Welcome to the Big Success Show. Today, we'll discuss how to reclaim your weekend. The Big Success Show with George and Mary Lynn. You know, Mary Lynn, I think a lot of us spend most of our weekend just catching up on everything we didn't get done during the week. That or some sleep, right? Yeah, that's right. We work hard all week only to work hard on the weekend and we work our jobs and then we have this long list of chores to do at home and so then when the weekend's over, we're wondering where it went. Absolutely. In fact, I think I work harder on the weekend or maybe I'm hardly working. You say and I give you a big honeydew list? You do, honeydew. Well, today we want to talk about how to reclaim your weekend and there's really two phases to it. The first is just getting ready to do it and then we can actually get it done. So let's focus on the first part, getting ready. Here's something we suggest. Track all of your time for one week, everything that you do, both at work and at home and at the end of the week, look at your journal. Are there things that you don't need to do at all? Or maybe there are things that need to be done, just not by you. And for those things that you don't need to do, take a page from the corporate playbook, outsource them. Oh, yeah. Isn't that awesome? Now, we're not necessarily talking about your kids as a source of labor here. Oh, they're cheap, right? That's what my parents did. But you may want to get the tasks outside of the family so you can enjoy that family time. Find a business to clean your house, mow your yard, or do some handy work. Hey, keep going, Mary Lynn. It's starting to sound really good. You know, the thing is more and more families are actually doing this. They are outsourcing. And you know, the thing is people will say, well, but I love doing yard work. Well, the new yard work, just take those things that you don't like that are just tasks on a to-do list and get them outside the family unit. And for those tasks that you need to do, or maybe you can't afford to pay someone else to do yet, work them into your work day routine. I know you're saying, come on, and like weeks are already busy enough, but try to squeeze a few of your weekend chores into the week. Yeah, for example, instead of having this huge pile of laundry to do on the weekend, just do a few loads throughout the week. And that's going to lessen the load, so to speak. And the other thing you can do is rethink your work schedule. You know, I have a friend who always felt the need to work on Saturday mornings. He'd only go in for a couple hours, but he just always felt like that was really productive time. Well, he decided to rework his work schedule. And since he's a morning person, he just went in an extra 30 minutes early. Now, he doesn't feel the need to work on Saturday. So now we've given you some ideas on how to get ready to reclaim your weekend and coming up, how to get it done. You need some downtime if you're going to be productive during the week. And that's why it's so important to enjoy your weekend, even if it's just a little bit, right? We talked about preparing to do it. Now let's talk about how to do it. Write down a bunch of stuff that you'd like to do to get in the spirit of doing something fun. Get the whole family involved. The purpose of this is sometimes it's hard to know what to do because there's so many things that you want to do. So creating this list allows you to pick and choose depending on your mode. It's your weekend menu. And the thing is, now that you have your list and schedule one activity for next weekend, do that for a few weekends and schedule a second one the following weekend. You're going to take some baby steps so that you start reclaiming your weekend. Because if you don't schedule these things, the odds are you'll just keep plugging away with work. You'll never take that needed time for yourself, your family and your friends. We have links to some free applications that can help you with your planning and scheduling for weekend fun. And you'll find them on our blog today at BigSuccess.com. That's also where we have a written summary of today's show. Let's get our big quote for the day, George. Our big quote today comes from Douglas Paggle who said, "Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow." So color your world by reclaiming your weekend. And next time, we're sure you won't be uplifted by our show. We're going to talk about 10 ways to demotivate yourself. I think it's already working. Until then, here's to your big success. The Big Success Show at B-I-G-G Success.com. [BLANK_AUDIO]
