There was a popular song called "Create in me a clean heart, oh Lord" by Marantha Singers that I loved so much but when you look at the lyrics of that song from the lens of the New Covenant, it is actually a song that can put a veil over your heart. It can limit you from enjoying the covenant of grace. Why? Because this song has its source in Psalm 51:10-12 - a psalm of David when the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba. Why was it wrong? Was it not written by David - a man after God's own heart? It was - but it was based on old covenant realities.
