Welcome to The Big Success Show. Today, we'll tell you how to get ahead by getting out. The Big Success Show, with George and Mary Lynn. I heard one of the members of ABBA, the band ABBA, talking about how he came up with one of their songs. The song was "Take a Chance on Me." Do you remember that song? Oh, yeah. There you go. I can't really do anything on key. That's pretty good. But he talks about how the parts of the song works goes, "Take a Chance, Take a Chance, Take a Chance, Take a Chance, Take a Chance, Take a Chance, Take a Chance, Take a Chance, Take a Chance." That came to him while he was out jogging. And the rhythm of his jogging, the rhythm of his feet as he was going down the road, basically, that's how he came up with the song. Wow. Isn't that incredible? I mean, you never know where a great idea is going to be. And it's funny, how many times it will happen in a place that you'd least expect it. I mean, just think of all of those creative ideas that you've had while you were in the shower. In the shower? I think that's all wet, Mary Lynn. I'm too busy singing in the shower to come up with any good ideas. I know it kind of stifles my creativity, too, when you're singing. Imagine. Have you ever noticed, though, when we get stuck trying to come up with an idea or a thought or the next point in the show for big success? And so a lot of times we'll just walk away from, you know, get away from the computers, get away from the desk for a few minutes. And there's just something about the act of standing up and going to a different place within minutes. It seems like we've got the idea. Yeah, so it really does pay sometimes to just vary up your routine because if you're always doing the same thing the same way, what happens is we can get stale. So when you mix it up, you know, maybe even drive to work on a different road or get into work a little bit later as long as you don't get in trouble, take lunch at a different time, hang out with a different group of friends, whatever it may be, variety can spark new ideas. That's assuming, of course, for me to hang out with a different group of friends implies that I have a group of friends. Well, find a group of friends here in your case. But the thing is, you know, that's great for preventive measures, Mary Lynn, but if you're stuck now, sometimes it pays just to change your scenery now. Get out, even if it's just for a very short time. Go for a walk, move around, do anything to just change a scenery and get away. And you'll find that the idea that you are looking for will often be there when you do this, when you do change your scenery or change up the routine. And coming up, how Beethoven got his ideas. Today we're talking about getting ahead by getting out and we talked about how it pays to vary your routine and just change your scenery to spark that new idea. And, you know, the incredibly creative musical mind of Beethoven. Even he would get stuck every once in a while. Isn't that encouraging? Yes, it is, actually. And to get ahead, he would get out. In fact, here's a quote from Beethoven in the book Beethoven the Man and the Artist has revealed in his own words. "You ask me where I get my ideas. That I cannot tell you with certainty. They come unsummed, directly, indirectly. I could seize them with my hands, out in the open air, in the woods, while walking, in the silence of the nights, early in the morning, incited by moods, which are translated by the poet into words, by me into tones that sound, and roar and storm about me until I have set them down in notes." Whew, that's pretty heavy. Pretty powerful stuff, isn't it? And just think if he was around in this day and age, he could go to a coffee shop, pretty stuff like that. You can find a written summary of today's show on our site at Big Success, that's bigwith2gsuccess.com, and tell us how you get out and how you spark creativity when you're stuck in a rut. Tune in next time because we're going to talk about the fact that if loving me is wrong, I don't want to be right. Oh, geez. I don't know about this one.
