The Preformance at the Presidential Debate - Mobile Mornings - Friday 6-28-24
We're looking at some of these headlines as we look over the Biden performance last night during the debate. The seven minutes after eight o'clock on FM talk one of six five and mobile mornings Dan and Dalton good to have you along here this morning I guess you know the one thing I would say about last night is that remember we were talking about a large percentage of Americans really are going to get it and watch it at the time or at least they're going to consume it in some way clips highlights low lights conversation on it whatever even if you missed the debate last night and you're a casual voter maybe there's no way that you can escape the coverage of what happened last night today no even if you said you know I'm not gonna I'm not gonna bother you're waking up this morning like wow what did I miss yeah and you said it yesterday might have been while we were communicating during the debate you said I want to see what these MSNBC folks CNN folks New York Times what they're saying immediately after the debate before they have time really marching orders right and the headlines you see this morning might point more towards where those marching orders are directed but after the debate and we'll play some of this audio from around the media immediately afterwards MSNBC while trying to kind of band aid up the performance oh he had a cold oh he you know this and that they were still saying you know it might be time to look at maybe other options CNN more direct after the debate mmm-hmm Van Jones almost started crying but we'll play a lot of that audio on the way you know and so I apologize but like Dolphton and I were going back and forth during the day I was in bed basically I'm just watching on my phone yeah well that counts counts but I'm like good God I mean I was you know mortified by some of Biden's appearance and and I don't mean we know the guy's old but there's a reason he was away for a week and not in anybody's sight and trying to get you know trying to ace this test and he did not yeah a couple funny things MSNBC said that I noted on my Twitter page one thing they said was that he was just over prepared they gave him way too much information and it all jumbled together another thing and I think it was Chris Wallace who was saying well actually FDR who is the greatest president of all time in his words he was in much worse shape in his final term but no one knew when he didn't get these moments because there weren't like cameras wow they are digging deep try to cover this thing well here's what we know in American history have we ever witnessed something like that I have it now and I think the bar was pretty low yeah that's all I'll say you know you can patch it up the way you want to but you know what we witnessed last night was not something that we'd ever seen before or on the text line let me know if I'm wrong so just give you a couple of clips you know the lowlights basically is what they are he was stumbling around a good bit and this is where he kind of the story says it'd be the most replayed political moment of the night maybe of the year maybe of all time eighty one year old incumbent he kind of lost his train of thought and he ended up rolling into Medicare I guess check it out making sure that we're able to make every single solitary person eligible for what I've been able to do with the covid I just give me with dealing with everything we have to do with more if we finally beat Medicare thank you president Biden president Trump was right he did beat medicaid beat it to death and he's destroying medicare because all of these people are coming in they're putting them on medicare they're putting them on social security they're going to destroy social security this man is going to single-handedly destroy social security right when you said that Trump took that ball and went down to court in tomahawk dunked on top of them yeah that's kind of what happened right there it's it's just incredible what we watch last night and then when he was talking about the border I you know I this may have been the most viral moment until they started talking about their golf game let's let's visit the conversation about the border moving to we get the total ban the total initiative relative to what we're going to do with more border patrol and more asylum officers president Trump I really don't know what he said at the end of this and I don't think he knows what he said either so there was some of the what we all saw together and they did have there were bits in that 90 plus minutes of uh some substantive conversation get to that in just a second but I mentioned the the two talking about their golf game and this came after they were talking about lowering childcare costs which believe it or not something important to me and out of americans yeah and you didn't really get any clear answers from either candidate on that but then they started talking about whether Biden is fit enough to be president and then asked Trump the same question Trump was like it's no contest I'd recently won two club championships playing golf and then they they started arguing about who has the better golf game and if you can wow me up right there this is part of that I'd be happy to have a driving contest and I got my handicap which when I was vice president down to a six and by the way I told you before I'm happy to play golf if you carry your own bag did you do it that's the biggest when I was a six handicap of all hours and eight handicap that let's see if you swing I know you swing president Trump we're going to let's not act like children yeah that's that's basically how it went let's get to what you maybe call some of the substantive conversation at one point in the debate Biden attempted to blame the inflation during his presidency presidency on the preceding administration Trump there's a lot going on but in inflation he caused it by his tremendous amount of reasons yeah and they talked some about inflation Trump said hey I had I think he said zero percent I had very low inflation and it stayed that way the first 14 months you were in office then it exploded and then a little further on he went on to expand his thoughts on inflation here's Trump and he caused the inflation he's blaming inflation and he's right it's been very bad he caused the inflation and it's killing black families and Hispanic families and just about everybody it's killing people they can't buy groceries anymore they can't you look at the cost of food where it's doubled tripled and quadrupled they can't live they're not living anymore he caused this inflation I gave him a country with no essentially no inflation it was perfect it was so good all he had to do is leave it alone he destroyed it with his green new scam and all of the other all this money that's being thrown out the window he caused inflation as sure as you're sitting there and on the issue of abortion Trump said he approved of the Supreme Court's recent decision to allow the sale of that medication nationwide and he agreed with states that restrictions should allow exceptions for rape incest in the life of the mother Biden jumped on Trump he said the Supreme Court's overturn of Roe v Wade in 2022 was a great thing that's what Trump said Biden said it's been a terrible thing what you've done and he referenced Trump's nomination of three conservative court justices he said quote this is a little like saying we're going to turn the civil rights back to the states let each state have a different role at another point Biden attacked Trump noted his recent conviction in New York and Trump of course pushed back and talked about the president's son here's that they destroyed and deleted all of the information they found because they found out we were by the way he's talking about the January 6th commission here right we were right and they deleted and destroyed all of the information they should go to jail for that if a Republican did that they go to thank you president Trump president Biden i want to give you a minute the only person in this stage is a convicted felon is the man i'm looking at right now and the fact of the matter is he isn't when he's telling you simply not true the fact is that there was no effort on his part to stop what was going on up in Capitol Hill and all those people every one of those are convicted deserves to be convicted and Trump you know he referenced Nancy Pelosi in the control she was supposed to have over the national guard at the Capitol that day but then a little later on this is when he brings up Hunter Biden he was asked about whether he would uh seek revenge if he were to take office on his political opponents well i said my retribution is going to be success we're going to make this country successful again because right now it's a failing nation my retribution is going to be success but when he talks about a convicted felon his son is a convicted felon at a very high level his son is convicted going to be convicted probably numerous other times should have been convicted before but his justice department let the statute of limitations lapse on the most important things but he could be a convicted felon as soon as he gets out of office Joe could be a convicted felon with all of the things that he's done he's done horrible things all of the death cause at the the border telling the Ukrainian people that we're going to want a billion dollars you change the prosecutor otherwise you're not getting a billion dollars if i ever said that that's quid pro quo that we're not going to do anything we're not going to give you a billion dollars unless you change your prosecutor having to do with the son this man is a criminal this man you're lucky you're lucky i did nothing wrong we'd have a system that was rigged and disgusting i did nothing wrong so there's that and then as far as the actual debate performance uh we'll we'll leave it off with this as uh trump called biden a man cheering candidate for china for getting money from china and then in his closing statement mocked biden as an ineffective complainer a lot of people said this was one of trump's strongest moments of the debate like so many politicians this man is just a complainer he said we want to do this we want to do that we want to get rid of this tax that tax but he doesn't do anything he doesn't do all he does is make our country unsafe by allowing millions and millions of people to pour in our military doesn't respect him we looked like fools in afghanistan uh we didn't stop israel it was such a horrible thing that would have never happened it should have never happened iran was broke anybody that did business with iran including china they couldn't do business with the united states they all passed iran was broke they had no money for hamas or his bula for terra no money whatsoever again you crayon should have never happened he talks about all the stuff that he didn't do it for three and a half years we're living in hell we have the palestidians and we have everybody else rioting all over the place you talk about charlissville this is a hundred time charlissville a thousand times the whole country is exploding because of you because they don't respect you and they have to respect their president and they don't respect you throughout the world so all of these things we're in a failing nation but it's not going to be failing anymore we're going to make it great again so there you go some low light some highlights from the debate itself we'll get into some response from the media and other democrat uh potential presidential candidates but uh phone lines are stacking up text lines mm-hmm let's go to the phones real quick and uh start with line one talk with uh david pressed and good morning david the only people that are more brain-dead than biden or the people that think that pride biden won the debate well i i can't imagine there's a single soul out there that will actually say that without without the fact that i uh snare drum and a laughing audience afterward thirty three percent in the polls say that biden won that's incredible yeah uh now guys i have a question for you sure what's more of a uh who's more of a uh disastrous crash joe biden last night or the boating 737 max plant yeah well uh they're different and they're similar at the same time uh you know we were talking that i've never i've never i never witnessed anything like what i saw last night in the in my life's history it was it was stunning it was shocking it was sad it was uh i'm sure um and the thing is we all knew it yep we all knew it but you're so bad that it caused the liberal democrats to finally start saying out loud last night on the media what everybody's been saying behind closed uh closed doors but this guy isn't there i mean you know you're uh you're top in the bottom of the hour newsbreak uh uh top headline is political headline that says a biden is toast well that's an insult to toast you know yeah i think waffle house afterwards i know uh and i wonder if he ordered his hash browns scattered and his eggs scrambled well uh yes eggs are already scrambled it would appear thank you thank you david let's uh go to uh line three real quick here talk with uh walker in balding county good morning walker uh morning um you know they they have medias emphasizing on two or three things that trump you know in best you know embellished but every time behind open his mouth he was lying at one more point um you could see it on the faces of the CNN reporters i felt sorry for them after the second question or so they realized what a what a how then what how far down his mind i mean his mind is gone yeah i think they realized that i feel sorry for yeah you can feel sorry for you know those verbal okay all right let's turn that i'm sorry fella okay i felt sorry for him too but he's our president i feel sorry for america it's terrible yeah i know so right now i'm kind of scouring around looking for a world reaction to all of this much much much of that is twitter and stuff like that but world leaders i guess in the next day or two we'll begin to uh yeah cnn the uh eight person table at msnbc what are they saying directly after this debate uh no it's not wait till tomorrow morning yep no no no time to prep minutes into the debate and it continues right now john can it involves party strategists it involves elected officials it involves fundraisers and they're having conversations about the president's performance which they think was dismal which they think will hurt other people down the party in the ticket and they're having conversations about what they should do about it some of those conversations include should we go to the white house and ask the president step aside others other the conversations are about should prominent democrats go public with that call but because they feel this debate was so terrible yeah it was this in the works we talked about how this might have been in the works early debate biden falls flat on his face let's replace him at the convention the party who says they're trying to uphold democracy and that trump's going to ruin it respect the vote of the people the popular uh with a will of the people and uh one bad debate from biden and they're saying hey all these people have voted for them in the primaries that's too bad uh we need to move on remember the vet rama swami he called this back in the primary debates i also want to close with one message to the democrat party into this force that joe biden is going to be your nominee we know he's not even the president of the united states he's a puppet for the managerial class so have the guts to step up and be honest about who you're actually going to put up so we can have an honest debate biden should step aside in his candidacy now so we can see whether it's new sum or michelle obama whoever else all right just tell us the truth so we can have an honest debate yeah and they all started coming out of the woodwork the last few days yesterday article in axios michelle obama doesn't like biden because of uh what that family did to her friend i guess who is uh hunter's ex uh joy read who has friends all over uh she talked after the debate um i too was on the phone throughout much of the debate um with um obama it world people with the democrats um with people who are political operatives with campaign operatives my phone really never stopped buzzing throughout and the universal reaction was somewhere approaching panic um the people who were texting with me were very concerned um about uh president biden seeming extremely feeble yeah chuk-tah same network i i've been talking to a lot of leaders in the democratic party elected um coalition leaders there's a full-on panic about this performance um not like oh this is recoverable it is more of a okay um he's got to step aside there's a lot of that chatter um this is this is about as bad of a performance in order to uh that biden could have delivered uh in if his goal was to try to sort of calm the waters among democrats and uh last from the media here let me play chris wallis over on cnn but the two of them decided after november of 2022 that he was going to seek the presidency when there were so many people who thought he should have turned it over to a new generation and this has been quite frankly uh a a car accident in slow motion that we've seen over and in building and questioning it and you know as as has been pointed out joe biden sought this debate at the remarkably early time because he knew he was losing and he needed to change the narrative and he did change the narrative he'd sunk his campaign today uh and if i was just very very frank breakdance of all of this in real time yeah when you're just you're you're you've just seen it and yeah these people are political operatives for sure in their their their media and they certainly had their their beliefs and uh but man that was um revealing comments from all of the above it was uh tommy tuberville senator tuberville will be on with jeff port 905 this morning senator katie brit will be on with jeff port 1030 this morning your response from both representatives from alabama that are in the united states senate uh text line chris says the only the one thing i can draw from watching the debate how can any sane adult possibly vote for what definitely appears to be an idling old man uh representing us on the world stage like dan said uh if you were waiting to invade if you're waiting for anything on the international stage i mean they already knew it but why not do it now look who's president well look at the things that have been done under his presidency and the international aggression that we've seen uh during this time royan spanish fort the democratic party should be ashamed of itself the writing was on the wall that this is what was coming it's a an open convention in august and what i'm sure will be a uh an eventful chicago you know protest uh it's probably going to be pretty crazy especially if they have an open convention you know i i guess the top four names right now if they were to replace biden uh comel hairs the current vp gavinusum the california governor those two with uh immediate responses last night on uh the channels uh carrying the debates and um outside of that hillary clinton michelle obama those are the four names we're hearing comila harris was asked in an interview last night this was on cnn with uh anderson cooper who ended up pressing her pretty hard i'm not gonna play the whole thing but he's asking her about whether biden should step aside john king has described uh panic inside the democratic party right now because of president biden's performance in tonight's debate he's been hearing from democratic lawmakers and others around the country um some within your own party are wondering president biden should even step aside what do you say to that listen first of all what we saw tonight is the president making a very clear contrast with donald trump on all the issues that matter to the american people yes there was a slow start but it was a strong finish and what became very clear through the course of the night is that joe biden is fighting on behalf of the american people on substance on policy on performance joe biden is extraordinarily strong and i'm sorry on substance and policy and performance tonight i mean his the president's performance tonight clearly was disappointing for his supporters cnn as reporting democratic lawmakers watching the debate were worried worried about the president's performance once that it was a a disaster another called it a train wreck those are democrats especially worried that biden did not punch back on trump's lies listen people can debate on style points but ultimately this election and who is the president of the united states has to be about substance yeah gavin new some over on msnbc was asked the same questions he's very smooth i tell you as a politician you were out there getting a chorus of questions about whether biden should step down there is panic that is set in uh well there is panic that is set in among people who have watched this debate who are democrats people who are strategist and some even inside democratic campaigns do you think it's unfounded well i think it's unhelpful uh and i think it's unnecessary uh we've got to go in we've got to keep our heads high and as i say we've got to have the back of this president you don't turn your back because of one performance what kind of party does that it's been a master class fifteen point six million uh jobs that's eight times more than the last three republican presidents combined the only thing the last three republican presidents have a comment is recessions democrats deliver this president is delivered we need to deliver for him at this moment with all due respect the more time we we we we start having these conversations go down these rabbit holes unhelpful toward democracy a fate and future of this country the world they need us right now to step up and that's exactly what i intend to do yeah so deflecting from both of those uh potential candidates uh i mentioned the story from axios michelle obama yesterday uh laying out basically not directly but through sources why she is not a biden supporter and then you have hillary clinton with her book because she's trying to work her way into another crack at the office and uh she was talking a lot before the debate about how things may go really lowering the bar for biden and uh will it be one of those four candidates if they do decide to replace i guess we'll just uh have to wait and see joell in summerdale uh texting at two five one three four three oh one oh six if biden thinks he could carry a golf bag or even swing a golf club biden can't even write a bicycle and hold it up without falling over uh as they were debating their golf game last night another texter here last night was an example of elder abuse dr jill should be ashamed another texter as his pop gun so there was one guy on nbc after that said everything trump said wasn't true can't think of his name and that that's kind of been the the line biden stumbles trump lies yeah that that's been that's been the that's been the fall back that um you know when you if you're gonna biden's thing was obvious trump maybe was more um tougher to to detect so what are the lies they're talking about and trump does you know he overdoes it with his uh best ever smartest ever most ever all that kind of stuff where he doesn't need to do that yeah because that's the only thing that gives them something yeah uh let's go to this texter and i have some corresponding audio if i can get to it uh texter said um i'd like to hear from all those fact checkers cnn had set up well here was the uh the biden fact check from cnn after last night he said he's the only president in a while who didn't have any troops dying anywhere in the world troops have of course died on his watch he said he's put in a fifteen dollar per shot cap on insulin medicare is a thirty five dollar a month cap he said it's a two hundred dollar cap on overall drug spending in medicare it's two thousand dollars a year he said the border now has fewer crossings than when trump was in office that's generally not true he said or at least strongly suggested unemployment was at fifteen percent when he took office it was endorsed him no it's union supported the border bill he'd supported never endorsed him himself that's the cnn fact check yeah that might tell you more than anything that uh it's over for biden uh cheap fake backstraps taker texting in the adderall wore off after the first few questions and after that biden was toast the only thing i wish trump would have added in his response to january six the democrats she made said very clear that's what i do and she's young but relatively young probably admit there you know 30 or so and highly educated i suppose and she was talking about the party as it is right now and she was talking about all this shift and the palestinian thing in particular it's got her all worked up uh but her party as it exists today and she says please understand what i do for a living is i raise money for democrats i'm not a fan of conservatives even youtube guys i'm not but she says this party she's keeping her job by raising the money but she she was talking about how the policies and the far left fringe of the party are driving it into the ground and driving it away from people like her and when i say people like her please understand she's not a moderate she's already pretty far to the left yeah and she says she feels this party slipping away what is a reaction to last night to somebody like that i mean can you imagine if you are a democratic fundraiser that's your job you might have a couple of tough weeks uh coming up and i i just don't see you know look a lot of you just as a citizen i don't see how Biden i think they have no choice but to get somebody i i i don't know in what world or what circumstances allow this guy to bounce back and be forgiven after what we saw last night because we've never seen last night ever before no so since we've never seen it before what's the political answer to this i don't know yeah but it's got to be something well will they get him to bow out then or will they make him bow out you know that's the question and and how do you how do you how do you tell the quote unquote most powerful man in the world that you're now taking authority over him he may not take to that very well yeah and he's gotten the primary right he's been there long enough through this voting process and but you know in this new age and folks will say well there's no way you can put a candidate in with three four months before the election and give them a long enough runway to win the election but i told you this morning these viral videos hoktua went viral uh world famous over the course of just a few days if you put a noosome or Kamala Harris or Michelle Obama or Hillary Clinton there's plenty enough time for the democrats to work this into their favor and at least make it a close race at the very least and the reason is trump because trump is the target trump is you know he shared a headline biden stumbles trump lies so that made it like they each slipped up right yeah uh when you watched it you could see yeah trump he kind of stretches the truth from time to time to something he does okay but there was no comparison between the the two and so i i think the attacks on trump since that that's that's a that's a gift the democrats see that it's a gift because that can be the their their playbook is going to be just hammer away at what he is and what they perceive him to be and he's it through the years he's given them stuff to work with and then they take it and they multiply it yeah if you're a republican i don't think there's any way you want biden sure replaced as president he was talking to you about there's no way a president any president can change the economy that's a joke the pipeline we all know what that would have been that would have been competition for the others and when you put other companies where they have to like either lower their price you know to draw the customers in then that can change the economy because everybody then goes low on the gas gas rules the economy ever family dollars forward these stores gonna say well we had you know what the gas diesel went up and these was always higher than gas so we have to make make up the difference in our sales right here we go they asked Donald Trump one of the questions was about the uh child here this is what i think he's starting to learn he would have said what he was going to do with which we all know would have been probably very positive but every time he does this before an election or a period of time everything he's mentioned about Biden has jumped on and did it a different way and i think he intentionally docked it you know he did he was answering the previous statements that Biden did yeah then talk to him and the other and that said that was an intentional thing i promise you i believe that with all my heart was intentional i would have done the same thing because every time you tell him what you're gonna do he takes and uses part of yours and he twists it around so well this is my bill no it's not your bill and this is the fact we all know the economy was at one of the highest levels our overall debt had been reduced down really low and the once again with Gordon Dale now the other thing is he mentioned about a sexual deviance remember when we all used to talk about Biden in the way he would hug kids and try to kiss women and talk to kiss kids who's the sexual deviant person here well see people got to go back and start realize looking at what's been happening and realize make their notes and keep their notes in front of you because there's so much stuff that Donald Trump could have threw at him i really think he at one point felt sorry for him probably did James thanks for the call and that was a conversation that Gordon Dale had with that believe a journalist from the wall street journal he would he wrote an article like the things you can't blame on the president you know so that when it went any given president is an office careful either had to do with covid spending on both sides and all these new bills passed with the help of in some ways a republican congress here with biden here lately so i would have liked to hear trump answer a few more of these questions directly i know he was rebutting a lot of the comments the biden was making i heard them both talk about all of the different handouts they'll give all of these different types of factions in america but when they ask about lowering child care costs which affects all americans the growth of america didn't get a straight answer that and something that kind of peeves me uh comel harris and and uh gavin new something like i said dalton even if even if you did not watch the debate last night you cannot run you can't run fast enough to get away from all the coverage the this morning's just the beginning of it and so so what happens after that that puts the casual voter now is going to be very aware of what happened last night and the casual voter might be somebody that's not at all you know it in tie to any party really and and might just be uh but but but they're not that his performance is going to be just situationally unavoidable you're gonna you're gonna have to see it and it's gonna it's gonna and if he continues to be the candidate that's gonna weigh on the on the election it's extra here said the sad thing is that these two are the only options the american people have well there's a third option there's actually fourth and fifth but uh rfk who wasn't invited to the debate he did his own debate last night hmm and uh the funniest tweet i saw is they said you have uh rfk responding to the debate in real time and he actually had a moderator but they said this moderator looks like he actually beat up one of the real moderators and stole their suit he was kind of uh maybe a little disheveled but uh very funny very funny uh tweet there i didn't see that texture here wise gavin new some trending as the replacement he's a failed governor who was nearly recalled but he does have that major market hair which appeals to the slow thinker crowd out there it's because and this is toothless bamory it's because he's a smooth politician that's why that's why he's he's so dangerous he's smooth in front of the camera he has a good look he's the exact opposite of uh how biden looked last night he's able to you know dodge duck dip dive and dodge as
