This is WBC, Boston's News Radio, redefining local news. 82 degrees in Boston at 4 o'clock. Good afternoon, I'm Madison Rogers. And here's what's happening. Today, America is reeling. This after the attempted assassination, targeting a former president and presumptive presidential nominee, Donald Trump is now traveling to Milwaukee for the GOP convention, as President Biden calls for an independent probe of the attack. With the latest developments now, we go to a special report from CBS. CBS News Special Report. President Biden's offering support to former President Trump following his attempted assassination in Pennsylvania. We'll debate and we'll disagree. That's not going to change. But it's going to-- we're going to not lose sight, in fact, who we are as Americans. Politicians on both sides have been condemning this attack. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise. We needed Donald to rhetoric down. And there's been a lot of rhetoric for the last few months. Former First Lady Melania Trump also released a statement today calling the shooter a monster. Trump himself is headed to Milwaukee today for the Republican National Convention. But CBS and Nicole Skenga says his security has been pretty tight. Former President Trump's detail grew back in June. He was given additional counter sniper teams. Certainly now, despite the tragedy of yesterday, some relief that there were four teams at that event. Security now bumped up even more in Milwaukee, the head of the FBI, calling it the highest level threat since 9/11. CBS News Special Report, I'm Monica Ricks. Speaking from the White House this afternoon, President Biden condemned the shooter's actions and called for peace and unity. President Biden says he's directed the head of the Secret Service to review all security measures for the Republican National Convention, scheduled to begin Monday in Milwaukee. And he's directed an independent review of the security at the Trump rally Saturday evening to determine exactly what happened. He said the results will be shared with Americans. Mr. Trump is a former president and nominee of the Republican Party, already receives a heightened level of security. And I've been consistent in my direction to the Secret Service to provide him with every resource, capability and protective measure necessary to ensure his continued safety. Karen Travers, ABC News, Washington. And the president says he'll have more information with an address from the Oval Office tonight at eight. WBC News Radio will carry it live. You can also listen in on the iHeart Radio app. As questions swirl around a motive, many are worried for what this could mean for the already fraught state of American politics. Some Republican leaders are criticizing President Biden and Democrats as a whole for their language around the former president. Here's ABC's Martha Raditz. - We've heard President Trump say he wants the country to come together to be united, but others are directly pointing the finger at President Biden with, of course, no evidence that he incited this or had anything to do with this assassination attempt. We heard Senator J.D. Vance in a tweet say, this is not just some isolated incident. The central premise of the Biden campaign is that President Donald Trump is an authoritarian fascist who must be stopped at all costs. - President Biden is urging Americans to refrain from making assumptions around the motive here, saying let the FBI do its job. Checking the four-day WBC AccuWeather forecast, tonight's mainly clear with a low around 73 in Boston, a bit cooler away from the coast. Tomorrow we have a heat advisory in effect. It is partly sunny, hot and sticky with the thunderstorm in spots in the afternoon. We're expecting a high around 92 in Boston, but real-field temps in the upper 90s. We have some more storms around tomorrow night. Tuesday is sunny to partly cloudy, hot and humid with again the chance of a storm later in the afternoon in parts of the area. The high for Tuesday around 94 and the real-field temps nearing or even hitting triple digits. We do have an excessive heat watch for that day, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday is another hot, sticky one with a gusty thunderstorm in places in the afternoon. Those could get nasty with the chance for flooding downpours, hail and damaging wind gusts high around 93 on Wednesday. Right now in Boston, it's 82 degrees, real-fields closer to 90, a sunny sky overhead at 405. And with that intense heat on the horizon, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is now declaring a heat emergency for the next three days. The declaration starts tomorrow and goes through Wednesday. Temperatures are expected to reach the 90s, even high 90s with, again, real-fields, potentially in the hundreds. Cooling centers will be open from nine to five tomorrow at all 14 Boston centers for youth and families, the Wang YMCA in Chinatown, Veronica Smith's senior center in Brighton and the East Boston senior center as well.
