying me that I had to drive down there for it but it was still fun I mean so how much it cost to get in it was 50 bucks for the whole weekend without pre-registering that's what I paid and I spent way too much money on crap like I always do oh great I'm gonna hear like I'm so bored spot me five dollar no I'm okay basically this was like all right this is basically it for me yeah this summer give us a rundown man what about the crapper no about the what the anime kind can you hear can you hear that fan in the background okay my conditioner yeah but it's not noticeable if you're not paying attention I'm just making sure I just want to make sure this wasn't blowing into the mic if it was I'd say something because it had noise in me wanted jobs what's that nothing so yeah tell us about the con how was it it wasn't bad it was a little overcrowded because the hotel it was in was kind of small for it it was kind of a last-minute thing it's location but I enjoyed it about as much as other years I mean it's just a fun little con I find myself if I just stick I tend to enjoy like going to panels and just watching stuff a lot more than farting around outside talking to people that's just because I'm a naturally anti-social guy or something people talk at those things I swear what always seems like you think like people go to these things are like anti-social because all you're talking about is on the internet that's that's there is that there are people that are like that most annoying thing on earth I'll tell you that oh my god girls like anime but I had something I'll tell you one thing that I enjoyed was Greg Ayers and his brother were there Greg and Chris Harris you bastard please tell me you got an autograph I didn't get an autograph yeah screw that shit cuz I would have like I didn't have any TV I didn't bring any of my stuff with me so I didn't have anything room it's do you know he was there no yeah I knew he was there I just son of a bitch I could have FedExed you my back DVD set I didn't think to get my deck thing sign I was really thinking it's cool but yeah you show make it up just some I didn't realize that Greg had been doing but for the past couple years he does this thing con to panel on fan subbing really and why it's destroying the industry okay he's like that's dad's yeah oh come on that's so easy I work for the industry I tell you what he does the whole thing he doesn't make any money off of doing it does it all pro bono he does he's been doing research on it for years and he's not talking about he's not talking about destroying the industry in America he's talking about destroying the anime industry as a whole cuz it's cuz the failing of the industry here hurts the industry in Japan on top of everything else because they make a lot of money off of what they make from the licensing and stuff anyway what's not discussed anyway talk about that another time but yes those guys were really cool and then I went to Funimation is always there because one of the guys from works for Funimation is like from this area or something so he knows a lot of the people from it I know you Johnny Young Bosch come over here but it was he talked about Shiguru which is one of their newer shows that they have coming out like this ultra violent samurai show oh excuse me but anyway he revealed this apparently this is something he hasn't told him and hadn't been announced anywhere else but yeah basically said that um Shiguru is gonna get a Blu-ray release so it's oh that's not serious it's gonna be getting a Blu-ray release they have an anime on DVD yeah yeah they had it from anime mid-Atlantic oh cool but yeah it's like that's pretty darn cool and that's some I really want to pick up that I buy almost everything they frickin release anyway now that's not gonna be dubbed correct I was gonna be dubbed Funimation releases everything but too much of a pansy to try doing it the wrong way you make kind of a point I'm mentioning it they're like the release sub stuff online early their website or they sell stuff something like that but they but they're all their DVDs are dubbed they don't do the whole sub only DVD thing mmm we're better than a TV and better yet we're better than Jenny on her band-eye band-eye does some media blasters does - hmm I know you go watch my my kitty anti I will be right back your sub only go on login DVDs hey it's up hate no those really hating on them I'm just waiting for the double ones to buy it but anyway that was fun and then I'm really doing a ton more just goof off really but one other thing I went to was somewhere I decided to nerd it up and that was I can't remember his name Steve you and I think it is he works for Harmony Gold okay I've never heard of Harmony Gold Harmony Gold makes me a robot tech and they're still around interested we're using a robot tech basically like you know we just did a panel and it was a sense it was called the giant robot rumble which was essentially a group of people nerding it up debating in like a tournament format what robots would be which robots mmm fuck you uh like Gundam that Gundam did not win like mmm if I don't know pull me to panic in the arbor list well the final it was the RX-78 from Gundam vs Optimus Prime no a arbor list would kill Optimus Prime nothing can take Optimus Prime except Megatron you know what you know what better Garfield ultra mega Godzilla Garfield um Robotech guy version 0.2 good oh just just give it up but yeah that was fun just cuz I was like hey I'm not the nerdiest guy in the room here where's me of the GTO in the Gundam freak so that was hilarious and it all comes back around to GTO but yeah it was fun it's a small convention I'm probably gonna go to so I'm interested in the region this year I'll probably go to Katzou Khan and Neko Khan like what the hell that just sounds wrong Neko Khan is in November I believe and then Katzou Khan is in February and there's Anime USA which is the other one around here that's in November I think but I'm probably gonna skip that one no that one's in October anime USA is in October Neko Khan's in November and then Katzou Khan is in February and then I'm on the fence I might go to Otter Khan I haven't really decided yet yeah unfortunately me and me and Patz we're gonna go to Otter Khan together and then do to some outside unforeseen circumstances in my part I and and I had to cancel that plan but it's so we were yeah there's always some other cons it would have been my first con and I thought it was really cool to go in broadcast from there hopefully by this time next year though we can get press passes or something like that to just have some credibility yeah that would be fun but yeah I mean I enjoy them my biggest problem with going to these things is I kind of let go of my um wallet yeah it's like I completely drop my um what's the word I'm gonna whore common sense con no that's not the right word yeah you're an ambition my inhibitions my my restraint and that's what I decided to do here and I just kind of spent some money so I could just see you now such a park video oh my god they might have boost and Rinko or some other pilot crap I've never heard of oh my god what did I get I got a couple gun to models basically that's cool and a couple gun to models and this one place had some older manga on clearance it was ten volumes for 40 bucks so anything good though yeah I got some stuff I needed I got um a couple of volume volumes of yachtsuba what else did I get I can't really remember the but the bag is like on the other side of my room right now so I can't go out biggie it's like I got some stuff I wanted so it's not like it's cool the stuff I actually wanted yeah I gotta call I gotta call yesterday from borders books and shows we've got your special order in I'm like what I didn't order anything who is this oh this borders books okay I didn't order anything Sun Dome oh yeah so I'm gonna go pick up Sun Dome tomorrow and have a that's one I that's one I forgot to friggin look for while I was there like a completely slipped my mind that's I had something I plan to look for but oh well I'll find some other time we reading on the back of the bus although there's a bit this uh this volume doesn't sound as much over the top of the first maybe hopefully make maybe I can read it in public without having to be changed so I yes I'm interested in hearing more about Greg Ayers and the whole panel I'm interested does you mind running it down like oh I know to the best of mine all his my space page I know he posts like in like his panel on it are up on YouTube and stuff like that oh really can look into it like Greg Ayers okay I'm a search for Greg Ayers fans something or something like okay yeah we'll add that in the show notes yeah but it's like yeah his his whole viewpoint is just that there's just a lot of leeching and it's essentially what it's starting to turn into is the anime industry specifically mainly in the US when you'll get look at you can look at it in this way anime industry in the US was built by fans essentially mm-hmm and it's those same fans that are going to destroy it because of all the people who same so-called fans that are going to destroy it I'm gonna piss people off but no okay I'll let you finish what you had to say I'll make I'll just put my two cents in it's like fun it's just that there's just people out there who just aren't spending money on it's an it's a form of media it's there's lots of companies that spend a lot of money on this stuff and it's just sad that there's so many people out there that act like they're entitled to it for free it things don't work that way and it's you're complaining about how there's less and less original stuff coming out these days that's because that's companies catering to what they know will make money so yeah I think of things that way okay my whole point okay I agree with you on that point I mean I have my fair share of you'll gotten and I watch fans all admit I mean oh no yeah exactly I mean most of the stuff I watch it's huge it tends to be a lot of a lot of the stuff I stuff I keep let's put it that way the stuff I don't delete it's all old stuff that I just can't get a hold of even if I in the US you know never be able to but a lot of this and I'll admit I watch stuff that broadcasts that's just airing currently in Japan but that's because that's only way I can watch it but 90% of the time I I'm one of those guys I'm insane and I'm probably gonna drive myself into see what here's the thing so here's oh no yeah here's the thing though currently right now you have throw away money I do I'll admit that and I and right now you're living with your folks and no offense not just criticizing your lifestyle but someone for me yes but you buy what you can yes exactly you buy what you can you bought you bought point you buy plenty of stuff you have a reasonable collection of DVDs yes exactly my whole thing though is here's the way I look at though anime is 30 bucks a disc for the most part never never let me finish I let you talk let me finish all right I let you say your piece I like you I shut up anyway they've gotten better they're another starter release box sets or full season discs you know over 30 $40 understand that and I got to agree with you on the point of people think they're entitled to it and I got the same thing the RIA the MPA the same thing is for act practically anything yeah today distribution has gotten so easy because of the torrent yeah I mean I you personally I use news groups yeah that's all just the fact that an average person has high-speed internet yeah if my mom was like oh yeah I got the entire season of weeds how'd you get that I found bit torrents I'm like oh god there's 40 to four but um you know that's all he's gotten but I mean I don't know who to really blame I mean I can blame everyone for bleaching this stuff but can you blame them it's so readily available it's not like South Park we're like so just are busting through the windows with guns going oh here's a thing I'm a I think the entire back catalog of South Park is on the internet now on the south it is on the official website oh yeah yeah yeah exactly like it is that's officially available online for free but yeah I understand what you're saying because like I've used I've used fan downloading like health and lead for example I found the first disc on a news group I leached it I watched it I grabbed my jacket my wallet back when I could throw all my money a little bit and I went and bought the box set now I think I've done that for everything but typically I've bought like um like Brooks basket I really liked I haven't bought it yet but I plan on buying it carcano I borrowed that from a friend really liked it haven't bought it yet and I don't really know what to really say I only spoke part of the past it's one of those things I think it's just happening too many and people don't want to just succumb to that $30 especially I'm not gonna say I'm not gonna blame the market or the economy right now because anime is really niche but I also gotta say - that's why it's so important no no here's a thing though I think here's a thing though and adult swim anime is exploding a popularity because the Cartoon Network probably because the sci-fi was really it's done it's done already I wouldn't say it's exploding anymore or did I miss the or was it just so short lived I just wouldn't call it exploding okay okay anime is getting new fans due to adult swim things like death note Naruto bleach when I mean I found a freaking a bleach poster at Walmart yeah yeah yeah those are popular with certain crowds but the thing is even the believe Naruto especially that's a that's a horrible case study right there just in the amount of downloads so that's so they're around there so but but I want to say I want to say though where does the blame when it's really blame where's the responsibility come from the distribute the menu the anime producers now I gotta say it's a lot of work - yeah exactly that stuff that that but I also want to say though in the last nine months they've done a 360 on the whole digital distribution like nine months ago everyone was playing they were playing the blame game one of the guys that the panel had an interesting point about that and it was a lot of the Japanese skies at the Japanese companies they really associate the internet and downloads with a big chunk of why they're not making nearly as much money as they used to it's just a bigger problem in Japan if not bigger but and it's like it took them a lot of work to say hey we got the show we want to go put it on the internet for people to buy it took a lot of work for there to convince them that that was okay because of their stigma against it but I mean I get what you're saying I mean I don't know why I'm just because I'm thinking about what I do I mean help there's probably 50 or 60 of us more you know I visit us more but I can understand the company's point hey we want to make you pay five dollars an episode well scratch that out oh I get it for free okay there's 60 of us I get it for free well 60 times five I want you wanted they just lose I don't know it's just so hard to explain like I grew up my last five six years I don't know I just it's weird because it's like we've grown up around it now and it's like socially like everyone knows it's but everyone does it circles yeah it's like it kind of honestly a lot of times I have friends that only download things and honestly I want to just say to them I don't really value your opinion I want to actually sometimes I actually think that to myself because I just don't take them seriously for that one reason not to be a jerk or anything no yeah I honestly I bite my tongue a lot when it comes to that kind of thing but it's like I kind of lost all my point was now yeah what was I gonna say yeah I recognize that it's socially acceptable in some circles but they were mentioning this it's like they have a couple options they can take the aggressive Metallica like route towards it and say everyone's gonna alienate everyone and make everyone hate them where they can take MPA yeah or they can take a more proactive approach where they just make everyone aware of what they're doing you know and just leave it to the fans to recognize that what they're doing isn't been official to the community see I don't think that's the industry I don't think that's true what fans something's been around for ages yeah fans up it's been around for ages and it's never made the company's money so I know but look at some of the people though I've heard stories of fan suburbs getting frickin legal jobs working for these companies that's so seldom that's so rare that's true too first off it's like this it's such a small business it's almost like first off you have to live in the cities that they do this stuff and it's like yeah live in Texas over to Texas and I want to move like this that's where ADV and Funimation are there in Texas that's why they share so many that's why you see so many of the same voice actors show up in their shows because they're there they're so it's not an easy business to make a living off of and you need to be ready for a lot of work so they have like basically a pool of people that only that they basically only use mm-hmm like Gargares in the in such and Johnny young boss who pops up in almost everything but yeah that's my whole point and it's it's just I mean I understand your point fans up have been around forever but that's not my point though my whole thing is I don't think there's an answer I can give that was satisfied no me as like what personally I will continue to download fan subs I do not know Japanese and who the hell is gonna watch you know I don't know you know what I mean like they came out with the DVDs like okay for example school days I loved everyone knows that I've been listening to the show if they came out with a DVD in America I would buy that in a heartbeat because I hey I saw that I want to watch it again yeah I thought there I like I will buy on DVD or at least tempted by them I see that's how you are with it that's how I am with it the problem is is the people not everybody doesn't do that to the people who I've already got it downloaded I don't need to buy that kind of sentiment it's like Sam I see I don't want to alienate people but no I mean I recognize I'm a I'm a fairly special situation I I mean I work a lot and I live in homes so I don't have to pay rent or anything right now so I'm capable of buying a reasonable amount of stuff but it doesn't change just that hold on a second hold on a second you you (crickets chirping) (crickets chirping) (humming) (humming) She's fine. Sorry, my girlfriend accidentally ran over the cat's tail or something. The cat, like, booked out of here, like, double time. Oh, cool. Anyway. No, I just want to restate this one thing. I admit, wholeheartedly, I download fan subs. I download a recent-- I download a reasonable amount of fan subs. I'm mad at all this out, so the FBI does a show up at our door. We're sensitive to ourselves, but we download fan. Yeah, I hear you. I do too. That's the only way I watch. I mean, that's the only way I have the ability to, but at the same time, most 90% of the time, if it's not my enjoy and it finally comes out in America, I buy it, especially with newer stuff. I mean, I buy a lot of newer stuff. I mean, there's just random shit that, I mean, there's sometimes shows that I'm not even with that big a fan of. I buy them anyway, just because that helps fund these companies, and that helps keep them going and keeps them releasing more stuff over here for me to buy. You know, 'cause it's like, I don't know anymore. I mean, I'm like a sad-- I'm not saying that to somebody off already. For all you who haven't turned me off, thank you. Yes. I don't know. I just want to give an answer. We can give that satisfies everyone. This is something we don't revisit. This is something, yeah. And this is something that affects not just anime. It's affecting everyone, apparently. It is, yes. It's affecting everyone. But I find it harder to believe, though, for, like, the MPAA and the RIAA, like, Hollywood-made record profits last year. But yet they're like, "Oh, piracy, yes." Here's the thing. It affects everyone, but anime is such a small niche. I'm going to say 90% of the fans are younger and are really aware of the internet and what they can do. It's such a small niche that it hurts it a lot, unlike something like Hollywood Blockbusters, where, yeah, it hurts it, but they're not going to die over it. Yeah, people downloaded Iron Man, but it's still made-- Yeah, multi-million dollars. Still was one of the biggest hits ever. So that's my idea. I wonder how, like, how we bebopped it in the theaters, or, like, you know? Things ever do that great because they're not very-- The only thing that ever really did that great was, like, um, Spirited Away. Gotcha. That was, like, that's essentially a Disney movie. Oh, yeah, that was marketed like a Disney movie. Yeah. But, yeah, you can't really look at it like-- That's my point, though. You can't really look at it like Hollywood because it's such a small market. No, I agreed. It's like a big hit. It sells, like, maybe 100,000 copies. But do you really think-- Do you think it's overblown? Not at all? Not at all. You don't think you're just the anime studios just saying, "Okay, look, we're down on profits. We need to-- No, I really don't. You scare tactics, or-- No, I really don't. I mean, all I got to say is Gennian. And that's basically it. Gennian was one of the largest anime companies in the U.S. and they basically shuttered themselves. And I think that says it all right there. And that hurt a lot of people just that alone. And you can just look at that and then look at Tokyo Pop restructuring, which didn't really have too much to do with that. Oh, that's really-- And then 80-- And then 80 V, basically falling off the face of the map for some reason recently. They're restructuring. Okay, I don't think Tokyo Pop-- Tokyo Pop was really more of-- They're trying to rebuild their structure again, 'cause they-- Dude, at least-- Shit, after releasing, like-- It's like-- Oh, I'll use the-- I'll use the-- The saying-- They're throwing, like, water balloon. You know, like they're throwing stuff out of a wall and saying what sticks. Yeah, and I think they're just-- They're actually kind of a-- Print is-- A logic I have for the most part. Print is a dying medium. No, it's not. Yes, it is. No, it's not. Print is a dying medium. Everything's going digital. No, it's not. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, it's not. Well, for another 30 some odd years. People who are regularly on the internet, I am convinced of this. This is my personal viewpoint, are kind of-- They believe this, they just-- It's kind of one of those bubble effects where they don't really think about how many people there are really out there. And it's just like-- I will admit, especially with video, digital is going to become bigger and bigger, but it's not going to kill physical media for another 20, 30 years, probably. Hey, I worked in the printing industry, so-- Yeah. You will admit, magazines are dead. Fuck. Stuff like magazines and newspapers are dying. I will say those are pretty dead, or pretty darn close to these days. Books and that kind of shit that's fine. You get my point, right? Yeah. I'm sure. You should come back in here. We think we should move on. Yeah, moving on. That's the thing we can do. Moving on. Moving on. Moving on. Yeah. [SINGING] [SINGING] You're now entering the Twilight Zone. And news. My coffee's on the water. [SINGING] Who needs a $2,000 coffee maker? Mmm. Well, I don't like coffee. Neither does me. OK. OK. This week in Anime News, brought to you by Anime News Network. Anyway, back to news. Oh, you go ahead and read them. You always seem to read them better, and I'll just comment. All right. Go ahead and start. All right, they've announced the cast for the CG Astro Boy movie. That's in production. Imagine Studios, the same people who did what's it? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie that came out what a year ago. I have announced that they've basically some in entertainment is going to be releasing their CG Astro Boy movie in 2009, and they've announced some of the cast, which is going to involve Nicholas Cage, Donald Slytherinland, Nathan Lane, Bill Nye, and Eugene Levy. Yeah. That guy is like-- Oh, he's Jim's dad. Yeah. Poor guy. He's like taking B-rolls and everything. Previously, they said that it was some kid named Freddy Highmore, and I think he played Charlie in that, in the Tim Burton Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. He's voicing Astro Boy. And basically, it's finally moving on. It's been kind of a slow-moving middle, so it's really on its way now. It's pretty darn cool. I think it'll be pretty fun. If you saw that Ninja Turtles, it was actually pretty well done. Imagine it's American, sort of, like the primary animation is done in Korea, I believe, which is kind of new for them, or it's newer for the CG animation. So it's-- But they've done a pretty darn good job. They did a real good job with Ninja Turtles, so I'm definitely interested in watching. I bet. Yes. You would bet. All right, Ninja Turtles, man. I don't know. I just hope it doesn't turn out like Speed Racer did. No, it won't. It's CG for one. That'll help it. And it's not going to be like an acid trip of a movie. [laughs] Whoa, I'm stressing it weird already. Exactly. All right. I want moving on. The animation announces another license. They're just licensed happy lately. They is. They announced what they're calling Big Wind Up, which is their title for the-- Baseball. Kiku, Fureka Butte. I don't know if I pronounced that right, but it's a baseball anime about a kid who was a pitcher in middle school for his baseball team, but he was given a lot of crap because his grandfather was a coach, and he kind of lost his enjoyment in baseball. And then when he gets to high school, he gets back into it with his friends and everything. It's all happy. So yeah, he didn't do it because a girl wanted him to or not. He did it for the love of friendship, teamwork, and baseball. Gay, gay, and gay. And you won't get it ahead in life with those three things. You just don't get it, man. You just don't get it. I'm not part of a TV. You just don't understand. You just don't understand. I don't play game sports, so I wouldn't really-- Yeah, you don't understand either. But, yeah. It seems like it was pretty darn popular when it was airing and stuff. It aired, like, pretty recently. I think this past fall. So, super cool. Funimation. Keep releasing stuff. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're just announced the licenses left and right. It seems like. So, there you go, all right. Moving on again. What else have we got here? Oh, this is one that probably vaguely inter-- inter-su later. What's that? Oh, that's, um, Ytizura, Nakis. Basically, they've confirmed that what I think I heard before, and that's that. Yeah, the anime series is going to be following what's the-- essentially what the road map was for the ending of the series that the creator had before she died. Basically, they went to her husband who says that she basically explained it all to him and that so he basically knew how it was going to end. They worked together to get the ending done for the anime, basically. Which is pretty cool that they're doing that. And I'm sure that's something that you should be vaguely interested in, because at least that means an anime. Yeah, no, I was kind of-- I was really happy to see that. 'Cause I was just like, "Well, great, no frickin' ending. Carcano all over again." Yeah, but it's a special. Yeah, but still. No, I'm just happy that, uh, if you have a nice proper ending, it sounds like, so-- Yeah, at least definitely. Get me a skippy, dude. All right, this is something that I found kind of funny, and that's, um, IGN is, like, on their direct-to-drive, their down-loom shit. They're hosting a bunch of episodes of Fist of the North Star, the original Fist of the North Star, online. Like, I think they're, like, two bucks an episode. Um... That's where the IGN cared about anime. They've always pretended to care. And I don't know if they're selling Fist of the North Star and slammed on it. It's like, "All right, that's super great. Now, just release it on DVD so I can buy it." 'Cause I'm not interested in buying shit online. It's like, give me, like, a nice big box set of the entire series for a reasonable price, and I'll go out and buy it right away. But I have no intention of paying money to download episodes, so... I'm the same way I'd rather have something physical than if my hard drive doesn't get wiped, or... My house blows up, and my computer's gone. Well, you're an SOL, buddy. Yeah, I don't want that crap. I don't... I have no interest in that kind of stuff. I kind of accept doing it once in a while with music, but I won't do it with anime or any other kind of video. I have to have a disc, or some kind of physical media, or I don't feel like I own it. Maybe it's 'cause I don't feel like I own music or a regardless. It's just some... the way I associate music. But with anime mainly in movies, too, I'm not paying money to not own it. You know what I mean? Having something on my hard drive doesn't make me think I own something. So, put "Fisted the North Star" on DVD, and I will buy it. I thought I already did it on DVD or was. Parts of it were. It's never had, like, a complete DVD release. Oh, okay. And I'm surprised Slam Dunk never has been on DVD. It has been on DVD, I think. I don't know if... I think... Yeah. I believe it has had a complete DVD release. Or part of it has, or I don't know. I don't think it had... I'm not really sure, actually, 'cause I don't really care that much about Slam Dunk. Yeah, it seems a pretty popular show. They've had... was there a myriad of releases. Just give me "Fisted the North Star" on DVD. Wow, I'm a bitch. Yeah, I know. It's a... It's a pretty popular, right out of man DVD. Hmm. And... They're top "Fisted". Yes, it is. It should be, because it's so awesome. It better be. I got a banner to the Star that's pretty damn close. No. Even though I know it's not. I know. You don't get all the badass head explosions and shit in banner of the stars. Yes, 'cause that's all I want to look at is... gore. Anyway... I'm badass. I don't remember the badassness. Anyway, this is something that's pretty cool. I don't know if it cools the right word. It's something. And then... Um... Katokawa... USA has been sending... Seasoned assist notices to Anime Suki, which is a BitTorrent, um... Like, stop it. What's the, um... What I'm looking for? Aggregator? BitTorrent? No, it's a BitTorrent tracker. A tracker? Yeah, a tracker. For... They only do unlicensed anime, and anyone sent from a Seasoned Assist letter, they take... Seasoned Assist letter, they take it off. 'Cause that's just how they do it. And... They basically... Katokawa, USA, is sent... Seasoned Assist letters for eleven anime. It's Canvas 2, Wagayana Onari-sama, Spicenwolf, Shuffle Memories, Rental Magica, Mushi Uta, Mamuro Kooni, Megami wa... No, Shikafuku Woe. Junjo Romantica, H2O, and... Yoshusho-sama Neo-Nomio-Koon. No, I wanna know why this is such a big deal. Why do you even hit... the front page? Yeah, just because it's... activity. Basically. But what... Basically what it looks like is... Slow News Day. Um... I don't think... I think it merits news posting. But basically what it looks like is... Katokawa, USA, is being used as a channel. For like the Japanese license companies to say, "Hey, stop distributing our stuff." So that's... Yeah, they want... And... It doesn't mean anything about them getting licensed, basically, 'cause there are... a number of shows on that list that I don't see... being released in the US. So... Granite Spicenwolf, I really want. The rest of them are kinda like, eh, whatever. But give me Spicenwolf on DVD. I want it. Now... You'll be a happy, happy pup. I'll be happy, happy, happy. Because Spicenwolf was a fantastic show. Gucci. It was fantabulous. I really liked it, basically. Anyway, moving on. This is the last piece of news we're gonna have. And that's... Unuyash is over. Yeah, everybody's celebrating. Basically the... the June 11th issue of... Shonen's Sunday magazine. Which... okay, it comes on sale June 18. So it comes out tomorrow. Yeah, it comes out tomorrow. As of this recording, it comes out tomorrow. And it's gonna be the final chapter. Which... that is 54 volume... like 55 volumes, I think. 558 chapters in 11 almost 12 years... that this has been running and it's finally going to end. Like tomorrow. All I gotta say is, I am skipping and just reading the ending. Because... I watched the anime and I have no interest in reading the rest of that. Bulk. I just wanna know how it ends. Trash... sure. Just call it what it is. Trash. Fine, trash. Whatever. There you go. I just wanna know how it ends. I don't really care about reading the rest of it. I just wanna see the ending. And I'm sure there's plenty of other people out here out there who are going to be... um... Common. They get married and live happily ever after. Or something, who knows? This one's a lot of mods. Yeah, there you go. Oh well. It's finally over and it was her... It was Takahaji's longest work. Which is like... for someone who writes real fucking long works. That's something. Yeah, no kidding. She's running my own half too. Yeah, she's running my own half with her. Roosay, Yatsura, and then... Myzinnikoku, those were three biggest ones besides me. She's no wonder. I don't know the last one you just named. Oh, Myzinnikoku? How long was that? That one was 15 volumes. But yeah, it sounds like she just likes... taking a story and spreading it as thin as possible. Myzinnikoku, I literally just finished reading a few days ago and I really enjoyed it. Like last week I finished reading it. I really enjoyed it. Anime or manga? It's old. I mean, I know it's manga, but I mean... Yeah, there is an anime. Okay. It's old. And it's... There's a lot of stuff in it that's what you would call... Quiche now. But I... enjoyed it. I thought it was quite a bit of fun. So... There you go. I got something to grab about here in a little bit. So... Anyway, yeah. Alright. That's all the news for the week? That is news for the week. Okay. And it's time for the DVD picks for the week. Sure. It's another week and more DVDs are being released. What should you get? It's time for the weekly DVD picks. Okay. Yeah. Shut me up, I guess. I pissed on your... Yes, you fucker. Okay, well... Yes. Bonsai me. Well, I think in the next week or two, we're going to probably do a spring... Or not a spring summer. I probably could do a spring wrap-up show/summer-preview show. See, I would say that, but neither of us is watching enough of the show. That's true, too. I don't have time to watch everything. Okay, well, then scratch that. Well, probably do a spring. Yeah, probably the next probably week or two. I would say probably two weeks. So we have time to... Research everything. But probably do a spring... I apologize. Summer. Summer. The warm season where I don't... Yes. Or you gain extra weight from not going outside and stuff. I'm losing my extra weight from going outside, or I don't know. Anyway, I think we'll be doing a review show or a preview show here for summer. It's probably about two weeks. Maybe next week or not. And if anyone is interested in joining us, we always like to have an extra third or fourth person. Because the more of the merrier, we don't know enough. We don't know enough, but everything. And if you think you can give your two cents, something that people would enjoy listening to, hit us up on the forums.bonzeb.com. Tell us an email. Show@bonzeb.com. Yeah.
