Joshua 1:2: Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.  

To arise is different from to go. This word arise is from the Hebrew verb “koom” and it means to standup, to get up, to stir up and it is essentially an instruction to get ready to fulfill a command, somewhat similar to the military command “attention.” Here Joshua received a commission – a call to serve. 

That vision in your heart that never leaves, that call of God upon your life, that stirring deep in your heart that never let go, is a call for you to arise. To arise means you are getting ready for action. When you arise, there is an imperative of follow-up action.
