>> Welcome to The Big Success Show. Today, we'll talk about merging your networking worlds. >> The Big Success Show with George and Mary Lynn. >> We recently were invited to write a guest post over at Spatially Relevant, John Gattrell is the guy who was responsible for that site, and we wrote about networking both online and off. >> We do have a link to our guest post on our site today at bigsuccess.com, and what prompted that topic was, I have a friend who I was talking about using social media, like Facebook, and she said to me, you know, I really just think that's a waste of time. Now, I do see her point, you know, she has a stable job, and she's living in a city where she's probably never gonna leave. She's active in that community, and she does have a family, so her time is limited. >> Well, and I think she's certainly not alone in that opinion, right? But I think online networking definitely does offer some benefits. Now, granted, it offers benefits for some more than others, but the thing is, I think everybody should at least dip their toes into the water because the value in online networking is it's much easier to find people that you haven't talked to in years. Maybe it's that person you worked with right out of college who's now the president of a company. You know, you can catch up, you can keep up and meet up. >> I mean, a prime example, I'm hooking up with some of my old high school classmates. I have another friend who said, well, if I haven't talked with that person for 20 years, I don't need to now, not missing anything, but that's not true. It's interesting to see what businesses they're in now, and some of them are in line with what we're doing at big success. So, you know, we're gonna be able to talk and help each other with some of the ins and outs of the business. >> And I think the bottom line is really, it's just social media is an easier way, at least for me. It's an easier way to find people and to keep in touch with people, because, you know, I'm not gonna write a letter, I've probably lost their phone number years ago, you know. >> Even their email, you know. >> Absolutely, yeah, absolutely. So, it's just a great way to be able to find people and keep up with them. >> Right, now, it's also very important, though, to have relationships built in the offline world as well. >> That's true, I don't think we'd work too well on line mailing. I really like getting to see you in person. >> Well, that is nice, isn't it? >> Well, obviously, Big Success is an internet-based company, and so being in the social media world and connecting with people online is important, but it's very important for us as well to meet offline. In fact, we met John offline. We met him at a conference. >> That's right, and, you know, I think that John and his wife, Emily, I think we instantly hit it off with, and it's from our point of view. >> Great personality. >> Absolutely. And the thing is, I'm glad we met them offline, because, you know, the personalities that we were able to see is just a much richer experience than what you can get just from interacting with someone online. >> That's true, but what's been nice about the online world is we've been able to keep in touch with them. >> That's right. >> Because they live a number of states away from us, and coming up, we're gonna talk about the power of merging your networking worlds. >> Today, we're talking about the importance of networking, and in particular, we're comparing the two worlds, offline and online. And the thing is, Marilyn, I think that once you really understand it, the real power is in merging the two. Now, whenever we hear about a merger in the corporate world, it seems like they always talk about this word synergy. That somehow, by combining the two together, they lead to something greater. The whole is greater than the parts. And I think the same thing happens when you merge your networking worlds. >> And to take this one step further, think about marketing principles. You know, you don't just use one form of marketing when you're putting on a campaign. You wanna use a combination to get better results. >> That's right, and networking is marketing, at least that's part of the reason to network, right? And so, by putting the two together, by networking, online and offline, the results are going to be better than if you just do one. You've got two hands. Why would you not use one hand? You use them both. >> Bottom line is, online or offline, it's all about people and about building relationships. >> You can get a written summary of today's show on our site at Big Success, that's big with 2gsuccess.com, and we also link to our guest post on Spatially Relevant. >> That's right, and next time, we'll talk about persistence and perseverance. Are they the same? >> Until then, here's to your big success. >> The Big Success Show at B-I-G-G Success.com. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. [BLANK_AUDIO]
