Let's look at the numbers. This is West Michigan's Morning News. Rory O'Neill NBC News Radio, National Correspondent on the Live Line. Hey, Rory. Hey, Steve. Talk to us a little bit about what we know. Pulling is a snapshot from the time that they do. Is this obviously numbers that you have come post-debate? They do, and they're really not moving as much as I thought they would. Yes, Donald Trump has extended his lead over Joe Biden, but only by a point or two following Thursday's debacle of a debate by Joe Biden. The numbers haven't moved that much, and that I'll add a big "yet" to that, because, look, only 52 million tuned in to watch the debate out of 350 million Americans, right? So it's still filtering through to a lot of people who are getting to see the clips afterwards, and also we're also seeing the Democrats react. We saw the first Democratic member of Congress, a man from Texas, decide yesterday to come out and say, "Joe Biden, you have to step aside." There may be 25 other Democrats waiting in the wings, Democratic members of Congress waiting in the wings who may say the same thing to Joe Biden as early as today. That could cause some of these falling poll numbers to snowball. Well, what's interesting is because it is so close, we've got another debate coming up. Isn't it an overreaction by the Democratic Party? That's the thing that I think is going to be key, and then if they did decide to make a move, obviously, and we've talked about this before, who would it be? Well, A, do we have another debate coming up? Yeah, I mean, that's a fair question. I, if you're him, would you? Exactly. Why would you, right? After that performance, I mean, Donald Trump did not participate in any of the Republican primary debates. He may feel that it doesn't do him any better to participate in the one penciled in for September. Also notice what the Donald Trump campaign has been doing this week. Not much. Just standing by and letting the Democrats implode and eat themselves. So they're not really getting involved. They're just letting all of this happen as it looks like the Biden team is facing an awful lot of pressure. How they respond is going to be significant. Do they start to change people at the White House? Do they change people at the campaign? It would have to be some high profile maneuvers. We're going to hear from President Biden in an interview with George Steppenopoulos at ABC. That's going to happen on Friday. But an interview on a Friday night, I mean, that's, who's going to hear that? It's the holiday weekend. We're going to tune into that. And is the thing taped early? I guess, early is one of the things I saw that on NBC News last night. They were doing a thing on sundowners. Is that part of the problem with the president? Quick to the president's defense was Corinne Jean-Pierre. I saw her say in, in, in audio that the president has done some 40 unscripted interviews fact checked today. It's really 22. So, are they being defensive? Kind of sounds like it. Yeah, they are. And, you know, but again, until we saw that Texas congressman come out yesterday and say it's time to change, that may be the tipping point. Let's see if that cracks the dam. And to the earlier point of, is it a democratic overreaction? You know, we all know who's going into this debate, right? We know both of these candidates quite well. We've seen them both be president. So, I don't know if it is, you know, an overreaction by the campaign. There are a lot of never Trumpers out there. They're the ones making all the noise online, I think, about trying to change the ticket. They don't want to support Donald Trump, but then they've got concerns about Joe Biden. And I know they try to compare it to what it was like under Obama and his bad debate performance, but that was about performance by Obama. Now the real concern is ability, and does Joe Biden have the ability to handle these kinds of interviews now up into the election, and then for four years after that?
