The Power of Imagination
How you can change the world according to J.K. Rowling. Read our show summary at biggsuccess.com.
Welcome to the Big Success Show. Today, we'll discuss the power of imagination. The Big Success Show with George and Mary Lynn. JK Rowling, that's known as the author of the Harry Potter series. And Mary Lynn, if my memory serves, Harry Potter was the second colonel on the television show, Mash, right? That's Colonel Potter. You dumbled door. All right. Well, JK Rowling recently delivered an exceptional speech for the commencement ceremony at Harvard University. And you can find a link to the full speech on our site today at BigSuccess.com. And it's an amazing discussion of the power of failure and imagination. And it's definitely worth your time to read the full text. Or watch the video. The link provides both. And there's so much to it. And Mary Lynn, you know, where do we start, right? Yeah, exactly. Well, since we try to keep the show to five minutes or so, we finally settled on a very compelling portion. And she said in that speech, quote, "We do not need magic to change the world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already. We have the power to imagine better," unquote. And you know, George, she's right. Each and every one of us has the power within us to change the world. Do you doubt it? Man, I doubt it sometimes. But I'll tell you what, Mary Lynn, Steve Jobs didn't doubt it. He imagined a world where every person could have the same computing power that only large organizations had at that point. He dreamed of a world where computers were so user-friendly, everybody could use them. John F. Kennedy didn't doubt it. He had the vision that man could walk on the moon. He set forth his vision with the power of words to direct an entire country's resources toward that mission. A short time later, Neil Armstrong uttered those famous words, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." Martin Luther King didn't doubt it. He had a dream that people would be judged solely by the contributions they made to society, not by the color of their skin. His dream led to a movement to bring equal opportunity to all. You may say, "I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one." I hope someday you'll join us. Coming up, we're going to tell you what you and only you do have. Today we're talking about the power of imagination. And we've talked about some famous people whose imaginations changed the world. But you too have the power to imagine a better world, to make a difference in your own life and in the lives of others. Your imagination flows from your unique genetic makeup and your personal experiences. No one else who has ever walked on this earth is here now or ever will be. Can possibly duplicate what you have and who you are. Ooh, I'm feeling good about that. I'm good. You are one of a kind and it's up to you to live up to the potential that is within you. So just imagine. Apparently, I tell you, I'm not going to be able to get that song out of my head all day today. Imagine that. So tell us, what do you imagine? How will you leave the world a better place? What are you doing now to make a difference in the lives of others? We'd love to know. Share it with us on our blog today at BigSuccess.com. That's also where you'll find a written summary of today's show and also that link to the phenomenal commencement address that J.K. Rowling did for Harvard. You absolutely owe it to yourself to check it out. And next time, we'll talk about how to know if you should continue renting out your property or sell it. Until then, here's to your Big Success.
