And we have a flood watch in effect through eight o'clock at six o'clock. Good morning. I'm Charlie Bergeron. Here's what's going on. Rain, rain. Go away. It says cloudy and humid today with showers and a heavy thunderstorm around with highs from 82 to 86. A lingering shower is possible earlier this evening especially north and west of the city. Otherwise, partly cloudy tonight with a low of 72. And we have a flood watch in effect through eight o'clock tonight, secular meteorologist with the full four day forecast on the way. Some in Boston worried that recent violence could disrupt a trend of peace in Boston. Here's WVZ's Madison Rogers. There have been six homicides so far this year in Boston. This time last year there had been 18 and that was a record low year in a city that already had comparatively low crime rates. The stark drop in violence has some hoping Boston could become a more time gun violence. Communities are on edge. Five people were shot in Dorchester this week. Just one of a string of recent shootings. Mayor Wu reacting said they have a lot more work to do to make Boston safe for all. Madison Rogers, WVZ, Boston's News Radio. A mother and daughter caught off guard when a mysterious metal object slams into their car. Ivana Paratori was driving with a three year old daughter Viviana on Route 93 South in Medford yesterday when a piece of metal crashed into the hood of their car, hit the windshield and then slid across the roof. That object also hitting a second car. The mother and daughter shaken up but no one was injured. Police have not said what that metal object was or where it could have possibly come from. Several squadrons of US fighter jets returned to Virginia yesterday after a nine month deployment in the Middle East. Part of a strike group with the USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier confronting Iranian backed aircraft that was killed by the U.S. Houthi militants. CBS is Charlie Dagona. It is a fight that continues in the intensity of the close combat fighting and repeated targeting of the carrier itself has taken its toll on returning service members. Today's a very big day for everybody as we actually get to see our families again. But for us, we integration is going to take a lot of time as we square with everything that we've been through. The carrier itself is due to arrive over the weekend. Defense officials tell us they're willing to support for pilots and sailors when they return home. The USS Theodore Roosevelt has taken over the Eisenhower's operations in the Red Sea. Remember that peer that was built to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza? It will be permanently dismantled only a few months after it opened. Pentagon officials making that announcement yesterday. The peer, 230 million dollars to put together has been temporarily closed several times because of poor weather. President Biden initially announced that the peer would be opened and put together during his state of the union address, saying it would ensure food and water to starving Palestinians. Let's check the four day. WBC AccuA, the forecast, Latroit Thornton tells us today will be cloudy, humid, some showers, some heavier thunderstorms will be moving through, getting a few showers in the city at this hour. Temperatures expected into the mid 80s, a lingering shower tonight with a few showers in the morning. The rain is going to be a little bit cooler. It's otherwise cloudy, humid, low 72. Tomorrow looks fine. Sunny, warm, not as humid, 86 to 90. From Monday, clouds, sun, hot, humid, always that chance of a late day storm, 88 to 92. And then Tuesday, just hot. Sunshine high 95. So a lot of showers popping up throughout the area at this hour. Some of the heaviest rain at this hour is down along the Cape. We've got a few showers popping up well to our north as well around the Newburyport area, 75 there. And here in Boston with clouds and a few showers, 75 degrees at 6.05. The prosecution filing their response after lawyers for Karen Reid file a motion to dismiss some charges. There's WBC's Brooke McCarthy. The jury unable to come to a decision in the Karen Reid murder trial. To continue to deliberate would be futile and only served to force us to compromise these deeply held beliefs. So Judge Beverly Canoni declared a missed trial. Following this, the Norfolk District Attorney's office said they would retry the case. Lawyers for Reid filing a motion saying they heard from two jurors in two sources that said they would have found her not guilty on two of the three charges. Those include second degree murder and leaving the scene. But the prosecution in a court filing calls us hearsay conjecture and legally inappropriate. The prosecution going on to say the jury's communication indicated an impasse on all charges. A hearing on the next steps in the case is set for July 22nd. Lawyers for Reid insist she's being framed. No matter how long it takes, no matter how long they keep trying, we will not stop fighting. We have no quit. Brooke McCarthy, WBC Boston's news radio. A new life sciences building in Somerville, not going up any time soon. The Globe reports the construction project at 15 McGrath Highway has been put on hold indefinitely. A spokesperson for the development team says it's because of a dramatic decrease in the demand for lab space. They say construction is paused until market conditions improve the development promise to bring 262,000 square feet of commercial space to the edge of Cambridge on the former site of the Save More Liquor location. President Biden on the campaign trail last night in Detroit, CBS's Autumn Pincher. The president took the stage with one message he wants all of America to know. A lot of speculation lately. What's Joe Biden going to do? Is he going to stay in the race? He's going to drop out. Here's mine. I am running and we're going to win. I'm not going to change that. In fact, just today, the mayor's poll released a national poll. It has me beating Trump 50 to 48. So far, about 20 House Democrats and one Democratic senator have publicly called on President Biden to step aside. The Republican National Convention takes place next week. Only half the ticket filled. ABC's Jonathan Carlin Milwaukee with thoughts on former President Trump's pick for VEP. Those that have been most thoroughly vetted were Bergham Vance and Marco Rubio, but Trump could decide to do something else. So I think he's going to draw this out as long as possible. He probably won't hear his pick until the convention is underway on Monday or Tuesday. Among those expected to speak during the convention, Donald Trump Jr., Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and Teamsters President John O'Brien.
