Hey, I'm still checking out Japanese TV. Isn't this that cartoon that causes seizures? I need to survive. I need to survive. ♪♪♪ It's the bonsai beat with Pat and Jell-O Koon. Your weekly dose of the latest news, current and classic show reviews, DVD picks, and so much more. ♪♪♪ Welcome to episode eight of the bonsai beat. This week we're looking at news as always, DVD picks. And there isn't much in the way of episodes, but Pat and I both managed to catch the first episode of Too Love Ru. So without further ado, there's a Jell-O Koon. And here is Mr. Pat's. And let's get ready for a fun episode. One week at the bonsai beat. Indeed. ♪♪♪ God. I don't know why I keep doing that yet. Go trade. Now go trade market and you're good. Yeah, right. I think Rick Fier is already got that at one. Hey, he retired. Uh, trade marks, trade marks, and I don't know how old y'all are. You'll get over it. You're fired. Oh, yeah. Indeed. Yeah. So how was your weekend, my friend? Weekend. Man, not too much going on. It's a little bit anime. Yeah. I actually blogged for the first time. And for ages. I see that Oka got the psych back up and running. Yeah. That's something we should mention is that the a bonsai.animateblogger.net site is back up with a new fancy, fancy pants layout. Which I personally, for the most part, I think I prefer. 'Cause... I like to solve it, but... I missed some menus where they were just context rollover. Now they're just like archive. Okay. Yeah, I'll give you that. But at the same time, this isn't quite as busy, which kind of drove me nuts about the other one. Yeah, there was a lot of stuff. It was too busy and it kind of frustrated me. 'Cause I like my, uh, I like my sites as simple as possible, for the most part. And I find myself the simpler site, the more often I'll visit it. 'Cause it's a lot of pain in the ass and I don't actually come up later on today. It actually. Yeah. Alright, well, I guess since we've rambled a little bit, let's kick it off with a little news. For our tools. And I'm gonna kick it off as usual. And the first thing I'm gonna talk about is that, um, an anime series based on the Torador light novels has been announced for production. Um, basically, it's this series of light novels about, um, this boy who, he kind of looks like a, he has like an evil face, but, um, he's actually a nice guy and this girl who kind of are in the two of them basically coming together over the fact that they're both kind of, um, shunned or outcasts of their classes in school because of, uh, because of the way they are basically. And are you still there? Yep. Okay, you know, you must be muting your mic or something, aren't you? I was 'cause there's like cops and shit outside. Okay. It was just confusing me 'cause I stopped hearing feedback and I was like, I'm like, 'cause I'm still paranoid about this thing. Nah, you're good. You've been coughing in and out, but I know what to go down to your end because you're recording. Yeah. Alright. Well, anyway, and, well, basically, there's already a manga based on it that started running. Only a couple chapters have run so far. I've read the first chapter and I really like it. I'm actually really excited to see this because there's no English translation legal or otherwise of the white novels yet. And I imagine that by the time the anime picks up, that'll probably push the interest in it enough to probably give me some translations of the novels. So that works for me and then, well, basically it's yet another one of those. A fun little romance-like novel series and I... Okay, yeah. I was about to ask what, uh... Yeah, I was going to ask you what kind of... what it kind of went around. You know, what's the genre? Yeah. You know, school, romance kind of thing. Nah. Anime understood. It always seems anime industry can't. The writers can't think of anything, you know, outside that boundary, so yeah. It's not the school, it's another way. No, I do not. It just sounds like another school rum will want to be... I don't know. I don't think it's going to be quite... it's not quite as goofy as that. That's the thing. School rumble is goofy as hell. I mean, gotcha. No denying it. Alright, well, moving on, my friend. You want to take this one? Yeah, for sure. So, ex-Japan to play New York City's Mass and Square Garden this fall. Uh, the New Year United ex-Japan rock band has announced on April 3rd in a press conference that they will perform its first concert in America. And the historical Mass and Square Garden. Uh, the concert will be held on September 13th. And the band leader, Yoshiki, Hashi. Hi, Hashi. Goddammit, I can't speak. Basically, he said it was his dream to go abroad to perform in a world tour. And he announced last week that ex-Japan had to play a concert on July 5th in Paris. So, wow, they're going all over the world. Yeah, it's like this is like a whole big thing, because they came back together for this tour in Japan, I believe. And yeah, they're going to Paris in July and it's September 13th. They're coming to Mass and Square Garden. And that's something that I would really love to say, personally, but that's just too far away for me to go. Basically, I'm not flying New York for a concert. Yeah, I hear you. Well, I'd be kind of pissed off because they speak Japanese. It's like, "Oh, right." I can't understand a fucking word they're saying. Well, some of the nodal contributions to anime were the X-squared music video collection and later X-movie and Madhouse Studios adapted both productions from Clamps X-Manga. So, there you have it. There's a lot of Xs there, obviously. A lot of Xs, yes. Well, all right, I'm going to be moving on once again, my friend. Something I find is something I find a little funny, actually. Is that a second season of series season, whatever, of Rosario to Vampire has been announced to air in October. Which, that's pretty darn quick for something like this. Basically, the first season finished airing a couple weeks ago, like two weeks ago, tops. I've already got the second one planned to air in October. It'll probably be another 13 episode series in The Planets. They're going to have more characters show up and then from what it sounds like some more anime original stuff. And the thing that makes me laugh, and it kind of makes me cringe at the same time, is the tentative title for it. Which is Rosario to Vampire, Caputo. If you watch this show, you know why, because Mocha, the main character, whenever she sucks on Sugene's blood, she goes, Caputo. And, just thinking about that makes me crack up a little bit, it's just so stupid. I'm sorry, anyway. Anyway, yeah, to me it doesn't really mean much, but yeah, I guess there's a lot of fans that should just end it. It's good news for them. Most people come to hate about it so I'm sorry. It's one of those love-hate manga adaptation things. Gotcha. Penny shots. A lot of penny shots. Yeah, it gets old after a while. Very, and it kind of drove me nuts. Anyway, go ahead, my friend. Stan Lee Sht, German King's Tiki, Universe Ultimate Manga Pick. Well, there's a picture here, it's great. No. Jump Squares Magazine has revealed the first finalised image from Ultimo, the new series from Spider-Man and X-Man co-creator Stan Lee. And, Shaman King. Creator, Piroyuki Takei. Well, excuse me, I can't speak. That's why I jumped in there to get you through it. The series will be previewed and the premiere issue of Jump SQ2 Spin-Up, which will ship on April 18th. So, next week. Yeah. So, yeah, it's kind of cool. Basically, it's some kind of team-up behind between the creator of Shaman King and Stan Lee, who seems to be branching off into a bunch of wild-ass projects these days. He must be getting bored. Hey, he's old. He's gonna die soon. You gotta do as much as he can. Yeah, he must just be getting bored doing cameos and Marvel movies. That's kind of doing weird movies with Disney. Well, no, he's a known anime fan. Yeah, obviously. I watched a documentary on anime, actually, on showtime of all things. And they were Stan Lee doing a lot of the commentary, because giving opinions more or less, but they used him a lot. Well, it's not a surprise. I mean, he's a bizarre guy, to say the least. Well, it's definitely something I'd like to check out. And it's gonna be running somewhere. It's probably gonna be running in the visit shown in Jump in the U.S. and it's safe to assume. Yeah, and Viz also said that they hold a press conference or press event. I had the New York Comic Con on this project the same day, so... Yeah, Viz probably just grabbed the rights to it already and said, "Hey, we want it." It's probably co-produced. It makes the American mess and stuff. Oh, all right. Moving on once again is a Eureka 7 movie. It has been Greenland. Eureka, whatever. Oh, Eureka. Anyway, basically, the upcoming issue of New Type in Japan is going to officially announce that there is a Eureka 7 movie in production that's basically bringing together the entire team that worked on the original series back together that's working on it with bones. To make this new movie. It's supposed to be a new mythos, but it's going to still feature written in Eureka from the series. Ooh. Still gonna star them. Johnny Young Bosch has a job still. Yeah, because he's not... I mean, every other anime that comes out in the U.S. and these things. And you know what I heard? I mean, I don't know if it's true. I don't remember where I read it. I think it was on the A at the anime on DVD. The anime on DVD forums that someone met him. And basically he said he hates anime and the voice acting is just another paycheck to him. That's not true. That's not true. He does tons of stuff for him. He produces like a podcast on anime. If I remember correctly or something. I mean, he's very involved in this kind of stuff. It's not that at all. Gladcha. He works in a lot of stuff. It's not... There's not even an anime. I mean, he does stuff like games too and all that kind of shit. Yeah, he was in the Devil May Cry. He was in all that jazz. I can't remember the name of the... He does a podcast. I know it. Or he does... Yeah, they probably all do podcasts. I like the podcasts of those girls from the TV, anime TV or whatever. RAR. Heh heh heh heh. He replaced you in an heartbeat. Heh heh heh. He didn't worry. Okay. So yeah, that's uh... El Raka 7. Yay. Yes, it is. It's very much... We haven't seen the ending, so I mean... I haven't... Maybe... I haven't watched since like episode... I see volume 6 or 7. So... I got some, uh... Catch up and do it for the rest of the world. I remember I caught one episode on Cartoon Network's website on adultswim.com. And she grew wings and I was just like, "What the fuck?" And I got scared. Spoiler alert. I really need to... Finish watching and pick up the rest of the DVDs. And... Alright, moving on. We're gonna bring us to our last story, which is probably the one that we'll ramble about the most. And that's that... Chris Beveridge announced on Monday that he sold anime on DVD to a company called mania.com, which runs... It's like an online site for sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. Woring. Hey, I think it... Hey, I think this could be significant, basically. Woring. I need to put the whole word song in there. There you go. I don't know. I guess it could be. The thing that I'm worried about is, I mean, the good for him for, you know, being successful with that. I mean, it's a full-time job for him in that site. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Look at all the perks he gets, though. And you know he's getting kicked back from me. When, I mean, I've seen... Uh... What was it? I'm sorry. I'm not thinking clearly tonight. I think it was a Steel Angel Carumi box set. They had a quote on the front of the box. Or on the back of the box, I mean, from anime on DVD. You know your stuff is good. Yeah. Yeah, you know your stuff is good. I mean, even freaking... Hey, a Funimation. I know ADV. Anytime they post a new review of... Uh... You know, any of their products. Uh... It's on their, you know, main website. Yeah, 'cause it's like the main destination for this kind of stuff. And the only thing I'm interested in is hopefully the site doesn't change much in terms of structure. And this goes back to what I was rambling about earlier. It's, I don't... I like my sites real simple, and that's what I like about anime on DVD. It's very simple. I click a button. I click upcoming releases. I got a table of all the releases. That kind of thing. Yep. But it sounds like, well the things they said they are changing is kind of like the wrapper. But they said the... Yeah. Everything else is kind of saying the same. That's what it says. They aren't keeping it independent for the most part. Yeah. Just because we have to deal with all the extra crap anymore he says to deal with. You know. Well, he said the infrastructure. He said basically they're just gaining a good backer and a very good infrastructure that holds the site on. You know. Yeah, basically. And then if you've noticed some of the latest banner ads are not even anime related. Yeah. Which is kind of goofy, but... Basically I don't know what it sounds like. I mean, as long as it doesn't change too much in terms of the structure and stuff, I'm all for it. I mean, good luck to you of course for cashing it on your success. Yeah, I wonder how much he's making. Who knows? He'll be banking. But I mean, yeah, freaking, you know, production studios and whatnot are using your quotes in their anime releases. Because, you know, in your genre that you're writing about, you know you're doing something right. Yeah. I thought about side joining up with them, but... I don't have a good hat in my hand. My writing skills aren't the... Aren't the best and I honestly just don't have the time to be watching the full episode. When I was writing DVD reviews, that was the one thing I always aspire for instead of the same quality as them, basically. That's what I tried for. But my problem is it's kind of hard to not be objective or try not to... It takes work. It's an interesting experience, let me say it that much. Yeah, I was trying the best, but it's just too much. It's like screw it. I like to show... It took you two times. I'll tell you that much. But anyway, I guess with that, that's basically our new... Oh, yeah, one more story. Oh, we do? They got WoW anime coming. Clenad and Shuffle and... What you love? Who was you? Oh, yeah. Stock capo two. No, yeah, that's what it was, the capo two. Basically, second life meets anime. You get to get a character from... You get to create your own avatar, but then you get a doll that can be one of the characters. And all that can be one of the characters from the show of your choice. And then you can live in a house together. It sounds like a rip off of Harvest Moon and Second Life and Sims all rolled in into WoW. I just said that in there, it's an interesting little... If you give a shit, go look it up. Yeah, it's on A&N. Go take a look. Yeah, like most of our news, you'll be able to find on A&N. And I guess now that we're done with that, we can move on to our weekly DVD picks. Huzzah. Indeed. And I'll let you kick this one off, my friend. Okay, well, we finally are out of the four or five reliefs. Uh, you know, that's... Oh, huzzah. Don't be saying we're out of that 'cause next week's even worse, man. Uh... It is. Yeah, we got a good section. Just a little better than last week. Let's put it that way. Still a lot of re-releases, though. I'll say that that much. Anyway, uh... Yeah. So Ella Waka 7 is finishing up. Finally. After hours, we're over a year. And due to duplication errors, which seems like Band-I... This is a lot of studio's. I've had a lot of problems lately. But yeah, they do finally have volume 12 coming out this coming week. Right. In regular and special editions, which I'll be buying the special edition of. There you go. I'm a sucker for special editions. Yeah, I don't make it a secret. Uh... Yeah. Also, everybody get another... Get another release. Yeah, that's what I do for the week. I'm happy to see, kind of, come to an end, too. 'Cause... It's a good show, but... I can finally see what I'm happy with. There you go. I also want to throw this one out. This isn't exactly a must-buy, but anyone who actually managed to finish the Destiny... It hasn't seen Final Plus, which is the extended version of the last episode. You're really almost gonna send to you, almost owe it to yourself to pick it up. To at least rent it. 'Cause it's only... It's one episode DVD for 20 bucks, honestly. I think it has some... Well, 'cause that's what it is. It's an extended version of the last episode. It's like 40 minutes long. Mmm. But... It's an improved version of the last episode, 'cause the real version, or the TV version of it sucked, and they really should have put Final Plus on the last volume and not sold it separately. That kind of bugs me that they did it this way. But it's definitely something, if you haven't seen it, and you actually finish the show, try and see it somehow, rent it, or buy it if you're a completist like me. This is a little extra shout-out there for you. There you go. So, you actually managed to finish the show. So, what are these new special... Seed Destiny specials? Uh, those are, um... They did a set of four TV movies that are a retelling of the series. Oh. Week. They did it for the first scene, too. Oh, okay. That's kind of curious, as well. Yeah. I saw 'em earlier today, and I was like, "Huh." But, yeah. They love this kind of stuff over at Band-i. It's an easy way to make extra money. Oh, yeah. We want to do this week. Oh, Robot Frogs. We play soccer. Okay, make it happen. People buy it. Hell, yes. Uh... And with that, there's our DVD picks, and we go into silence. Silence. Silence. Yeah. They say something. All right. I wanna... But it's your job, or... Something. It is, eh? Uh... I guess you can call us a job. There you go. Uh, I certainly would consider calling it a job, at least. So, yeah. Uh, so Pat and I both had a chance to check out Tulavuru. Episode 1. I watched it last night, and it was... Funny. Yes. Yeah, we both watched it, um, day or, past day or so. A couple days ago, or whatever. I don't know. But... I know this guy here, who is going to be blogging it on it, um, and I made Bond's Eye. Yeah, I figured I would bite the bullet. And, uh... Yeah. Yeah. Uh, I haven't blogged really anything, you know, before I started the podcast. I was doing, um... I don't want to know JeaKen. And I kind of kill, I kind of left it at episode 10, and I never really finished it, to be honest. Um, I probably should finish that sometime, but probably don't give the shit now. Um, and then, yeah, otherwise, then that, it was like, I did school days, so... I figured now that I'm getting a little bit more time. Uh, just some shows I'm going to watch. I might as well just blog one or two, but I'm also going to check out Crystal Blaze and Soul Eater as well. Yeah, and Soul Eater is probably going to be the one that we talk about more regularly than to love through. 'Cause... Indeed. I will say, this guy here, he obviously really enjoyed it, but... I was kind of flukewarm to this, at least the first episode. I mean, I was laughing, but... I don't know, I think right now my patience for stupid stuff is kind of... Wearing then? Yeah, I think that's what it is, and I just need a break from the stupid shit, and I'm kind of... picking up more serious shows for the most part right now. Yeah. Gotcha. So, I was kind of like, uh, okay. It was fun. Yeah, and for me personally, this is, like, my first really year that I've gone through the actual seasons as they're coming out. For a long time, I just watched R1, so... You know, I didn't pay attention to the jet, to the current airing. Yeah, and I really noticed, like, there is a shitload of love stories. That's what I'm taking. That's everything. What I'm taking a break from is, I don't need any more of that shit right now. I'm done with those for a little while. Yeah. I like the episode. I'll say it heavily took some cues from other shows. Specifically, uh... Yeah, I heard people say that. Rest changing scene. That was kind of funny, just kind of a nod to it. But I thought it was kind of weird. It's like, well, the first thing you're just seeing, like, uh, the spaceship flying next to it looks like the frickin' Star Wars Death Star. And they even fly in there. They head to myself as that scene was going on. That's no moon. God, tell me you got that reference. Yes, I got it. Thank you. I'm not that nerdy. But yeah. And then they show, like, her... Pucking. And they don't really see a picture where you see her boobs pretty well. And it's like, they need to know from there on. It's like, well, this is gonna be filled with fan... Uh, uh, uh, service. Fan service, that's it. I knew of something. So yeah. Um... Basically, it's your average story with some unique twists, I guess. Yeah. I mean, it comes down to guy like's girl, guy meets other girl. Oh, no, no, not exactly. Yes. Not exactly. No. The girl just happens to be an alien. Yes, but the tail. Yeah, she does have a tail. That looks like a spade. But yeah, basically the show is... Guy has, like, crush on girl. And then another girl shows up and then, like, miss community. I just miss... Watch her own the reasons for doing things. And the guy doesn't want to go along with it. And she can invent shit, like vacuum coon. No, all right. Stupid ass vacuum cleaner tentacle robot thing. That sucks everything. Yes. She can invent things and a whim. Basically, her name is Lala. And she's from a different planet. She came to Earth to get it. She's basically running away from home because she doesn't want to do an arranged marriage. And she ends up in the main character's bathroom named Rito. Bathtub. Bathtub, excuse me. And so, basically... I will admit, I will admit that it has good characters for the most part. I mean, like Rito's sister, she's funny. And... Yeah. Rito, he's pretty... He's an interesting guy himself. He reminds me a lot of the main character from DNA Angel. I cannot think of his name off the top of my head right now. But... Like, the art that they use, the hairstyle, all that. Very similar. And like, same mannerism, same all that jazz. But they've got some really wacky facial expressions and all that jazz. So, it doesn't take itself too seriously. It looks like... Oh, honestly. The only thing that worries me is it's 26 episodes. And... You can only take a show like this so far. I mean, I am batting until episode 8. Lala and... Uh... Haruna become friends. And they go to the beach together. Or the pool. And there's shit loads of fanservice. Hell yes. So, I mean, damn, it's gonna be inevitable. But yeah. Oh, there's gonna be like a hot tub or a hot spring episode. There has to be. And there always is. Fuck, they got us on buttons if hot springs apparently in Japan. All the kids, all the kids can't do anything cool. Like, let's just go to the mall or the arcade. No, let's go to the hot spring in Hokkaido. That's like 65 miles away. You know, because we all have money. And we're flushed with money. Yeah, that's the thing. That's a good point, actually. We're these kids have all this money. Yeah, it's like we live by ourselves. We have our own house. We got a job. And we're in 10th grade. And we can go on vacation. I mean, shit. I was watching Ozymongodio and they went to like some trip together. Yeah, but she was a little kid. Yeah, but she was loaded. Oh, okay. That was why. Yeah, she's super genius, a little rich bitch. That's why they went on trips. There's no secret there. Go to the frickin amusement park. Oh, that's cool. We got money. Yeah, you know, we have no jobs. Yeah. Japan must be great. They must hand out money, like they're running out of it. Like if they don't hand it out, it's going to be burned or something. They must have that word. It's called inflation. Yes. That housing must be readily available. I mean, shit. I looked at housing and nearly shut my pants because like damn. Because of the size comparison to what you pay here for the same size is like. Yeah. It's psychotic. Indeed. We kind of got way off topic there, didn't we? I guess, but whatever. Yeah, that's the fun of this kind of stuff. Exactly. So yeah, I would say the first episode was fun to watch. I just hope that it doesn't get predictable. And I can really see a lot of twists and all that stuff. And I really hope they keep ripping off anime parodies. Come on, scroll days. Oh lord. Oh. It's one other thing I want to throw out before we end tonight though is one show that I watched. I was kind of lukewarm to at first, but then I watched the first episode and it actually. I wouldn't say blow me away, but it actually has me very interested. It's Kure and I, which is the show about this kid. Damn, what is it that he is? He's like a collector basically. Oh, it isn't about the bodyguard, sorry, okay. Yeah, and then he gets hired essentially to be a bodyguard to this seven year old girl. In the first episode alone, the animation was not half bad if he asked me. Maybe I was coming off of Two Lover when I watched it and that's why I thought the animation was really good. But, um. Yeah, the animation Two Lover wasn't bad. But anyway, I think it's something that might actually be one of the better shows this season. And if you're were on the fence about checking it out, definitely do because I personally, just out of the first episode, I really like it and I'm very interested in seeing more of it. Mm-hmm. Gotcha. Botta Bing, Botta Boom, baby. Exactly. I don't know, I'm just literally looking forward to something that's out of the ordinary air, man. I've been here something, yeah. It's a soul eater already, damn old. Get the trailer, get the trailer and good ass quality. Mm, it's not the same. And it's subbed. Hooray. Oh my God, I can be more excited. Or I'll boat some, uh, Gundam Seed or some Zeta Car and Children. Oh, I want to see that. Oh, it's out. It is? Yes, and two flavors, 704x400 and 1280x720. I want to jack that 1280x720. I mean, I'm going to borrow it from Japan and then give it back because piracy is wrong. If you're a pirate, you're a loser. God, goddamn pirates. God, yeah, we hate you. No, piracy is good. That's not the right thing. That's not the right thing, I say, either. We support the industry. We support industry to an extent. I can afford food. I support industry. Yeah, food always comes first. I don't have to pay rent right now, so that makes things a little different. I'll pay my mortgage and then I'll buy rent. Or, I mean, no. I will buy rent the musical on Disney. Yes. I'm going to stomp, stomp the hooder. I'm going to stomp the brown bitch. Stop the York bitch. Oh, God. Okay, anyway. Welcome to America. Yes. Oh, we're idiots. Anyway, okay. We're another show. I think we should wrap it up here. Yeah. I want to remind everybody. Check us out everywhere. Feedburner. I taught iTunes. For View us, email us. Abonzaipodcast@gmail.com.
