What's up, everyone? It's Noah Daniels, and we're here for another episode of the "Real Haunting's Podcast." On this episode, I'm very excited to introduce Sarah. She has a TikTok channel where she really takes you through kind of the latest and greatest and spooky content out on the interwebs and also shares some of her own personal stories. You can find her TikTok @ SarahBear. That's S-A-R-E-B-E-A-R-R-R. Thank you so much for coming on "The Podcast." - Thank you for having me. I'm very excited. - Yeah, absolutely. So we've been going through various people's stories who did the stitch with Danielle with the "Tell Me Your Ghost" story stitch that kind of went viral. You had one go really viral, like 3.4 million views. And I know you are really into true crime and spooky content in general. Where did your interest in the paranormal begin? - I honestly think it kind of started when I was younger because I have always been really afraid of the paranormal. When I was a little girl, I remember very specifically when I was in third grade, they had a little instructional informational video they played at our school to teach us about fire safety. And for whatever reason, they decided to use a vampire as like the person that told you about it, it was weird. That's just a whole nother story, but- - Was it like one, huh, huh? - Pretty much. Like that's the thing, like it wasn't actually scary, but any type of like mythical thing like that terrified me. I had to like go home for the rest of the day 'cause I was crying about it. I had such like a fear of anything paranormal like that. And I think, I don't really, I'm not scared of it anymore now. But when I was younger, it really terrified me. And then as I started getting older, I got really interested into horror movies. I love horror movies. And it started turning into more of like watching people on YouTube who go and like explore abandoned places and things like that. And then I just kind of thought, you know, I watch this stuff all the time. I could probably start talking about it myself because I've had a couple like weird things happen to me. And especially this story. So it kind of started from when I was young and snowballed into what it is now. - And we love to find out where our guests fall and what we call the believe-o-meter zero, meaning you don't believe in ghosts. And 10 ghosts are absolutely real. Where do you fall on that scale? - I'm probably at a nine. - So you said that, you know, you were having kind of this sort of reaction to vampires and various cryptids or creatures. What do you think it was that turned the page for you that took it from being very fearful to being more interested. And then, you know, even talking about it, was it just kind of maturing and taking control of that fear? Or what was it about it that did that for you? - I think maturity definitely had to do with it. You know, the older you get that just kind of is a thing of growing up as you start to not be fearful of the things you used to be anymore. But I mean, I'm a Christian and so I'm very, very rooted in my faith. So that really helps me just not to be afraid of the kind of weird things that are going on around me. I think I've realized if something weird is happening, if I just don't give it the attention at once, it will eventually stop. And I think that's something I kind of had to obviously learn the hard way after this thing happened to me. - Yeah, I used to be really afraid of bugs and during an improv show where we would get punishments or whatever, I told them that I had brought some of those like cooked crickets or whatever, you can get in like the candy store. And I was like, I'm going to conquer this fear on stage in front of like a hundred people. And so it came around for me to get my punishment and they were like, you got to eat a cricket. And the audience was just kind of like, what? I thought it would get like this big laugh. Like me, 'cause I mean, I put it in my mouth, chewed it up, awful, terrible decision as far as taste. It was just very dry and yuck. But I'm no longer really afraid of bugs anymore. Like something about knowing that I could just eat it. It really just took that fear away, was not a payoff, comedically. A dog audience was just more like, what is happening than anything else? I think there is something though about maturing and kind of owning that stuff. And like you've done turning it into an actual interest. So you had your story that went viral about going in the cave. Was there anything before that supernatural that took place in your life? - Weird stuff. Like one time I remember it was just me and my mom at the house I grew up in. And she was in a completely different room, nowhere near me. And I heard someone whistling like a nursery rhyme and I thought it was her. So I didn't even pay attention to it. And then she eventually walked out later and I was like, what were you humming? I can't remember the name of that song. And she was like, what are you talking about? I wasn't humming anything. And I said, no, you had to have been because like we had a dog and a cat. And I was like, they went over there to see what you were doing. I'd watch them walk over there. And she was like, that wasn't me. You must have been hearing stuff. And I was like, no, I did not hear this. I remember it vividly. Like I can, I heard it behind me. So that was weird. Maybe I was hearing things I don't think I was, but like small stuff, weird things like that happening. Stuff where like, if you thought hard enough about it, you could probably explain it away. But nothing to the degree of what happened to me when I was in college. Yeah, so let's jump into that. How old were you when you were in college when this happened? 19 or 20, I think 20. Okay. And the group of friends that you went and did this with, did any of them share your interest in the paranormal or spooky or were you kind of the lone ranger of that group? No, there was a couple other girls that did, but even so, I think we like knew like, oh, this place has like a reputation or whatever. But when we went there, we weren't even like looking to find something. We just wanted to go hit up some places before a lot of us left. All right. Well, yeah. Walk us through, set up the environment the day and then take us in that cave with you. I believe it was May. Yeah, it was about May. Classes were getting out for that semester. It was my first semester in college and I was leaving for a different college the next year. And a few of the people in our group work. So we decided earlier in the day we had gone out to eat and we were just kind of hanging out at the dorm and we decided, all right, we're gonna go and hit up some of the like major sightseeing things in the area, stuff that a lot of people talk about. So in Pittsburgh, the one of the biggest things is Mount Washington 'cause it's like the incline and you can do an overlook of the city. And then we had the fountain of youth on there. And we decided we were gonna go to fountain of youth because it was right by the college. We were gonna go there first. It was, I wanna say five to 10 minutes from the college. I think it is. It's not far at all. And then we would go downtown to go to Mount Washington. So we're piling into one of our friends' cars. She had kind of like moved. She had a van and she had taken out like most of the seats so we could all fit in there. Which was like a giant, a giant thing filled with like eight, nine of us. So we get there, we park. It's probably like eight, 30, nine o'clock. It's not super late at this point. We park and it's in like a public park. It's called North Park. It's like as you're driving in to get there, to get where you would go to like the parking area and all that stuff. And it's just all you do is pull off the side of the road and then you just walk across a creek and it's there. So that was a little scary. The fact that it's so easily accessible. I think that might also be why we weren't scared going in there because I just don't think we thought like, we're going to like a remote area. It just seemed like a safe place that you can go check out and get back in the car. So we get out and we all bring our phones, have our flashlights on with our phones, pile out of the car and then there is like a little creek bed and you just kind of jumped over it and then it would be right in front of you. So everybody did that. We all got there. We helped people over the creek if they couldn't jump or walked over a log. So we get there and we're all just kind of standing outside of it, looking at the outside of it. It's really a beautiful structure. It's essentially carved out of like rock and it says fountain of youth on it, like carved into the rock and it's like an archway. And then you go inside the archway and there's like a tiny little square like that. And then going into that is where the well would have been, it used to be in there. You'd have to like walk kind of crouch your way in there and get in. So they would use that as like their community well. So a few of us decided to like start taking pictures of the outside of it and just like get some pictures of like our friends in front of it, throwing up a peace sign, just hang like just, you know, a basic thing. Someone said, I'm going to try and go in here or somebody go in here. And the issue was that it's a small hole. Like it's not big enough for somebody who's five, six or bigger to get in there comfortably. So I had a friend who was a little bit shorter, two friends who were a little bit shorter and pretty skinny. So they were able to like kind of get their way in there. They just wanted to see like what was in there because you could kind of, you could look into it and there was like rocks and some water and they looked like there was a bend that you could kind of go around. They wanted to go in there and I was like, okay, go ahead. And so they just went in there, two of them. Nobody thought anything different of it. They took their phones and everything. And the rest of us are standing outside of the archway. So we can still hear them in there and just kind of have to yell to talk to them. We're standing out there taking pictures. I'm taking solvies with people and we're getting ready to be like, okay, guys, let's go 'cause we have somewhere else to be. And I have my phone up like this to take a picture and it died. And it was at 80% knowing that that's a very common thing is they zap your battery usage so they have energy. So when that happened, it popped into my head. Oh, this could be bad. Like there could be something about to happen. But then I thought, oh, I don't know. Maybe it's because my phone's old. Like I was trying to calm myself down so I didn't freak out and everyone's sort of freaking out. So my phone died. Yeah, it was like 80%. And I said, oh guys, my phone just died. And somebody else was like, somebody cross away was like, yeah, mine just died too. And I thought it was pretty fully charged. So as we're saying that, then we hear from somebody, one of the girls in the well says, yells out to us, it sounds like there's something moving around in here. And I said, okay, then get out. Come out here right now, because at that point, my thought was still, okay, well, it's like an animal and they're gonna get bit or something. And then as I'm saying, come out of there, right behind me, like right here in this ear, like they're standing behind me. I heard a growl, like a deep guttural growl. And I've never heard anything like that before. And I never want to again. It was, it was, it was like, when you heard it, you were like, oh, this is something different. This isn't your run of the mill ghost. Yeah, it's growling in my ear. And I said, what was that? And then I'm saying that while they are coming out of the little cubbyhole that they had gone into and they're running and I start running and we all start running or just running back to the car, nobody said anything except for me saying like, what was that? And then we're all running back to the car. We got back in the car. Nobody said like a word. Everybody just hustled back to the car. We got back in the car and we start driving off. And I said, did anybody else hear that? And immediately everyone's saying, oh, the growl? Without me saying, oh guys, I heard a growl. And I said, yeah, it sounded like it was coming from right behind me. The girl standing across from me when that happened. So like we're standing outside of it and I'm over here and she's over here. She said, no, it sounded like it was coming from behind me. Ooh. And then the girls in the well said, I'm confused because we heard it inside the well. Like it was around the corner in the well. And that's when I started freaking out. Like so we're all hearing this same guttural growl and we're thinking that it's right behind us and it's just like surrounding everybody there at the same time, even though that's pretty much impossible. So we're all sitting there being like, okay. And then also halfway to Mount Washington, our phones are turning back on. Like there's no issue with the battery or anything. I turn my phone back on, it's still at like 75%. And that was strange to me. It was almost like it used it. So it could do that growl. And then was like, okay, that's all I needed. So we're in the car on our way to Mount Washington. We just stopped talking about it because we were all freaking ourselves out. And we were like, okay, let's go here because we know it's in public, it's in the city. We're not gonna get scared. We go up there, we take some pictures, get a group picture. And then all hop back in the car, drive back to the dorm. At this point, it's probably 10, 10.30 or so. And we have about like a 20 minute drive to get from where we were at Mount Washington back to our dorms. The whole ride back, nobody's really talking about what happened. And I think it's just because we were driving at night. So that was still scary to us also. Went to wait till we were in a room with four four walls to talk about something. So we got back the girls who were commuters in the area kind of said like, bye, we'll see you guys. When we see you guys, we kind of set our goodbyes. And then the girls who lived in the dorm. So it was myself, my roommate, and two other girls went back into our dorms. Now me and my roommate shared a room and then one of the other girls who had gone into the well and another girl who had just gone with us lived in the same building, different dorm. So we get back, we split up, me and my roommate got our room, they go to their room. Nobody's talked about it since, we're kind of pretending it didn't happen. We get back into the room and I just tell my roommate, I'm gonna jump in the shower and I'm changing. I'm in front of the mirror changing, getting ready to get in the shower. And in the mirror on my shoulder, this one, there is a handprint like this right here. Like when someone grabs you hard and you have those white marks left over, that's what it was. But it wasn't going away. As I stared at it, it was staying there. Almost like there was still pressure on it. Now I couldn't feel anything, but I could see it in the mirror that was on my body. And I screamed and I turned to my roommate and I said, is this on me? Like am I crazy? There's a handprints on me. And she said, no, there's handprints on you. I see that and I'm watching them and they're just kind of staying there. There is just a full handprint on my shoulder like someone's grabbing me. And I texted our group chat and I said, hey, I just wanted to let you guys know I found this on me. You should probably get check yourselves or have somebody check you to see if you have something like a mark on you. A few minutes later, I'm getting a call from one of the girl who went into the well who lives in the same dorm building as me. And she said, you need to come down to my room right now. And I said, okay. And I booked it out of there and I ran down to her room. And I opened the door and she said, look on my back because it feels like it's burning. And she lifted up the back of her shirt and right down the center of her back were three scratch marks, like a claw mark. And the middle scratch was still bleeding, not a lot, but to the point where, you know, it would get a little scab on it. And I looked at her and I said, yeah, you have marks on your back. And she said, I didn't feel this when I was in the car, when we were there or anything. After you texted us and said to look, I started to feel this like burning. And I said, okay, let's go to the common room 'cause I don't wanna be in either of our rooms right now. I wanna be in a public place. I grabbed her and we went to the common room and kind of sat there trying to figure out what we were gonna do. And then that's when I was like, I have to call my dad 'cause my dad, there's my cat also, by the way. - It scared me. I was like, what is this? - Yeah, they've been running around the whole time. So I was like, yeah, I have to call my dad 'cause my dad, the pastor, I was like, I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing at this point. There's things touching me, like we're hearing growling. I felt way out of my depth. So I called him and we ended up just kind of sitting and praying and waiting in that room for 10 minutes until like we could feel the heaviness shift. Like it just felt like, okay, you're safe now. It just, you could feel like the energy change essentially. And then I said, I think I'm good. Are you good? And she said, yeah, I think I'm good. We said, we split up. I went back in to my roommate. She's like in bed already. I did end up taking my shower, got in bed and just kind of stayed late in my bed and stared at the ceiling because I was like, how am I supposed to go to bed after everything that just happened? Because at the moment I felt safe, it felt like whatever that heavy energy was was gone, but it was still scary. Like, is it gonna come back? If I close my eyes, am I gonna wake up? And, you know, I'm gonna see something. So I kind of just laid there and thought like that until I ended up just eventually falling asleep because I was so exhausted from the last couple of hours. Went to bed, woke up the next morning. I'm texting with my friend. I said, hey, are you okay? And she said, yeah, I think so. And then we ended up kind of hanging out later in the day and I was like, let me check your back. And there were still marks on her back. It wasn't like, you know, it wasn't like the day before where it was like red and there was blood. It was just like, it looked like three scars. And I'm pretty sure, I haven't talked to her in a while, but I'm pretty sure after like a day or two, it just completely went away. - Wow. - So I don't know if she got the brunt of it because she was in the well, because the other girl in the well didn't get it. But the way that it whispered in this ear and there was a hand print on this one almost makes me feel like it was leaning over my shoulder like this and whispering in my ear. First off, I love that you love horror movies and you literally, like you and your friends, set yourselves up for the beginning of a horror movie. Yeah. What could happen if a gang pool of college kids get in a van and drive down to the cave? Yep. Oh, let's go in the cave. I'm like, I do like that you were like, get out. And they were like, you all shared this communal haunting. Do you know if there was any lore around that cave regarding spirits or, you know, demonic activity? I looked it up because after a few months after, once I calmed down, I looked it up. And if I remember correctly, I think people just kind of said like there would sometimes be a mist around it and a creepy feeling, but I couldn't find anything close to what happened to us that night. And I think that's kind of also why we were like, not that scared to go there at night because there wasn't any like, you go there, you're going to run a demon. We just didn't even consider something else could be out there waiting. Do you know if that cave is still standing? Oh, yeah. Yep, it's still there. What do you do edit my video that went viral and she went in and checked it out. And it's still there and it's still doing good. There's still graffiti on it. Still doing good. It's still haunting people. She go in. She didn't. She kind of stuck her phone. She walked up in the arch and stuck her phone up to the little hole and you could see in it, but she didn't go into it. Thank God, because yeah. You personally, what do you think that was that interacted with you all? A demon for like four sure, because I've never felt that kind of energy in my life before and I haven't since. It was just something that just felt very wrong and it was like everything in my body was like, you need to get out of here now. Whatever you need to do, go. Like I knew that if something was going to like hinder me from getting out of there, I was going to just do whatever I had to do to get over whatever was going on. And especially with her back with the three scratches, that's like very common with demons. And I think that's probably when it solidified for me that this wasn't some like random bear in the woods growling. First of all, it didn't even sound like that, but-- Also, that's horrifying too. Right, exactly. I think either way, that's terrifying. Well, the fact that you all heard it, it seems like at the same time as if it was up on you, it's super weird. I mean, that definitely sounds like the paranormal ilk. Did anybody ever go back to the cave or was it just a one-off situation? None of us ever did that I'm aware of. I moved out of that area. I haven't been up there since. And I know some of the people that still live there, nobody's ever really gone back there. And I mean, they might go back to the park in general, but I'm pretty sure they stay away from that specific spot. And with the amount of views your story got on TikTok, what was some of the most interesting comments you got about your experience? I mean, I definitely-- there was a couple people on there that said, this is why people activities. And I was like, yeah, you're right. It is. Those made me laugh, but I think, honestly, the most interesting ones on there were people saying they've been there and they thought it was creepy too. And there was one person I think who had said, like I was there and it was daytime and I still felt weirded out when I was there. But then on the opposite side, I've gotten people commenting and saying like, this is just a historical side. There's nothing there. You're always going to have the two sides of people wanting to believe it or people not wanting to believe it. But honestly, there's also been a lot of people commenting and saying like, oh, I'm definitely hitting this place up. Like I'm going here, I need to go check it out. And every time someone said that, I said, okay, but like, please be careful. Like I don't recommend going there, but if you're going to go, be safe about it. - Yeah, I like that you have to give a warning about that. You're like, I do not endorse this behavior. Please continue at your own will. - Nope. - Have you, I know we talked about looking into that area specifically as far as like, you know, research online or what have you. Did you get a chance to kind of pilfer through the internet regarding, you know, a spirit or entity or demon that portrays itself in that way? Did you find any lore about people being grabbed and howled? 'Cause it's like, it's a pretty freaky experience. - Oh yeah. And I haven't, I'll be honest with you, I haven't looked into it since a couple months after when it happened. And I couldn't find anything. I couldn't find anything about, you know, some type of like specific entity being there. I couldn't really see anything like that. And I think that's kind of what made it all the more terrifying because it was almost like, it doesn't just stay there. It just kind of was out and about and saw us almost. Like it was like an opportunity or something. I think that's what really freaked me out it because I think a lot of the time when I think of like haunted locations, I'm thinking, whatever it is, is staying there. - Yeah. - And this kind of made me question, this thing probably doesn't even stay here. And if it does, I don't know what it is and nobody's talking about it. And the fact kind of was, you know, marking us afterwards. That kind of like prohibited me from ever doing any type of like actual true ghost investigation because I thought, we went out here just to hang out and this happened. What's gonna happen if I'm going somewhere and asking for it. And, you know, like inviting it almost. So I don't know. I have no clue what that thing was. I mean, I think it was something demonic or malevolent, but I also haven't heard of other people being up there and having something like that happen. - Yeah, the intrusive thought I keep getting in my head is that somebody is buried in that cave or something. You know, there were some kind of negative situation that took place. And that's also kind of where you go when you hear these stories. So it's not, you know, I'm not in tune with the universe getting a message. That's just my pessimistic ghost brain, I guess. Well, thank you so much for sharing that story with our podcast audience. That was really a scary one. I'm glad that it's not something that followed you from there on. It seems like you were able to cut ties with whatever that was. I would love for you to tell our audience about your TikTok channel. I know you have a deep rooted interest in like true crime and paranormal and you share a lot of goodies on that channel. You know, I've certainly been tuned in to some other podcast or other even clips on other things regarding stories. And you always have a great way to present that spooky information. So can you tell us about your channel and how our audience can find it? - Yeah. So I have a TikTok and I just kind of post on there true crime content, paranormal content, conspiracies, weird, creepy stuff caught on tape, just thrown into one big TikTok channel. And you can find me at Sarah Bear on TikTok. It's S-A-R-E-B-E-A-R-R underscore. That is my username. I started with my TikTok all the way back probably closer to 2020. And I remember posting one of the first things I posted about was Deat Love Pass and that weird, that whole weird thing. And since then it's gone crazy and we've been talking about crimes. We've been talking about the paranormal like ghosts and hauntings and cryptids. I do love a good cryptid. Talk about those a lot too. So yeah, absolutely go over and check it out. If that's stuff you're interested in and I'll be posting a lot. As more stuff happens I will be posting and I try to keep everything updated and new so that we're not falling behind in the current events of the crime world, paranormal world, et cetera. - Is there a current topic or story you've heard that's been kind of tickling your brain that maybe you've shared on your TikTok? - Yeah, so actually I posted this I think yesterday or two days ago it was a guy who had gone camping and he went stealth camping and he does that a lot so he just takes like the bare necessities and he had gone out and camped and he was going to set up his camp and he noticed like a tent that was broken down and covered in leaves and he was like, "Oh, that's ominous." And then set up his tent there anyway. And he's there at night and he turns his camera on and he says, "There's somebody walking around outside my tent." And you can hear in the video that someone's walking around outside and he's yelling back at them and just doing all the stuff that it's like, "Why are you doing that?" And come to find out like he goes through this whole thing of having to, they're collapsing the tent on him and he's trying to get out of it and he's running from them in the middle of the woods, he doesn't know where he is. It's very Blair Witch is what it reminds me of. He kind of just runs to the main road until he gets to back to his car and he's running from them in the woods. He's saying, "I can hear them, they're behind me." And it was definitely like a person I think because he said, "I can somebody's smoking a cigarette "and I can smell it and I don't know where they are." So I think that one freaked me out because a lot of people had commented and said, "Oh, maybe it was trespassing, it was the property owner." So the property owner, why isn't him just saying, "Hey buddy, you have to move." - They're just like, "Call the police." - Right. - If you're so angry that you would go through collapsing a tent, it seems like maybe-- - And then like chasing them through the woods. - Yeah. So and he never really figured out who they were, he never got like a clear visual of them. He could just kind of like see their figures, he went back in the morning, all his stuff was still there too. Like they didn't steal anything. So it was a weird, it's a weird. I think that's something that I'm kind of hooked on right now. People going camping and just like, "I don't think they're prepared. "They're not ready for it. "What if we run into somebody out here? "What are we gonna do?" - That's wild, especially that he captured footage of, you know, as all that was taking place and a tent collapsing down on you would be awful. - Yeah, like it would have vulnerable position to be in. - Right. - With somebody doing that, it reminds me of when I was a kid, I was in Boy Scouts and I don't know how this happened. I'm originally from like a really small town, and in Scouts you have different levels, which is like kind of just the age, basically. I think when we were in it and I, or when I was in it rather, I think it was like we blows and, oh, couldn't have been wolf pack, but that's what goes into my head. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I say that to say. That created, when we would go camping, it created like a natural division between the different aged boys, basically, and that you would just kind of terrorize the people that were younger than you. And they older kids, they have bought like, you know those little locks you can get for your suitcase or backpack? - Oh, yeah, mm-hmm. - So it was like a combination lock like that, and they put that on one of my friend's tents on the zipper. - Oh, no. - I mean, it's funny to look back on, but it wasn't funny at the time, and then they pulled all his poles out of the tent, or you know, out of the ground, so the tent collapsed down on him, and he, I just remember, it looked like the, like the tent turned into a ball, and it was just wrong. - Oh, no! - I can't take it out on the thing. - Kids are awful, young 10-aged boys already. (laughing) So with that, I'm Noah Daniels. - I'm Sarah.
