[MUSIC] >> And good morning and welcome to another edition of Southern Fairways Radio Show presented by our friends at McConnell Automotive, the number one GMC dealer in the state of Alabama. They're located just east of I-65 on Dauphin Street. Right there in Mobile, you can check them out online on www.Connellautomotive.com. We're broadcasting live from our shrixon studios right here. In lower Alabama, as I'm your host Randy Bergen, joined by Oracle TV's Doug Holton. Doug, always good to have you in the house, my man. >> Randy, it is great to be here. Beautiful Saturday morning and you know what happens next week. >> What's that? >> It's media days. >> Yeah. >> And Dallas, Texas. >> And we're going to talk about that. We sure are, but right now, as we do this time of the year, we'll love it. Because our good friend, PGA Teaching Professional and the Director of Golf at Quirky Golf Club, in Fair Hope, Alabama. Sweet-winged Bobby Hall is in Lake Tahoe for the American Century Championship. Of course, he's one of the rules officials. And Bobby, what is this, year 28 or 29? >> 30. >> 30, oh my goodness, wow. >> 30, 30, it's been a long time. It's a great day, it's a little overcast out here today. We're worried about a few little showers this afternoon, but we don't expect any lightning. For those listening, you turn on NBC today, you'll see some of the biggest celebrities and stars in sports and entertainment. I'm standing here watching one of our great friends, Larry the Cable Guy warming up, and it's just a little ugly, exciting to see it. [LAUGH] Out Marcus Allen is here, Jim McMahon. Joe Seizman's doing interviews down at the Inza Range. Brian Erlacher just walked by and chipped my hand, Jack Wagner's here. There's just a plethora of celebrities and just fine folks. Hey, we got something interesting, Randy, that's going to happen. I don't think it will air today, but it will air later. Many of you have heard about host Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show versus DJ Khaled, the entertainer and DJ. Are going to play a golf match this afternoon at 3 p.m. And NBC's going to film it. And it's a match between Fallon and Khaled for four holes. They're going to play 17 in 18, 17 in 18. And then NBC's going to put a production show together about it. It'll be a lot of fun with a lot of laughs. And some of the other celebrities will be out there with them. So in the future, I'm not sure when it'll broadcast, but I'm sure it'll be pretty soon. But Jimmy Fallon will be here today and just a host of great folks. Here comes Larry, the cable guy now. >> [LAUGH] >> I'm getting to say a few words. Can you hang on? >> Yeah, I got, I got to apologize to him anyway, so. >> Larry, with Randy, wow, Randy Daggonberg. >> [LAUGH] >> Larry, what have you been doing, my man? >> Well, first off, I want to know we have $300 you owe me. >> [LAUGH] >> It's in the mail. It is in the mail. Hey Larry, I got to tell you something, I have to apologize to you. I was thinking about this yesterday. A couple of years ago, when you were down in Orlando playing in the tournament down there, and you had asked for a rules official to come over, Bobby wasn't available. And if you remember, I came over there and you asked if you could get a relief from the, from the car path, do you remember that? >> Man, I'm very good. >> I told you no, because if you're right handed, you could have it. But you were left handed, so you couldn't have it, so. >> Yeah, I know I do remember that. >> I do remember that, and I'll be honest with you, the bad Bobby wasn't there. We just made up this week, I was mad at him ever since. >> [LAUGH] >> Well, don't be mad at him, don't be mad at him. >> He's always there for me, and then I said, then you got this guy, come over, it's supposedly a friend of yours, wouldn't let me take the relief. >> I put in, I wrote a letter to the clubhouse, NBC, I wrote a letter and everything. >> [LAUGH] >> That's probably why. >> I thought that's why I'm not bad. >> Listen, I know, I made sure I had you banned from that tournament, and I unfollowed you on all the social media. >> [LAUGH] >> My goodness. >> Hey, how's your golf game? >> It's getting a little bit better for the first time in 12 years. I finished in positive numbers yesterday, but it's only two. >> Good. >> So if I double today is coming out of the coming out of the gate, I'm back to zero. >> Well, you can do it. >> Hopefully I won't do it. Yeah, no, it's been fun, we have a good time out here. >> Well, I know you do. >> You know, he's awesome, I love hanging out with him, and every now and after nobody around, he'll kick the ball, and he bounds for me, he's gonna help out. >> [LAUGH] >> No, nobody's listening, nobody's listening to this at all. So I always get from a relationship. >> No, he's right. >> Yeah, no Bobby's great. You know, I met him first time I heard my Bobby. He was going through my garbage at an RV park, and I'll tell you what I pretended to like him ever since. >> [LAUGH] >> Hey, now look, you came over here. I think last year you were down here on the Gulf Coast. And you said we're gonna play golf the next time you're here, so let's go. >> Hey, when I'm there, hey, Bobby, I let Bobby know, and then I'd love to play golf with you. Let's do it, I love it, let's do it. >> Well, we'd love to do that for sure, Larry. Look, you go out and have a great time today, and let me see if this would ring bells for you, go low. >> Go low, that's what I'm gonna try to do. >> There you go, there you go. >> All right. >> Well, look, hey, have fun. Thanks for hanging out with us, Larry. >> You got it, and anybody that doesn't like listening to Randy is a communist. >> [LAUGH] >> We're in the very middle of the cable guy. >> Start of your morning. >> There you go, boy, I don't know if it gets any better than that right there. So you start your day out with Larry the cable guy. You know you got a chuckle or two in there, for sure, Bobby. >> We'll listen, I'll talk to Peter, Jacob, and he'll be on later and give us some insight into the tour and what's going on there. Now, I'll see who else we might pop on later in the day. >> Yeah, no, that'll be great. Hey, by the way, got to mention, you had something that happened yesterday. I think you had a hole in one last year, Steph Curry got it on number 17. But yesterday, you had a Hall of Fame NFL Hall of Fame, Tim Brown, makes the hole in one right there on number 12. And well, I'll tell you what, he got a nice little prize for that. >> He sure did, yeah, last year, Steph Curry's was on seven. And that was great, and then he eagled the last hole to win the tournament. Steph will be out playing in the Olympics. So he will not be here to defend his title, unfortunately. But I think it's important he gets that gold medal for the basketball team. And yes, Tim Brown, our good friend, John Drago, rules official, and head of the CJ Byron Nelson. He sets pins on the backside, and it was a really easy pin down into what we call the bowl on number 12. It's down in the lower part, Tim Brown won a 2024 Mastercraft boat. So he'll sail away into the sunset in about a $80,000 boat. So we're happy for a chance. >> Wow. >> Yeah, there's a lot of other prizes at 17 to make a hole in one. You win a million dollars for your prize. >> Good stuff. Hey, it looks like, all right, so leading the way right now at the American situation, Doug's got something for you out of the line, is at 24 points. Marty Fish, your buddy there, huge tennis guy at 23, and then a friend, Derek Lowe at 21. So, and John Smoltz, not far away. John there at 18, go ahead, Doug. >> Yeah, I always like to get Bobby's take on the weather forecast when he goes out to Lake Tahoe, because Bobby, for all of us, sweltering in the heat here, tell us to high and low for today at Lake Tahoe where you are. >> Well, it's been pretty hot. It's been close to 90. Of course, we don't have the humidity. The sun's been shining, but yesterday afternoon is a little overcast. We had a little shower late in the afternoon, and this morning it's overcast. I'm in a jacket feeling nice and cool and comfy. I'd say it's about 59, 70 degrees. It's not going to get any warmer today, it's going to cool down, which is great. But it's overcast, we do anticipate maybe some showers at two or three o'clock. So, I hope we finish on time and get out of the rain. >> And a fire pit tonight? >> Well, yeah, that could happen a nice cigar, a glass of bourbon in it. This fire side would be fantastic. Hey, we have some new celebrities you haven't seen before. We've had Miss Bear and her cubs have been trouncing the golf course around host 12 and five. We almost had to stop play so she could get her cubs across the fairway. And along the route, they took some of the marshals bags that have food in it for their snacks during the day. And so, we had Bear rolling in the bunker. >> What's the rolling on that? >> Stay away, stay away, but it's pretty fun out here. Everybody's having a good time. >> Hey, Bobby, I've got you for about another minute here real quick. I want to ask you, Tony Romo, who always plays very well out there, I think, has even won out there once. What's going on with him? He looks like he's struggling just a little bit. >> He is struggling. I mean, Larry the cable guy would have parred the last -- excuse me. If Charles Barkley would have parred his last hole yesterday, Romo and Barkley would have been paired together. But Barkley picked up and, unfortunately, doubled over the last hole, but we were talking about pairing them together for the event. Romo's just having a bad day. I would give you a golf tip right now. Tony Romo plays very, very, very slow. And I think it hurts his game. He just -- he takes too many practice swings, he just -- it takes a minute, two minutes, sometimes for him to hit a shot, folks, that's not good. Get in your rhythm, get up to the ball, make up your mind, and hit it. The faster you play, not fast fast, but just watch your pace of play, within 40 seconds, you should be able to hit a shot and go on down the fairway. He's very slow, very deliberate, it wears on some of the other players from time to time. Tony's a very nice man, we all respect him, great football player, but I would not follow his pre-shot routine. So he's been having a bad time. Well, Bobby, you look, hey, man, we're going to take a time out, we're going to talk with you at the bottom of the hour, right? Yeah, right. Peter Jacobson. Okay. All right, very good. All right. Well, thank you, brother. We'll take a quick time out. Come back. David Musil's up with us. We got some golf to talk with him. All that happens right here on Southern Fairways. Hello from beautiful Lake Tahoe, this is Brett Baer with Fox News Channel. For your up-to-date golf and sports information news, please continue to listen to FM 106.5 and Southern Fairways radio show with your host, Randy Bergen, Doug Holden, Matt Brant, and Sweet Swing and Bobby Hall. Have a blessed day. Keep a fair-balanced and unafraid, and by the way, Roll Tide and War Eagle. Wow. He got them all in there. Got them, got them all in there. He must be a TV guy. They must be. You must be. Great to have Brett Baer there. All right. Hey, welcome back to Southern Fairways. Do you hear a little bit of Scottish music because they're playing the Genesis Scottish Open? Right. And Robert McIntyre, he'll be leading with Ludwig Adeburg. The left hander. He's the left hander, right? He is left. He's pretty good. I mean, he was five-under yesterday. Yeah, watched him a little bit yesterday. So very good. Very good. But Ludwig. How about that? Ludwig. I'm going to tell you something. Ludwig, he's playing some pretty double good golf. That may be your British Open guy. It could be a very good pick, no doubt about it. Let's go to our Shrickson guest line and welcome and a good friend and partner of ours. He is the general manager of Glen Lake's golf club in Foley, Alabama. Mr. David Mugell on the line with us. David, how are you doing, my man? Doing great, Randy. Hope you and Doug are doing well today. I'd like y'all having a good show. Yeah, we're excited about it. It's always fun. Bobby's out in Lake Tahoe and I had Larry the cable guy on a little while ago and we'll have Peter Jacobson coming up right after you this morning. So yeah, I always have fun doing that. But hey, you got a lot going on out at Glen Lake's, of course, Southern Fairways Golf Tour is out there tomorrow. I have our, this will be our sixth event of the season, so I'm excited to get out there. I appreciate it, Randy, that you guys, you, Joe Johnson, just do a fantastic job of running that tour. And we're just so excited. He said he got, looks like about 90 players tomorrow for nine o'clock shotgun and gives me a chance to kind of encourage any of our listeners out there. If you're looking for a quality event to play in at any level, any handicap level, that the Southern Fairways Tour is a place for you. It's not a light scratch tour or not to eliminate that one, but it gets further, not just the sharpshooter for anybody out there, and you play in a professional type event at an amateur level. Check's in the mail. Check is in the mail there, David. Hey, I want to, first off, I want to ask you how the course is and what the, what the stamp is on the, on the greens and then I want to get into some football with you. All right, right now the golf course is in great shape and it's just great for growing grass right now. It's with the hot temperatures and the mix with the rain. I've struggled a little bit with the pace of the greens with the showers that we've had. The grass has just grown so fast. Got a lot of grass out there and they're rolling it about eight and a half on the stamp. It should be a great day for golf. Fairways are absolutely perfect, able to get the carts out on the fairways and it should be a great day tomorrow. And I'm going to give a little shout out to Mark Wise that's playing on your tour notes from Tom coming from Thomasville, a game of lessons this week and he is playing your event Sunday. So he's going to be my, I'm betting on Mark. Yeah. Oh, okay. He's coming a long way to play with me too or so he's going to do it. Maybe I need to lay a little money on him as well. So may do that. Hey, hey, let's talk a little, let's talk a little football course kicks off. I think we're about a month in Doug, what a month and a half away before tomeats leather and of course you're a big Georgia fan. We got that smart guy coming up Monday, I think, right? Kirby. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Down in Dallas. I'll tell you what. SCC media days. Right. SCC media days. Yes. Yeah. A lot happening, a lot of excitement looking forward to that also to hear what all these different coaches have to say about the changes with the SCC, with Texas, Oklahoma, the, you know, the expanded format on the, on the playoffs. Just so many things happening with college football and so much excitement. I, you know, Georgia really looks good. You know, difficult for these coaches today of, you know, players don't perform or don't get on the field. They'll take off and leave you. That's just a part of today's game. And I think Georgia is going to have a great season starting off with Clemson to start off the season. But the SCC schedule would be expanded now with Texas and Oklahoma that nobody's going to be able to dodge them. Everybody's got to play them and it should be an exciting year. So one thing for Georgia, you've got to returning quarterback and Carson Beck. I think he's probably going to be one of the SCC's top quarterbacks, obviously. I think he's going to be one of the Heisman candidates coming right out of the gate. And if you really look at his statistics last year compared to how he was, the steps and Bennett, the previous, that, you know, Carson Beck didn't make a whole lot of mistakes. I mean, good numbers at a great year. And I think that he is going to be, I think he's a pro prospect as well. But I think he's going to have a great year and I think he's going to be right at the top, you know, depending on how Georgia does. Well, and we know that do you guys have done? No, I was just going to say it seems to be a winning formula for Georgia with that kind of quarterback. They've done very well. But David, what do you see is Georgia? I was just thinking getting into that territory like Alabama was in or still is in where you get to the top. But then you have to stay at the top. How hard is that to do? And is that where you see Georgia right now? You know, I think it's one you have to ask Nick Saban that, you know, that he, as far as with the changes that he has seen, you know, toward the end, you have the end of his career at Alabama that, you know, you do have, you know, some key players to leave to go to other places. You also have some key players that come in that you can pick up on the transfer portal. So he can go both ways on you too. And I think that the team like Clemson is struggling with not using the transfer portal like they can. You know, if you're going to lose them, you also need to be able to pick them up too to be able to add to those holes and those gaps because that's something Georgia's been able to do. Places where they're weak, you know, it's very attractive just like it has always been for Alabama for players to transfer. Look at the number of NFL players that are going from Georgia and from Alabama and LSU to where they're going in the NFL and that, you know, it makes it a lot easier for them to be able to, you know, technically recruit, you know, from other teams or players that aren't getting, without applying time that they feel that they should. But the recruiting is so strong for Georgia right now, very similar way like you talked about with Alabama. You've got, you know, when you go to second string, you go to third string and you still see fast and big and, you know, they're very, very deep and when you have those injuries, you've got players to come right in and you don't miss the beat. We're visiting with David Musil right here on Southern Fairways. One of the things that we see, you said Georgia will start out with Clemson, of course they'll play in Atlanta on August the 31st, ETN, Trevor ETN, who played at Florida, transfers to Georgia, so that's going to be kind of an interesting mix whenever his older brother played at Clemson, how do you think his heart flows? Yeah, interesting to see that right, you know, because that's where, you know, Georgia losing some players to the draft, losing some players to graduating and then being able to recruit in a player, an ETN, it's a, you know, a great player, a great running back and, you know, you look at where, you look at where it, again, be able to fill those holes and yeah, that Clemson's got to feel bad that they weren't weren't able to get him in the transfer portal and he goes with his brother to stand out, it was a stand out there at Clemson, but yeah, that's going to fill a big gap for Georgia right there in the running game. David, let me ask you a quick, talking about Clemson, kind of what's going on with them. I mean, you know, obviously for several years they were always up there and then for the last couple of years it just seems like Clemson has been under the radar. Well I think, you know, it's interesting you say that when my daughter was at Clemson they were in the playoff all four years she was in school and that they were right, right there, the class of the ACC and that nobody could touch them and here over these last few years that the rest of the ACC has been able to and I think part of it has to do with the transfer portal. I still think that you like the old school way of within and bringing up the players within but you can fill your holes with getting players from other schools and to be competitive with it. You see some Alabama players that came with transfers that were Gibbs, some of these guys that came in that really, really shined at Alabama that they were able to get in the transfer portal but I think that's part of it. They're still recruit well, if you look in the recruiting the Clemson is still recruiting real well so I think they're going to be good this year. I think they'll be better than they have and the fact they're not in the SEC and have to play Texas in Oklahoma that that doesn't hurt things for them. I think they'll have a good year. That didn't hurt at all, Texas is going to, you know Texas comes into Tuscaloosa last year and it was at that ballgame and gets the win. To see SEC just about weekend and week out is going to be a different, I think it's going to be a whole lot different for Sarkeesian and the Longhorns. Doug. Yeah David just playing off of that and the SEC and the ACC and excuse me Texas and Oklahoma coming in. This year there's a lot of talk about teams from the ACC joining the SEC in the future. If you had to reach out there and grab a couple from the ACC who would you grab? Well you know the Clemson is a natural, I mean you feel like that they're going to be in there and then you're going to have North Carolina. You got Florida State that has been wanting in but I think if one and two I would say Clemson and North Carolina, you know that it's really going to be interesting and you're going to see a team in the SEC that has three losses that could very possibly get into that playoff because you lose Alabama, you lose to Texas, you lose to Georgia and you kill everybody else that where are you, where are you going to stand and it should be interesting to see and I think it's just going to create more excitement at the tail end. We've been on the edge of our seats to see who the fourth team to get in and now it'll be you know further down the road of how it goes but I think it's going to be a great year. I think it's going to be chaos. I think that without a doubt we'll find out how this goes when we have the playoff and you got four or five SEC teams with it but you know and the big question is I was going to say the big question is when do we go to twenty four, when do you go to ninety two? I mean where does it stop? You start to look at it physically of what it does, you look at the NFL and you see the number of games that you play and then going through the playoff rounds and you know but it's so much in all of our sports but football is such a physical game that to have these kids play in more and more games you know you think of where they are now you know I think if they're playing twenty games in a season it just you know it's crazy but you'd have to cut back the regular season at some point I guess. I think and I think you'd start seeing injuries I have a play in it because I think you do already now. Yeah no doubt no doubt David segment goes too fast when you're on buddy always good and we'll look forward to seeing you tomorrow for the Southern Fairways Golf Tour. Thank you for hanging out with us this morning and I look forward to seeing you. Hey appreciate you having me on go dog. All right David and usual the general manager at Glen Lace take a time out when we come back we head back on to Lake Tahoe Peter Jacobson's schedule to be with us. [Music] What's that was that Jake Trout Jake Trout in the flounders how about that let's bring you back some memories I'm telling you man hey welcome back to Southern Fairways we head directly to Lake Tahoe where our man Bobby Hall is right now Bobby welcome back hey well I've lost Peter Jacobson he's probably gone to get ready I mean it's hard to keep this star studded yeah around but we're over here next to Aaron Rodgers he's taught them to Roger Maltby and maybe we can get Roger on here for a minute it's it's kind of tough when you're they're trying to stay on time for two times and there's a lot of folks up here driving range and sometimes I can snag a guest and sometimes they're pretty busy what y'all when I got one for you okay yeah we had to because there's so many players playing in it in the time it just takes a lot of time hey I got a good friend here is going to talk to you Major League Baseball player Derek Lowe Derek Lowe will be live here on one oh six five Derek say hi to the folks back in Mobile Alabama go blue go Michigan hi how you doing I'm Derek Derek how you doing brother real good good they're like you bring it it's very good we're getting set for a little football not far away about a month and a half away and of course big Alabama Auburn Georgia you know that SEC we're a big football fans down here what do we have to look forward to what's Michigan going to be like not good man Harbaugh I love him but I think he got us a little bit but no two yeah two two semifinals obviously last year amazing playing Alabama at the Rose Bowl but yeah I live and die college football you know I mean I know SEC in the South like playing Atlanta you know I got to see the passion with the Georgia Bulldogs but yeah no I'm not expecting the greatest but yeah can't wait for it well Derek now tell me how do you see how do you see this year because there's a lot of changes going on of course NIL is in my opinion yeah put on a whole different face for college football how do you see this year kind of winding up do you have two two picks that we'll see in the championship now unfortunately the Buckeyes are gonna be pretty good Ohio State yeah for some reason Michigan doesn't believe in the NIL stuff just so we fall a little bit behind the eight ball but you know obviously this year what what 12 teams make to playoffs I think yep is that what it is yeah so yeah I mean yeah I mean obviously Alabama is always gonna be there but I think the Buckeyes unfortunately I mean pretty good I think we're as looking as a Michigan family make them a little short but yeah I don't know I don't know how this thing ends up man it's like there's no clarity of like how much money you can get or you know so hopefully at some point we can figure this out but I just don't really believe in the spot and buy a team especially at the college level well that's I mean that was a whole reason that we pool for college I think for most folks is the fact that these kids went out there and played for the love of the game and now it's all about the money it's almost like a semi-pro leagues but hey look here let's talk real quick we got you for a minute or two here I got Derek Lowe on the line with us right now you're a T3 at the American Central Championship you're 21 points talk a little bit about you yeah man it's the best round I've ever shot here so so no this is my amazing bet I don't know if you've been here people have been here this is I'm fortunate it's my 12th year and yeah so I played decent and so we got Adam feeling today and Marty Fish won the darn thing almost every year so I look forward to it man just the rubbing elbows with people sitting next to a Kelsey or Aaron Rodgers or you know it's not an everyday occurrence you just run across these people so look forward to it but we got a long way to go yeah you got you got a legend right there not far from you to John Smoltz he's an 18 right so yeah yeah yeah well all right boys thank you very much you guys have a great day man thanks for having me all right Derek take care okay good all right buddy see Derek Lowe go low I like that you I miss that the first time but I got it the second no good stuff I mean it is fun for these guys to go out there and play and I mean you got some legends out there more molders at 19 points Dale Curry also at 19 points Tim Brown we talked a little bit about Tim he gets a hole in one yesterday he gets a nice 24 foot master crap boat like he couldn't afford it wow yeah yeah good stuff good stuff that's a great tournament and Dale Curry has gotten better hasn't he he's improved his golf can yes he has he's gotten a whole lot better yeah and a whole lot better hey let me just go ahead and get you caught up on the leaderboards real quick the old guys the PGA tour champions are at the colon companies championship what was that yeah I'm only gonna say it once it was leading the way Steven Alker up there at seven or Steve Stricker at one back at six under Jerry Kelly at five under how about KJ Choi he's at he's at four under Kenny Perry can you been on the show with as many times he's at four under right now so always fun to watch those old guys that's kind of I want to talk with Peter Jacobson because you know he's doing a lot of broadcasting on the senior tour yeah the way these guys you know it's amazing they just don't lose it I wanted to ask Peter too about what you and Bobby were talking about like I knew Larry the cable guy we're talking about kicking the ball back into play and if Peter had ever seen that on the on the PGA tour during his years maybe at the Britain Scottish Open or the British Open never never seen that I'm sure he'd had a nice comment about that yeah funny guy I had a chance to visit with Peter at the Moors over in Pensacola or Milton when they had the the senior event over there and and did a nice little piece with him in the pro am when and we had we miked him up and had him talking to all the players in his group you know and that's really what Peter is good at is is relating to those amateurs and having a good time and bringing people out to the golf course yeah there's no question about that for sure let me get your thoughts real quick we'll find out that you know this week the tiger kind of turned down the captain captain ship for the 2025 Ryder Cup and looks like Keegan Bradley will be the US captain wasn't that an interesting pic Randy see I mean you had Stewart sink in there and I would have thought that that would have been worse fell well feel I don't think that's gonna happen don't think that's gonna happen but I thought Stewart sink would have been the automatic it just you know and then remember Keegan didn't make the 2023 Ryder Cup well that that's the first thing that entered my mind is what does Keegan have on these guys yeah well I hate to say that but I was shocked at that pic with Keegan Bradley as a captain of the Ryder Cup will be more shocking will be his six picks yeah and it probably well I won't even comment on that who might be or won't be oh we'll see here wins next week the way we got to find out yeah we've got it as that that run will start the start the playoffs here in what a couple weeks so of course this we've got the Genesis Scottish Open going on right now you got the last major of the season coming up starting this week starting on Thursday the Open at Royal Trune and I mentioned Brian Harman Brian Harman former Georgia Bulldog your defending champion yeah and I mentioned Oberg last week last major at the US Open and I picked him and I think you guys picked Rory and he's on top the leaderboard again here today are tied for the lead now with Mike and Tyre and Sahith Thagala so you know can the young guy pick up his first major next week at Royal Trune know to be interesting of course the LPGA there and they're in France for the every on championship the fourth of five majors on the LPGA and you have got right Japan's Yaka Faroo is atop the leaderboard along with an Australian Stephanie Carrico they're at 13 under so listen that's a that's a good win right there of course Lexi Thompson decided not to play in this she gets and I guess she's going to go on through with her retirement I think so I think she's she's out and gonna have some fun and do what she wants to do and I think that's great not maybe not great for golf but good for Lexi so we talked a lot about football Randy and a little bit with David when he was on with the Georgia Bulldogs and and you know Kirby smart is up Monday in Dallas first time they've had the SEC meeting days in Dallas it's always in Destin well in Birmingham yeah yeah Destin is the coach I'm sorry yeah Birmingham or Atlanta has been the usually the SEC meeting days and the first time in doubt you know we got Oklahoma Texas coming in so I guess they wanted to throw them a bone so to speak but anyway you got Kirby coming up I'm not sure when Deborah goes this week but I think freeze is on Thursday and so it'll be interesting not a lot of news comes out of the SEC meeting days anymore because they moved it to the middle of July instead of the first of August but I mean what are you gonna ask them at this point what do they know I mean they had I guess transfer portal you know have you have you talked to 12 guys that are coming in next week who who you say is the the top coach right now not only in the SEC but in the nation well I think you have to go with Kirby smart I think you'd have to go with Kirby smart there yeah no question with the success they've had in the last five years or whatever what's to be expected of Auburn this year well I think Auburn fans are hoping for improvement this year and hopefully some more talent around Peyton Thorne and quarterback better receivers better offensive line running backs are solid at the defense holds their own I think Auburn can contend with the with the top teams in the SEC they've got to play mistake free football you know how many times have you heard that but get rid of the mistakes and the penalties and make some big plays and I think they're they're right on the verge of getting to that upper upper echelon of the SEC yeah now maybe so and and I think coach freeze getting his staff where he wants it who's out who's in is going to be a big factor the expectation level has got to be got to be rising well and I was watching I was listening on the way back from Auburn the other day I was driving back and I was listening to a show on the radio and and the guy picked Auburn and Florida as the most underrated teams going into this season he thought those two teams would perform better than people are thinking so it'll be interesting to see I know you know Auburn fans are excited about they were excited last year and you know the Georgia game was close last year the Alabama game was pretty close last year so if they can flip those close games that's the key to anybody's season now and you'll be doing your you'll be doing your show again starting up this year yes we'll have tiger talk overtime on Thursday nights FM talk one oh six five and preview the Auburn game coming up that week have a lot of great guests to talk about Auburn football so I hope people will join us and also on War Eagle TV dot com all through the week we'll be talking Auburn sports Alabama guy plug in a lot of Auburn stuff wow that's good to see alright we take a time out when we come back we'll put the wraps on this edition of Southern Fairways don't go anywhere well you're going to be hearing that in just about two weeks the 2024 Olympics happening over in Paris Paris in Valley France welcome back to Southern Fairways we have no idea where we're going no we do we're very happy to be here at ACC he gets it he's a fan favorite if you ever play in a celebrity and with him you'll just have a whole lot of fun he's just an all around some of the celebrities I know we're on the live live radio so I try to get to the stars is that I can get on here and talk you know it's just sometimes they're busy they don't want to be bothered and sometimes they're just happy to but it is going to be an exciting finish don't forget the Jimmy Fallon BJ Khaled golf match will be aired no come on NBC a little later in the week so right here I got Adam feeling Adam I got a live radio show going on back in the mobile Alabama could you say a few folks to Randy Bergen and our folks back in mobile yeah what's up guys hey Adam how you doing brother doing great are you doing very well to talk with Adam Thelin with the Carolina Panthers wide receiver NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver and a top the leaderboard there at the American Century Championship 24 points Marty fish one point behind you 23 of course Derek lower buddy a couple back talk a little bit about the golf course I know that Brad Wunderlich the superintendent always has that golf course in wonderful shape for y'all when you get out there but you got to be having fun out there man oh yeah it's a beautiful course is one of my favorite places to play and and every year you know they say oh it's in the best shape it's ever been and then you get out here and it's true you kind of laugh when they say it but then you come out here and it's true so I always get to be back out here American Century that's such a great job putting this event on and we all love it and love to go out there and compete and I don't know if I'm always saying I'm having fun out there because I'm grinding trying to find a way to get this little white ball in a hole but it is it is up the round it's one of the remnants and look back at it well I know you have fun Doug hey Adam good to talk to you I'm just wondering a lot of the guys out there have picked up golf after their professional sports career when did you start playing golf when did you pick it up and what was your influence there yeah so my mom actually kind of volunteered her whole life one of the her volunteered duties was running a junior golf program and so she's super organized and so not not the instruction side of it but kind of organizing everything so when I was I mean something like a walk I was around the game and you know so I picked it up at a really young age which was great and I really fell in love with it when I got to the NFL and you know had some off seasons to be able to spend some time on my game and get better and then I started out with kids and took away from my game a little bit but now they're kind of into it well well that is that is really cool and look I know you're getting ready to go out and play man good luck keep keep doing what you're doing go low make the points and we'll be watching you all right I appreciate you guys good talking with you all right there you go Adam Thelin man he's top the leaderboard that's pretty cool playing some good golf got some big names out there playing some good golf Marty Fish who has won this several times he's left he played tennis big big tennis guy yeah he's tough he's tough Adam will have his hands full keeping Marty off of him and I think Adam I was just reading a little bit about he's a Minnesota state guy in college football oh really I believe that's where he played so I was gonna ask him about college football I know he's off to practice and warm up and get to his tea time and all that stuff he's only got a few minutes and they'll be back Bobby Hall is hung up on us but he's he's into the he's building the fire pit for tonight there's no doubt about it no doubt hey I want to remind you to be sure to check out our magazine Joey Johnson the publisher and editor-in-chief has produced another great magazine full of golf travel leisure and much more you can pick up a free copy at most any golf course so you can go online to southern fairways golf.com and check out the digital version I want to we're going to get to start talking more about football as we get a little bit closer we talked about the SEC media days that happens in Dallas beginning on Monday as you mentioned what are they going to talk about there's not a whole I mean I'm sure there's a lot to talk about but what to report on okay yeah you know unless somebody goes out to a bar or something that they shouldn't you know what else happens in July I mean I talked I think I mentioned a couple weeks ago on the show that a friend of mine was in the Auburn football building and it was you know I don't know what that was two weeks ago and he said there were four cars in the parking lot so it's kind of off time for the they're getting back into it now because they have to with the media days but you know it's the time when the coaches get away a little bit go to the lake go to the beach and and get a week or two off to recharge those batteries if there is any time I was going to say I mean it seems like now it's probably even tougher than years in the past you always think hard work you think of Nick Saban and just 24/7 his batteries never went down I don't think I don't think they did I mean well energizer did real well for him what do you think Randy if you if you had to pick someone as a dark horse this year do you have somebody in mind that you would pick there is probably one I got two basically Tennessee's gonna be one and I don't know if you've really call him a dark horse but I'm gonna I'm gonna put Tennessee up there Missouri might be my daughter in the dark horse I was gonna say that and I was listening to some conversation the other day about that and the the rivalry between Missouri and Oklahoma which I never thought was that big a rivalry but I guess with Missouri having a good season last year and drink a wits kind of maybe bringing the program up a notch there it'll be interesting to see how they do this year and can they can they maintain that for another season and and really build that program into something it hasn't been well it'll be it will be interesting that's if you watched last year you watched how they started moving up and I got to tell you that was Schroeder kid that played running back yeah Missouri was amazing I mean just he was he was awesome but I think I think the coaching staff they're this is a team on the rise and I think he had to watch them they'll start out with Murray State I think they play Buffalo they don't really get into the SEC until like the 21st of September they start out with Vanderbilt they can go ahead and get that win then they're the following week there are they I think they had the week off then they take on Texas A&M and then they got Auburn on the 19th of October so Texas A&M is going to be a test for them I think no doubt about it and that's another interesting team in the SEC Texas A&M with a coaching switch and Mike Alco going down there from Duke yeah it did a phenomenal job I thought at Duke with our guy from Fair Hope playing quarterback there Raleigh Leonard who is who is now at Notre Dame and they've got him on the Heisman watch oh he got enlisted number seven on the Heisman one no doubt about it I think I was hoping he would wind up at Auburn but I bet you were I understood his girlfriend goes to Auburn so oh really I didn't know that so but anyway yeah I think A&M is going to be a team to watch you know do they go up do they go down they got a lot of a lot of boosters down there and you know support for their team so where does Texas A&M go where does Missouri go the other team I'm thinking of is and I'm not sure this is a great question but Kentucky do they do they take a step forward or step backwards with all the competition in the SEC now that's a great question that's a that's a great question because I think over the years Kentucky has certainly done a great job in in their performance you know they've kind of been right there on that bubble if you will yeah and are they at the ceiling now or is there something higher for Kentucky well you know stoopses stoopses the all-time winning winning his coach theory Kentucky yeah does he step away at some point yeah that that's a good question yeah how long does he stay at Kentucky he's had some other opportunities and hasn't taken them so maybe he's comfortable finishing his career there well their schedule is going to be kind of interesting they start out with Southern Miss and then they go right into SEC play the second week they'll take on South Carolina which is somebody else I think you got to watch Shane Beamer you got to watch what's up with him is is I think they love him but they're their expectations are a little high he's kind of but a do or die situation there it's not this year maybe but you know he's sneaking up on he's got he's got to perform got to do something at South Carolina pretty soon and for Kentucky you know now they have Louisville kind of coming up in college football and their programs at a pretty good point so that's a big rivalry for them up in the bluegrass state having myself spent some time in Louisville when I was in high school so they used to be a big basketball rivalry but now yeah maybe the football rivalry is even bigger well look they will they will as I mentioned have South Carolina then they follow that up with Georgia and then they play Ohio not Ohio State but Ohio University and then they get back into into SEC play and I think it's going to be do or die for them because they got Ole Miss Vanderbilt they should beat Vanderbilt that'll be probably a close game they're at Florida and then they host Auburn followed by going to Tennessee that's that's a pretty good stretch yeah and you mentioned Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin a lot of people are picking them very high this year so is Ole Miss now a team that's up there with the Alabama's and the Georges and whoever's at the very top I think they're in the top four top five yeah I mean I don't think there's a question about it where's Texas and Oklahoma how are they going to fair whenever they have to come from the big 12 where they're dominating over there you come into the SEC and you're seeing defenses like you've not seen before yeah and well well all the SEC fans pull against them in their first game in the conference yes yes they will hey one of the things we call a lot of them tricks on golf Blue George Cajun grill Glenn Lakes Ben Murphy roofing Easter short till you're done Hyundai craft farms and peninsula Lisa Johnson realtor fair hope golf works booms tight kitchen got some great news
