"And hello again friends and welcome to a 4th of July weekend edition of Southern Fairway Sports Radio presented by our friends at McConnell Automotive, the number one GMC dealer in the state of Alabama. They're located just east of I-65 on Dolphin Street in Mobile or you can check them out online at mcconlautomotive.com. We're broadcasting live today from our Shrickson Studios right here in LA, that's right, lower Alabama. Well I'll tell you what, a lot of folks in LA as a weekend full of festivities, fireworks, everything going on 4th of July. And Coach I gotta tell you, this is a rarity for you to be able to sit in here with me. My compadres have all dissed me, Coach, so thank you for hanging out with me. I don't think they'd take this, and the others think that they're just probably doing family stuff. Well I'll tell you, I know Bobby, Bobby Hall, PGA Teaching Professional and Director of Golf at Quail Creek, he is on a plane right now headed to Lake Tahoe. He is of course one of the head rules official for the American Century Celebrity Classic or Championship actually, and he's in beautiful Lake Tahoe, he'll be there this afternoon. He'll be on with us next Saturday, and as we always do this time of the year, we'll have some great celebrity guests on us, Peter Jacobson will be on with us, love having Peter Jacob sit on. He is quite the character, Larry the Cable Guy will be on with us, and who knows who will also be on. So it's always fun. Well Bobby is so well connected in the golf world, and that's always fun, I know for him and his wife to go there, it's a pretty neat place to go. Yeah, oh Lake Tahoe is great, and Brad Wonderlick is the superintendent up there, he does a fantastic job. Brad will probably be on with us at some point during the show next week as well, but I've never been to Lake Tahoe, I was supposed to have gone, and that had that little gig set up right before COVID, when COVID hit they had to go to a skeleton crew and that ex-nade me. So, but boy I would love to be a part of that. Well, you know the beautiful thing about what they do at Lake Tahoe, is they bring some cats in that can play, really can play, and then they got some that we need to have a bit more. Well, Steph Curry won last year, if you remember, okay, yeah that hole in one of number 17, number 17 is right there, along the lake, and they've got all the votes, and you know, the guys really do a great job, the slowers do a great job in engaging the fans there, and Steph Curry had just played outstanding last year, and he'll be defending, and we'll see how he does, but you're right, there's some guys that we need to have bets with, Larry the Cable Guy would be one of those that we would probably be able to win a little money off of, there's some guys that would surprise you though, Alfonso Rivera is surprisingly good. Really? He is surprisingly good, Justin Timberlake, I don't know if Justin will be there this year, I think he's having some issues, and look who has shown up, my man, one of the proprietors of Blue George Caging Grill, our good friend, we call him the voice mat brand in here, Matt, how you doing my brother? I'm doing great, I wasn't stressed out at all, getting here today, it was fantastic, traffic was beautiful, it was a wonderful trip here, 10 miles away, it took 40 minutes, it was fantastic. But you know, I didn't want to diss my buddy, you know, I had to make sure I got here from a man who seemed a little lonely yesterday, he said, I'm like, I got nobody here with you, Bobby's gone, Doug is in Auburn, he's about to try, Doug will be on with us in the next segment, and then I'm like, Matt, you're going to be with me, and Matt's like, well, I really have to do this, but you know what, I'll come join you, I'll come join you. He's always glad to be here, my friend, looking forward to a good show, and what a great week, happy Independence Day weekend for everybody. Absolutely. How's it been over at Blue George? Blue has been slamming, we've been having a great time, I ain't going to lie, it's been hot on the deck, but man, that thing has been full every single day with the fans, the misters. Cool. And you know, we've had some impromptu storms come by that were really exciting for all of us, exciting in a bad way. Exactly. We've popped up showers, it's kind of got everybody a little wet on the deck for a couple of times. Really? Yeah, yesterday it happened around seven o'clock, Friday at our Thursday it happened a little bit too. You know, what do you do? You just go with the flow, you have a little fun, you see people running around laughing, giggling, we push them inside the tables, we have it, it's entertainment and dinner right there. There you go. All in one. No extra charge. That's right. Coach and I know that's one of your favorite places to eat. No, it is my favorite place to eat. There's no doubt about it and with earphones here. Absolutely. Absolutely. We love that coach that comes in. He gives that, you get the voodoo right or the heart and heart and heart and heart and heart and heart and heart. I'm telling you, I love all their pasta and my doctor just, yeah. You get the Mardi Gras pasta, is that what you get? Is that the angel hair? Yeah. That's the same. Yeah. I get the voodoo with a blacked alligator. What you got to do is if your doctor's given you problems, bring your doctor out for lunch. Once he eats it, he'll say, "I understand." Yeah. This is good for you. There you go. This is good for you. You notice I hadn't paid much attention to that particular part of my doctorial advice. But that's a great place and I always get the blacked gator. That's it. Oh yeah, the appetizer. That's appetizer. I mean, that's it. Let me say this real quick, if you've not been to boudros, or maybe you've been to boudros, but you've not eaten the alligator. You need to. Because it has done different than anybody around here, you actually, and I've said this to a thousand people, man, you could actually cut it with a fork. It's almost like filet mignon. Nice to have us. And it's alligator like no other. There's a right way to cook it in the wrong way, and this is definitely the right way. There is. I'm not about it. Get it out of it. Get it out of it. We have some people come in and say, "Can you fry it?" We say, "Yeah, we can," but you're going to miss out on the texture of the flavor and all those things that come with blackened gator. So come out and try something new if you haven't had it before. It's worth it. You'll come back for more. There's no doubt. No doubt. Hey, a lot going on in the world of golf. We're going to get you caught up on the leaderboards. We're going to talk a little football. Doug Holton is going to be on with us in the next segment, bottom of the hour. We're scheduled to have Mitch McConnell on. Of course, Mitch has got his thumb on the pulse of Alabama football and SEC football, and I'll tell you, I was talking to him the other day, and Rick, he is a big, big, big fan of Coach Dibor. Yeah. Yeah. You know, I always hear you talking to Mitch, and you know he loves golf. I bet you don't know this about him. He was a great junior tennis player. Yeah. I'm talking about not good, not average. Above. I'm talking about above average. Yeah. A really good tennis player. I mean really good. So he could have made some money playing tennis. He could. He could have made some money doing it. Speaking of which, how many, and I know you don't ever talk about this, Matt, maybe you don't know this, but as the tennis coach of UMS Wright, Rick, how many state championships have you got? We always talk about Ann Schilling getting 22, 23 in volleyball, but you've got what, 15, 16, 17? We've got 16 state championship rings and nine of those are tennis. We had a great run. I mean, Mary Jones and girls' tennis had an equally and better run. She's had like 12 in a row, 13 in a row, yes, she's phenomenal, and we would know. We just had really good athletes that love the game, and we played it all over the southeast. So I did not know that. I think that's amazing. I love tennis. I used to play not at school, just recreationally with friends and buddies down here in lot park years and years ago. Love it, enjoyed it, and it was great exercise. I got to ask you, not knowing you had this much experience in tennis coach, what is your, what does an experienced tennis professional coach think about pickleball? I don't talk about it. I really don't. He has said that before. He said, "I don't like pickleball." Is that right? I did not know that. And my counterpart on the girls' side loves it, and my buddies that played tennis now are playing a lot of it. I can't do it. I just can't do it. The sound of that ball is just so much different, and you can't get into a game kitchen. The kitchen is right on top of the net, that's where you've got to be able to put the ball away and get the ball away. What you don't know is this young man right here had the opportunity to play Wimbledon. Oh, wow. Yeah. Impressive. And you know, that's one of the most daunting things that you, I mean, it's just incredible. When you walk in that arena, you can't imagine. You can't imagine. Of course, those of us who were trying to qualify were on the outer courts. Yeah. But then, of course, they take you into the stadium, and, geez, I mean, it is overwhelming. It's absolutely overwhelming. And I told my wife when we were walking into Pinehurst and see all of the festivities that were going on there. Same thing. Yeah. Exactly the same thing. So incredible. Yeah. Yeah. The opportunity to go to the U.S. Open there at Pinehurst this year and what an experience you had there. Yeah. That was your first major you've been to? Yeah. First one. First one. You know, I'm not one. I'm not a people like her. I mean, it's too many people. Yeah. It's just too many people. And you get in that crowd and it's hot. I'm talking about scorching. Now, you guys have been to Augusta. That's in what? In April. Yeah. And it's a lot cooler. You go to Pinehurst, and a man, it was scorching. It was pretty warm up there. Yeah, it's warm. You didn't have any breeze off the water? No. No breeze. All right. No breeze. That segment went by pretty quick. It's all right. Hey, we're going to take a quick time out. We're going to come back. Doug holds the schedule to be on with us. Coach, can you hang out and you've got to go? No, I've got to go pick up a grandchild. All right. All right. There you go. All right. Well, thanks for hanging out with us. We'll be back with more Southern Fairway Sports Radio right after this. [MUSIC PLAYING] (upbeat music) - And welcome back to Southern Fairways Sports Radio. It is a Fourth of July weekend. Hope that you had a great fourth enjoyed the fireworks and enjoyed some great food, ribs, baked beans, potato salad, potato salad. - That's right. - What do you have there? - Well, we went with the All-American, you know, cheese and meat trade, vegetable tray and homemade ranch dip and vegetable dip. And then, and then we went crazy and went out. We had a friend of ours I actually did not cook, which was the first time in a long time for Fourth of July. A friend of ours came over and made the All-American chicken enchiladas, really. So we, we did, we sat away from the traditional stuff, but I did make my famous blueberry cobbler. So I did cook a little bit. So that brought us back to the traditional Fourth of July celebration, celebratory stuff. And then there were some, you know, cocktails involved. - Yeah, I'm sure there was for you. I'm sure there was. - That's a requirement. - Well, good, good, good. - Hey, let's go to our tricks on Gasline. He's not here physically, but he is on the phone with us. Doug Holton, War Eagle TV's Doug Holton. Doug, how you doing, my man? - I'm doing great, Randall. Always good to be with you. How's everything in the studio there? - It is fantastic, Doug. We miss you. As always, no show is complete without Doug Holton as part of the show. - Well, I was gonna say that, Randy. (laughing) - I knew you were, I knew you were. In other words, in other words, Doug, you complete us. - You complete, that's right. Hey, Doug, I know you were up there playing. Did you, as a matter of fact, did you have an opportunity to play a little golf way up there in Auburn? - Well, I haven't quite gotten there yet. I'm on the road still, but I am gonna play a little bit. While I'm there, I think it may be out at the Grand National course. So we'll see how much we can sweat on the golf course, maybe. - I can tell you we went out yesterday and played the Glen Lakes, and it was immeasurably hot. So all of you that are headed out to play golf today or this weekend, or this afternoon, be sure and drink a ton of water you've got to. I mean, there's just no way around it as it is extremely hot out there. Pace yourself, okay? - You're not making birdies, right? - You know, let me tell you what I did see. I saw a young man yesterday place from outstanding golf, a fellow that we get to play a lot of golf with, Tripp Rizzo shot like a '68, '69, he's on fire, he's making everything. So I'm just, I say that loud enough for you guys that are going to play with him and have a bet against him. Do not bet him right now, you will play. So, but no, it's fun watching some great golf. And I sort of did a lot of great golf going on right now up in Illinois, I think the John Deere Classic is going on. So, good stuff there, it's still just a little bit for the. - We had a little '59 up there this way, didn't we? - We certainly did, we saw that the first, I think that was on Thursday. So, but right now, C.T. Pan along with Aaron Rive, the young man from England, those two guys at 14 under, Harry Hall at 13 under Eric Cole, along with Davis Thompson, those guys at 12 under, well, we keep up with Robbie Shelton, Robbie Shelton right now, just five back at 9 under, he's a T-35 right now, so he shoots a 65, 68. So, you know, we were really, really rooting for Robbie to have that breakout year, and hopefully this is, this is the year for that. So, but a lot of good golf going on, these guys are going low. - Yeah, Randy, and that speaking of England, I heard you mentioned that, three of the Auburn girls this week are over in Ireland, playing in the Palmer Cup, and Anna Davis, Anna Foster, and Casey Wydenfeld, I think are over in Ireland. Didn't get to check on them this morning, but what an honor to play for the United States of America over in Ireland, I know all the Auburn fans are proud of them. - Well, and somebody that has been over to Ireland to play is seeing right across me. Have you been to Scotland? You've been to Scotland, hadn't you? - I have, Scotland was great. Ireland is next on the bucket list, but you know, I'll tell you what, watching, I watched part of this event last year, and man, the energy is just, it's just a smaller version of the Ryder Cup, of the President's Cup. The energy these ladies put out there on the course and around his teammates, it's fun to watch. It's, if you get a chance to pick some of that up on the TV, sit down and enjoy it, and root for good old USA. - Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. Hey, Doug, I know you're headed up to Auburn right now, let's talk a little football Auburn, and we're all excited about football this year, it's gonna be a little bit of a change, certainly in the SEC, we welcome in Oklahoma and Texas into the fold. How do you see this year laying out? I mean, it's, the playoffs will be different, I mean, it's just, it's gonna be a different little scene for us that have been watching SEC football for many, many years. - Yeah, no question about it, Randy, it's gonna be fun to see Oklahoma is coming to a Jordan hair stadium this fall, so that'll be one of the big games on the home schedule for the Tigers. I was talking to somebody yesterday and they said, "When does the transfer portal close?" Because the season is coming up here and we still have players committing and not committing and decommitting and whatever else, so it is a wild scene. But yeah, it's kind of the off season right now and talk to a buddy of mine in the Auburn football building the other day this week. And he said there were about four cars in the parking lot, so it's a vacation season, but two of the people that were there were Coach Hugh Freeze and another, I'll just say he was a VIP in the film room. They were watching some film and getting ready for the upcoming season. We're about, what are we, 90 or 100 days out or something like that? And I'll just say this guy is a very important piece of the Auburn offense. (both laughing) - Well, of course, as you mentioned, Auburn will host Alabama A&M. That'll happen on August the 31st, Alabama. We'll host Western Kentucky as we go through that list there. We mention Oklahoma, they'll host Temple, Texas A&M. This is gonna be an interesting one. Texas A&M will host the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. The reason I mention that is one of our good friends will be quarterbacking there at Notre Dame. Here's Duke, Chad Leonardson, Riley Leonard, played a fair hope now at Notre Dame. I think that that will be one that a lot of eyes, especially down here along with the Gulf Coast, to be watching. - Well, and who are they playing, Notre Dame and A&M? - Yep. - Well, that's, and he'll be playing against his old coach. - That's exactly right, exactly right. - That's a coach for the Aggies, yeah. So that will be fun to watch. That's gonna be a lot of great games like that. And, you know, I really wish the SEC, I did a story on this a while back. I wish the SEC would get some more teams from the ACC, and maybe a Notre Dame or a Louisville, those type of teams. I guess Louisville is in the ACC now, but I wish they would split it into pods and have less must-play games during the SEC season and give the teams a chance to play those cross-sectional games, those great rivalry games, and, you know, the Alabama Penn States and Auburn, Florida States and those type of games that we used to have. I think we're missing out on that in college football right now. - Well, and I agree with you. I certainly agree with you. You know, we were talking in the Preps Sports Report earlier, we had legendary coach Jimmy Wood on with us, and we were talking a little bit about NIL, how it's creeping into high school football, right? My thoughts, and Matt certainly gets your thoughts on it as well. This gives a whole new look to me. The sense of loyalty, the sense of camaraderie, seems like it may be fading away, because for a dollar or more, I'll go over here, you know, and it doesn't seem, and I think with Alabama, what we're seeing more is, and especially with saving before he left was the fact, hey, look, you can go over here and you can get 500,000, I'm gonna give you 300,000, and give you an opportunity to play in the Progs, okay? Do you wanna come play in Alabama? - Yeah, I agree. I think what it's doing is, you know, we had an art era growing up in high school, and even the last 10 years, you had what was popular, front of night lights. - Right. - It was hometowns, rooting on their home, you know, their home roots, all the guys that grew up there together, you're not gonna see that anymore with this NIL and high school and all this stuff. You're gonna see people moving around, transplanting, having two homes, one where you grew up, one where you play football, and I just don't, I don't think it, it might be great for building talent and having great, great teams, but you're not gonna have the community that I think that used to support such things as high school football, like it did in the past, it's gonna change that. - Yeah, I know, I agree with you. I agree with you completely, Doug, your thoughts? - Well, I think Matt is exactly right. We're missing the word commitment in college football right now, and when guys commit, it really doesn't mean commit, it means this is the best offer I have now until I get another one. - Exactly. - Exactly. - And so that's where we are in college football. I think Coach Freeze is on the right track that we have to get some, back to some sort of normalcy in NIL and all that's going on in college football and I don't know what the answer is, but somebody's gonna find a solution here at some point and somebody needs to take the leadership role there. Maybe it's, maybe Coach Saban, since he's not involved anymore, maybe he would be a good point guy. - I don't know that you can find a better one. I mean, although, listen, he's enjoying life right now. Okay, he's playing a lot of golf and joining his nice little $17 million condo, if you will, down in Florida. So, hey, let's take a quick time out. Doug, hang tight, you're back with us after this quick time out, and by the way, we're gonna hear from Red Skelton, if you've not heard this Pledge of Allegiance, if you're American, you wanna hear this right here, okay? We'll have it for you, coming up next. - I remember a teacher that I had. Now, I only, I went through the seventh grade, I went through the seventh grade, and I left home when I was 10 years old because I was hungry. And I used to, this is true. I work in the summer, I go to school in the winter, but I had this one teacher, it was the principal of the Harrison School in Vincennes, Indiana. To me, this was the greatest teacher, a real sage of my time, anyhow. He had such wisdom, and we were all reciting the Pledge of Allegiance one day, and he walked over this little teacher, Mr. Lasswell was his name. Mr. Lasswell, Mr. Mm. (audience laughing) He says, I've been listening to you, boys and girls, recite the Pledge of Allegiance all semester, and it seems as though it's becoming monotonous to you. If I may, may I recite it and try to explain to you the meaning of each word. I, me, an individual, a committee of one, a pledge, dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self-pity, allegiance, my love and my devotion, to the flag, our standard, oh glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there's respect, because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody's job, united. That means that we have all come together. States, individual communities that have united into 48 great states, 48 individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose, all divided with imaginary boundaries yet united to a common purpose, and that's love for country and to the Republic, Republic, a state in which sovereign power is invested in representative chosen by the people to govern, and government is the people, and it's from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people, for which it stands. One nation, one nation meaning so blessed by God, indivisible, incapable of being divided with liberty, which is freedom, the right of power to live one's own life without threats, fear, or some sort of retaliation, and justice, the principle or qualities of dealing fairly with others, for all, for all, which means boys and girls, it's as much your country as it is mine. And now boys and girls, let me hear you recite the pledge of allegiance. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country, and two words have been added to the pledge of allegiance, under God. Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer, and that would be eliminated from schools, too? (upbeat music) ♪ Happy birthday, America ♪ ♪ It's a Fourth of July ♪ ♪ Get to wake up in your freedom ♪ ♪ But sometimes I wonder why ♪ ♪ Seem like everybody's ♪ ♪ On the red, white and blue ♪ ♪ Happy birthday, America ♪ ♪ Whatever's left of you ♪ - And welcome back to Southern Fairway Sports Radio, a little tribute there, the late Toby Keith, and happy birthday, America. And we do it every Fourth of July weekend. We play the rich skeleton, Pledge of Allegiance. I just think it's something, and Matt, you and I were looking at each other as I was going on. Listen, I think we need more of that, if you wanna know the truth. - Yeah, more honesty, more liberty, more comfort, and where you live, and who you live around, and who you live with. And I think that's a big part of knowing where we came from as a nation, and where we're going. I think looking back, we could probably look back and say we should be a little bit more like that now, as opposed to where we are today. And things might be a little bit easier. - Agree, agree. Doug, your thoughts on that? - Well, it made me think of, first of all, I thought you were running for office for a minute, Randy, but it made me think of two things. Number one, thinking about, I read recently about Auburn Basketball Jam, that Bruce Pearl is having this summer, and he starts every session with, or every camp playing the national anthem, and he teaches the kids to stand around the court and stand still, and how to stand, and they're, and that's a big thing. - You kind of break it up there a little bit, but listen, when I was doing play ball play in college, it was really amazing to me, and we'll get back and talk in some sports in just a second, but it was amazing to me to watch how inconsiderate a lot of the students were, they wore the hats, they sat down, they were looking around, nobody was paying attention, to the national anthem, and it was like, guys, can you take two minutes and just support this, instead of acting like you don't care, and remember, what country you're in, okay? The best country in the world. - You know, I firmly believe that this day, there are a lot more gracious and kind acts out there in the world, especially in the United States, from one brother to the next, one sister to the next. Unfortunately, we're locked into seeing what's available on the news and social media, all we get to see is the bad stuff and hurting stuff, and I think we spent more time looking for the good things, and not looking for the bad things, we'd be a lot simpler and happier, I think. - And I think that's why you see broadcast TV changing, okay, because people are like, man, all we see is bad stuff, it's always bad, it's never a good stuff, anyway. All right, hey, let's talk a little golf here real quick, of course, the John Deere Classic going on in Illinois. Hey, there's a young man that loves this golf course, I think he made his debut in 2015, by winning it, Jordan Spieth making a move right now, he's at six under, through eight holes today, so he's at minus 12, he's up 43 spots, he's only two off the lead, man. - Yeah, he's on fire, and he knows how to win the John Deere Classic, he's a little Texas boy, he's done it a few times, so he's moving up really well, we've got a couple guys moving with the lead reward, 21 spots up, down in T11, Thomas Crow, Trace Crow, excuse me, minus 11, minus three for the day, this is moving day, and right now, Spieth is explaining why it's called moving day. - Yeah, exactly, your thoughts there, Doug? - Yeah, can you guys hear me okay? - Gotcha now, gotcha. - Okay, good, I'm out here a thousand miles from nowhere, I guess, but anyway, you were mentioning Jordan Spieth, interesting to see him, you know, he has those strict where he shoots, like you said, five or six under, plays a good round, and then he'll play a not so good round, I know he loves the British Open, which is, is that coming up next week, Randy, is that right? - Yeah, I believe it is next week, I'll double check the following week. - Yeah, anyway, I was gonna say Jordan, I know he loves the British Open, and battling for the Claret Jug, and it's gonna be fun to always, always a highlight of the summer for me, when you get to get up early on Thursday and Friday, and on the weekend, and watch the British Open, watch it live, and just get a little different taste of golf over there across the pond. - Yeah, no doubt, and it is two weeks. It starts July the 18th, the Open Championship, they're Royal Trune Golf Club. Now, you've not played there. - I have not, I have not played there. - Just your world trial, you play a lot of different places. - I'm trying to be better at that, Randy. I wanna get them all in, I really do. - And you're doing a good job. - Yeah, I think the Scottish Open is this coming week, right? - Yeah, it is. - If the Scottish Open, then we have-- - Yeah, and then Roy will be showing himself back in the public eye next week, so that'll be interesting to see. - Of course, the news right now with Roy, he's taking a couple of little time off after losing the championship there, that major, listen, that deflated him. That deflated him, now I know he and his wife, I think, are getting back together. It seems the latest that I've heard, but he had that, he had that. - And you know, Doug, Doug, you might recall this, Randy and I both picked Rory on that Saturday of the US Open to go ahead and finish it off with a win. And I was feeling pretty good about that, up to the last two, three hours. - Six to 16, yeah, I was like, yeah, I'm gonna go back on the radio next week and talk to Doug and say, yeah, I mean, I was right. And then I wasn't. - Yeah, and you know what I was thinking, guys, I don't know if y'all heard this or not, but Bryson DeChambeau won his sixth tournament when he won the US Open in the first six months of the year. And the last guy to do that was Arnold Palmer, and I forgot when the year was 1960-something, but the British Open that same year was that guess where? - No. - It was that true, and Arnold Palmer won it. - Wow, royal true. - Wow. - Well, I'll tell you somebody that's on fire, is the young man from Texas, Mr. Scotty Scheffler. And he has just been tearing it up, but you had mentioned earlier, we saw that from Hayden Springer, he, 27-year-old from Texas Christian University, I think is official World Golf ranking right now, I assume it, 236th, but just one, I'm not sure, I think it's one of 14 players that have shot 59, is that right? - If it's that many, 14 seems high to me, but that may be right. - Maybe, maybe. I'll double check that, but yeah, I mean, to shoot a 59 though, is pretty dull going spanky, yeah. - No question about it, Randy, and you've done that yourself, the 59, but. - That was in front of that one. That was the 15th hole I was gonna say, so. - That's right, thank you, Doug, I appreciate that. I appreciate that. Yeah, we had an opportunity yesterday to go down to play at Glen Lakes, I want to thank David Musil, who's a great partner of ours, golf course in fantastic conditioning, if you have an opportunity, go down and see David, he and his staff do a great job down there, really, the course is in good shape, as much traffic as they have down there, but always fun, always fun, and number seven is playing up a little bit, so it's that poor five is kind of gettable. - Is it? - I saw two opportunities for equal yesterday, so. - I hear you. - Hey, let's take a quick time out. When we come back, we will put the wraps on this edition. It's Fourth of July, weekend edition of Southern Fairway Sports Radio. Don't go anywhere, Doug Holton, Matt Brant, I'm Randy Bergen, we'll be right back. (upbeat music) (upbeat music) - Little Bob Marley to bring you back, have your head down to the beach, that's the kind of music you want to hear, or maybe you're headed to Auburn, that's certainly the music you want to hear, right, Doug? - No question about it, I like that right here. (laughing) - You are a reggae master, no doubt, no doubt, Randy Bergen, Matt Brant, and Doug Holton, Southern Fairway Sports Radio. Glad to have you on board with us. Put the wraps on this edition of Fourth of July, weekend edition, and, you know, golf is kind of, it seems like it's moving pretty fast this year. We've got one major left, two weeks we'll mention it, the former British Open, now the Open, as they call it. Who you like on this? So I mean, man, have you got a pick on this one? - You know, I think about this, I thought about it before, I knew we were talking about it today on the show, we'll talk about it next week, I'm sure too. I can't stop thinking about Scotty Scheffler. I mean, he's five to one right now. He's just so good right now. He had the one hiccup, and that was at the US Open, and I call it a hiccup, but I mean, he still made the cut, and he played, you know, okay, I just think he had four rounds, not under par, didn't come under par at all, which was odd for him. - Yeah, then he comes back to him, do we get to that? And just blows it away. So, you know, what's he gonna do? I like, I do like Roy's chances, I really do, I think, Roy's 13 to two. - Yeah, I like his chances. I would still, look, I got a soft spot in my heart for Rory, I don't know why, I always have. Watch them grow up, watch them play golf. I think that's part of it. I really hope he does well, not only the Scottish Open, but the Open itself. I would love to see him get in the major in there, get a big win, 'cause, I mean, I feel like he deserves it for some of the things he had to go with over the last few years. And I'm kind of pulling for him. - And I agree with you, I mean, he's been the face of the PGA, tour, if you will. And he's taken a lot of heat. I think he's passed up a lot of money, not to go to live. And certainly we were rooting for him for the last major. The US Open. I am with you, I am pulling for Rory on this one. A 13 to two, odds on him, Bryce DeChambeau, 11 to one. My mention's got a chef for a five to one. Xander Schoffle, 14 to one along with Ludwig Oberg. He's 14 to one. How 'bout Victor Hoblin? He and Colin Maricauer, 16 to one odds. John Romme, he'll be playing in it 24 to one odds. I don't see John Romme, he's kind of faded away. You know what I mean? And Doug, I know you're a big Rom fan, but he's kind of faded away a little bit. - Yeah, I don't know what's happened to John. He's had a couple of injuries I think this year and different things, but it'll be interesting to see how he plays over there at Trune. But I got to like the guys that are on top right now, if you have to pick them. Scotty Schoffle and Bryce and DeChambeau are red hot and it's hard to pick against them. If there is one guy I might see sneaking in there, it is, as you mentioned, Randy, Colin, Maura Calla. He has played awfully well this year and is striking the ball very well, has got control of this game. I think it's just a matter of getting some butts in the hole. And I know he would love to add that open championship to his repertoire. - Yeah, I tell you what, I think as far as he goes, you know, we talked about this a few weeks ago, he's only one term it's during the shutdown phase, where he's not had a big crowd to interact with or to cheer him on. You know, he hasn't won a huge tournament yet with a full stadium of people watching. So that would be interesting too for him. He's never heard that crowd screaming for him quite like that. - Well, you got a good point right there. - Maybe you need to put the blinders on or something. - Yeah, could be, could be. - I'll tell you somebody I like and he had to bail out the last tournament because of a back is Will Zalatoris. I thought his back injury would have been taken care of, but apparently he had to, he suffered a little bit. And another favorite of mine. - Now Zalatoris is a 41 to one odds along with Justin Thomas. But some of what I like is Hadaki Matsiyama. Hadaki's 42 to one odds and do not leave out the name Max Homa. I think Max is gonna shine at some point and he's gonna get a major. - Yeah, you know what, Max Homa's a good pick. He always seems so stoic during the tournament. It's just a straight phase, always going forward. And a wild card pick might throw out there not just 'cause he's playing well today, but you know, those Texas boys like Scheffler can play in the wind and Jordan Speed is one of those guys. So you never know. He could show up at the open out there and surprise some folks. - Let's see what, what his odds are right now. If you're going to lay some money down, you may wanna throw it on Jordan because he's not even on the list. - Oh my goodness. - There you go, Matt. Make that pick nobody. - There you go, there you go. - Yeah, I mean, Tigers are 100 to one right now. So let's see here. I do not see Jordan Speed on this list at all. So. - Well, there you go, guys. Go to Vegas, go to Vegas and-- - There he is, there he is. I got it. 47 to one. - Okay, 47 to one. - Still a good money, Matt. Throw 50 bucks out there and see what happens. Or 10. I mean. - What, 10 bucks to get you? If it wins, it's four or 70 bucks. - Yeah, that's not bad. - Yeah, there you go. There you go, Doug. Let her say, "Yo, there's a day's worth of work for you." (laughing) - You know, I was just thinking back, guys. Always remember the great Tom Wiesgolf winning at Trune in 1973. I think he was honored at the Memorial Tournament, at Jack's Place this season. And I think it wasn't one of the great battles between Nick Wilson and Tom Watson at Trune also. - I believe you're right. - Yep. - Yeah. So a lot of history at Trune. It's a place that's kind of off the beaten path as far as the British Open. It's not over by St. Andrews and that kind of thing. But really one of the historic places in the rotation at the British Open. - Yeah, there's no question about that. It ought to be really neat. Of course, when they finished there, they come back, they go to Minnesota, the Twin Cities for the 3M Open. 8.3, purse, not bad. I think the, and I don't really don't even know what the purse is for the Open Championship. I think it's gonna be somewhere in that $20 million range, but it's, which is quite a bit of money. - Matty Oak. - Not a bad place to end up on top of the leaderboard at. - No. - You know, win some cash. These guys are doing okay. - Yeah. - These guys are doing all right. - Hey, we're fixed with the wraps on this. Matt, what's for dinner tonight? - Well, I'll tell you what. We got in some really great Mahi Mahi yesterday. We cut it all up, it's ready to go. So, you know, Mahi, Mahi blackened, topped with our cajun cream sauce, our zydeco sauce and shrimp, rice, and some green music going along with it. That is, you can't go wrong with that. That's a, that's a traditional fish out of the golf. You love it. It's caught fresh right out here. We got a company locally, a fresh seafood that has three or four boats that go out there, and they send us a lift. They say, "Hey, this is what we caught. What do you want?" And then we get to, we get to, yeah, that's how it works. That's fresh, never frozen, baby. That's the only way to go. And look, we're real proud of what we got going on out there. 10 years open now. Really great group of staff working for us. Great guests coming in. So, come on out, relax, have a little bushwhacker, have a little fresh catch from the golf, and enjoy your time with family. - And sit out on the deck. - There you go. - It is a fantastic place to be. It's Bujo's Cajun Grill right there off I-10 on Highway 98. It is a driver for you, a driver wedge. I'll take it from the interstate. So, very easy, how about reservations? Or do they just show up? - Just show up, just come on out. We don't take reservations right now, walk-ins only. We can take groups up to 20 guests. Might take a little longer to get large parties in, but we'll get you seated. And come on, have a good time. Just know if you want to sit inside or outside, and we'll get you fixed up. - And Doug, I know you were there not too long. Go ahead, a nice meal. - Yeah, you guys are making me hungry. I think that's the premier spot on the Eastern Shore. We've watched the sunset and enjoy, like I said earlier this year on the show, the best food on the Eastern Shore, it's really great. And come join us on War Eagle TV.com as well. We'll be following the girls over at the Palmer Cup in Ireland, and we've got some great new things coming up for football season this year, excited about what's ahead for the fall. - Well, I'll tell you, you got, you seem as if you got some momentum going with War Eagle TV. You got a lot of things happening, I'm gonna get picking up more and more fans, and so congratulations on that, Douglas. - Thank you, Andy, I always appreciate it. And our Twitter page is @TV_War Eagle. That's a place to follow us for all the breaking news there. But looking forward to the fall, it's gonna be really exciting this year. - Yeah, I'm ready for some football, I can promise you, I am, I am certainly ready for it. By the way, I want to mention Boomstike Kitchen. We've got some, hopefully some news coming up soon. Matt, you're kind of privy to it, and we can pull this off, it'll be, it's gonna be pretty neat. - It's going to be big. Looking forward to Boomstike's success, Boomst's continued success, a really great typhoon. You guys love typhoon out there, go get some, and you can't beat not only the food that she creates, but the smile she gives you when you buy it. She's a great person, she's a lot of fun. - She is a mess, there's no doubt. You know we got some great sponsors to show, of course, McConnell Automotive, Appreciate Mitch, and his great staff there, Shrickson Golf, Bujo's Cajon Grill, you've been with us the whole time, Matt, it's been eight or nine years, you've been with us now. Glenn Lake's Golf Club in Foley, of course, David Muge on his staff, do a fantastic job. Gotta say thanks to Ben Murphy, with Ben Murphy Roofing. He's a great supporter of ours in the Eastern Shore, Toyota, and Hyundai. Also, hey, if you have an opportunity, you want to get out and play some golf, we mention it, go down to Glenn Lakes and play, but also, maybe you want to check out craft farms right there in Gulf Shores. That's the only Arnold Palmer signature design course in Alabama. Also, you got the Peninsula Golf course, not too far away, fantastic places to play. I wanna thank Lisa Johnson Realtor, Fair Hope Golf Works. I'll tell you Avery and JT do a wonderful job and you're a product of theirs, Matt. - Absolutely, they have taught me to buy the clubs that are right for me. (laughing) That's right. Also, thanks to Boomstick Kitchen and PSR Radio Network. It is a fourth of July weekend. We hope that you will stay safe. Don't drink and drive, don't drink and drive, don't drink and drive. Buckle up, make sure you wear your seatbelt and watch out 'cause the cops are out there. I can promise you, they would follow me from the beach the other day and I'm doing the speed limit. (laughing) Hey, Doug, thanks for hanging out with us, brother. Have safe travels. - Good to hear you guys. We'll see you soon. - All right, buddy, there you go. Doug Halton, Matt, as always, thank you, sir. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. - You as well, sir, enjoyed it, and we'll see you next week. - Wanna thank our producer, Steve Stanley, for hanging out with us and pushing all the buttons, keeping us on air, and thank you for tuning in to Southern Fairway Sports Radio, I'm Randy Bergen. Hey, let's hit a knee, say a prayer, God bless America. Be safe out there. We'll see you next week. Bye-bye, everybody. (upbeat music) (upbeat music)
