And welcome to West Michigan's Morning News. Steve Kelly, Brett Bakeda, Lauren Smith, Adam Arrocho, Monday, July 1, 2024. Smitty, it's top five time. At number five, if you've got some dough to dole out and you love the Don McLean Classic American Pie, lyrics are hitting the auction block. And get this. Don's handwritten fair copy, which means this isn't even an original of the American Pie lyrics is going for $154,000. Yeah, so fair copies are handwritten lyrics that were penned by an artist after the original lyrics sheet was completed. So Don apparently wrote this copy a few years back for a buddy. The original went for $1.2 million back in 2015. Well, it's an almost nine minute song. And they don't repeat anything but the chorus and-- It scribbled across eight sheets of paper. So fair move. Yeah, it's eight sheets of paper. So per page, it's a little bit better by. Something touched. At number four on the list, a Pennsylvania woman who bought a lottery ticket to celebrate the dual milestones of her birthday and finishing cancer treatment, $1.5 million. You ever had somebody give you a lottery ticket for a birthday at Christmas? Oh, yeah. Yeah. So it could be. It looks good on paper. It could be $5 million. Or I maybe just spent $1 on you. It's not. But this one, holy smokes. That was the Monopoly Owning All Scratch Off ticket bought at a speedway store. So feel free to keep buying them for me. At number three, the breaking news out of the NBA yesterday morning actually involved your Detroit Pistons. They have a new head coach hours before NBA Free Agency kicked off. The organization hired J.B. Bickerstaff. League sources confirmed that the Detroit free press did as well. Bickerstaff 45 previously was a head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers from 20 to 24, leading to their first round of the playoffs in 2023 in the second round last season. So when this guy comes with a good pedigree, this is fourth stop. I mean, not only Cleveland he was involved with, but you look at some of the other ones. And he's got a five year deal he's been with Houston as well. And so J.B. Bickerstaff, your new Pistons head coach. Isn't that a cartoon in the paper, those old people that argue all the time? It's the Bicker sons. Never mind. Number two on the list. I know it's you. Florida man has been arrested after he fired at a Walmart delivery drone. Ringcam caught comments from the shooter. I fired one round at it. Now they say I hit it, so I must be a good shot. 72 year old Dennis Nguyen has been arrested and charged with mischief and damage over $1,000 and shooting at an aircraft set. He thought he was being watched. So he wanted to take care of it. Well, that's, yeah, that happens a lot. A lot of us will look out the window and see. He's proud of it though. Like he doubled down on that thing. He really did. Finally at number one on the list, the San Diego Zoo. Announce the safe arrival of the first two giant pandas to enter the country in 21 years. I bring this up 'cause it's gonna be at the San Diego Zoo and both Brett and myself spent the long dollar to go to the San Diego Zoo and there were no pandas. That's right. So now they're back. Remember we had to ship them back to get cleaned? I think that's what you gotta do every few years. The zoo said they arrived safely after a long flight from China. They apparently had a big sea later party and representatives from the zoo got to go. So there you go. We'll let you know if they end up anywhere else. I would recommend the koala bears though. They were cute and then the baby hippo if you do go. Oh, baby hippo. Yeah, it was a baby hippo. There's a pygmy hippo at John Ball. It's like 600 pounds but compared to giant hippos. It looks pretty babyish. So when we were there with the girls Thursday night, they thought it was adorable. Yeah, every once in a while, a sprinkler goes off and it tears a butt around its little enclosure. I mean, come on. Wow. You don't want to go mono-e-mono with a hippo though, I would say. Oh, yeah, no. Don't get in there. No, listen. Luciana, eat a watermelon? Yeah. No. If you think that there's any interactive stuff outside of the petting zoo, don't go to the zoo. No. And there it is, friends. Today's top five.
