This is WBC, Boston's news video redefining local news. 82, Hazy Sunshine. It's 11 o'clock in Boston. Good morning. I'm Laurie Kirby. We begin this hour in Boston, where three people are shot in an MBTA commuter loft this morning. Two are critically wounded. Witnesses saw a dozen people crowding outside of Montello Station around 3 a.m., shots rang out. A black jeep was seen leaving the area. And a man and a woman were dropped off at the hospital. A third man came by ambulance. Again, so far, no arrest. And this story-- this is breaking news. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is suggesting it's still an open question whether President Biden should continue his re-election campaign. She would just ask her thoughts on Mr. Biden's political future during an appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe. It's up to the president to decide if he is going to run. We're all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short. The host pushed back, saying President Biden seems to have firmly made up his mind to stay in the race. He has said he has made the decision. He has said firmly this week, he is going to run. Do you want him to run? I want him to do whatever he decides to do. And that's the way it is, whatever he decides we're going. Pelosi added she wants those calling for President Biden to step aside to hold their comments until after the NATO summit this week in Washington. At that summit, the president will hold his first news conference since his disastrous debate performance. That news conference is scheduled for tomorrow. We are your breaking news station. We're streaming on the iHeart Radio app. A federal judge rules a planned protest that the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee will not be allowed near its location. We get more on that from CBS's Bruce Marcus. The coalition to march will not be allowed within five blocks of the convention. The judge says protecting the convention from terror threats and other potential dangers outweighs protesters' First Amendment rights. Omar Flores, co-chair for the protest group, disagrees with the ruling. Well, the city at this point may not have a legal obligation to give us the route that we're asking for. They do have a moral obligation. There's no legitimate reason to criminalize our protest. The protesters still plan to march to the convention using an alternative route. Bruce Marcus for CBS News, Eagle River, Wisconsin. It's worth it to be on the Cape Today. It's significantly cooler in the '70s in a lot of spots there. But all in all, the real feel is going to be anywhere from 90 to 100 degrees today. And in fact, I'm seeing here the temp Boston today and some of you, 90, 94 on the higher side, real feels again, 100 degrees. Watch and listen for showers and thunderstorms later on today, tonight, tomorrow, some showers early in other areas, South Coast and the Cape and Island. This forecast from AccuWeather calls for temps either at 90 or real feels in the '90s all the way into next week. There you have it. And I'm looking at the dew point right now at 75 Fahrenheit and the humidity is at 81, uncomfortable percent. A Canton police officer connected to the Karen Reed murder case is placed on leave. WBCTV's Tammy Mutasa says the suspension was announced last night by select board chair Michael Loughren listen in. Chief Raffity has placed Kevin Albert on paid administrative leave while on outside and please be quiet. The Canton police chief now says Kevin Albert, a Canton police officer and brother to Brian Albert, the homeowner where John O'Keece body was found, is now on paid administrative leave. Kevin Albert was placed on leave on June 13th and will remain on leave until the results of the investigation are provided by the outside independent investigator. While this announcement was a surprise to many, including the media, it also was kept secret apparently for weeks because we learned the Canton police chief placed Kevin Albert on paid leave nearly a month ago. The Mao State Police Union stands by disgraced trooper Michael Proctor in a new statement. They call his suspension without pay in the Reed case, disappointing. The statement goes on to say the union will never condone, however, the unacceptable language used in personal text messages sent by Proctor. A hazing investigation is now underway in the death of a Dartmouth University student. Their death of Dartmouth student Juan Zhang, prompting the school to suspend the fraternity and sororities police investigate where their hazing was a factor. Authorities in New Hampshire saying preliminary reports show alcohol may have been a factor in the 20 year olds death. Police say Zhang was last seen at a social gathering Saturday night after an extensive surge with drones and divers and underwater camera found his body Sunday evening. That was ABC's Trevor Alte. A British soft drinks tax is showing a reduction in sugar consumption in both kids and adults. Studies of the US cities that have implemented soda tax has found that any health impact was dented by consumers substituting other sugary foods and drinks instead. But this British study has found that the total amount of sugar consumed by children fell sharply within a year of its soda tax taking effect. Overall sugar intake from food and drinks fell from about 70 to about 45 grams a day in children from about 60 to 45 grams in adults still too high. But experts here call expanding the tax to include other high sugar drinks and food products, a no-brainer. Vicki Barker, CBS News, London.
