Welcome to The Big Success Show! Today we ask, "Are you choking your chicken?" The Big Success Show, with George and Mary Lynn. Are you choking your chicken, huh, Mary Lynn? I thought we were asking. Well, this show is inspired by a recent episode of Survivor. And in case you're not familiar, there are two tribes in the competition. One of the tribes, the Malachal Tribe, won a couple of chickens in a reward competition. Since food is scarce, the eggs from these chickens are extremely valuable. But the chickens themselves also, obviously, would provide a much-needed feast. So, episode 7 of Survivor begins with Aussie, one of the tribe members, angry because Tracy, another tribe member, wants to kill their chickens. Aussie likes the eggs because they're renewable. Tracy thinks the protein from the whole chicken is needed now by many of the tribe members. So, today we want to talk about the chicken and the egg strategy. And a lot of people choke their chicken. What was that? I guess that's the chicken joke, you know? Yes. But what happens when they choke their chicken? They don't get any eggs. So, let's talk about three situations in real life, where people choke their chicken. Well, that chicken, at least he's not running around like a chicken with his head cut off his teeth. Yes. The first is, March Madness is winding down. You see this a lot with teams, but you also see this in business with companies. One team gets the momentum, then they relax, they get less aggressive. Maybe they even start playing to not lose. They stop taking the risk that gave them the momentum. So, what you're saying, George, is that they choke their chicken? Yeah, then they don't get any more eggs. The key thing is, when you get momentum in sports or in business, keep pushing in order to win. Second, there are activities that make us successful. For example, a salesperson. That involves sending out emails or letters, making phone calls to existing clients and prospects, attending networking events, working his or her contact list. At first, they're hungry. They need that sale. But as time goes by, they start succeeding because of all of their efforts. Then they get content, laxadaisical, arrogant, even cocky. They stop doing the very things that made them a success in the first place. They choke their chicken. Now they don't get any eggs. The sales dry up because they stopped doing what made them successful in the first place. Coming up, we're going to apply the chicken and the egg strategy to your money. Today, we're talking about three ways people choke their chicken. And so far, we've discussed two. The third is this. A person saves money. That's the chicken. That money makes money. There's your eggs. They start seeing their savings grow, and then they get tempted. They choke their chicken. Yeah, they're doing so well that they think the chicken doesn't matter anymore. But now they don't have a chicken, so they don't get any eggs. They spent their savings so it doesn't earn any interest. So don't touch your principal and keep reinvesting your money. And when you do that, your money makes money, so you eventually can be free to spend your time however you want to. And the moral of the story is, don't choke your chicken. Ah! No! You know, Marilyn, we should probably add, no animals were harmed in the making of this broadcast. That is true. You can get a written summary of today's show at BigSuccess.com, and let's get our big quote for the day. Our big quote today is an Ashanti proverb that says, "One cannot both feast and become rich." So don't choke your chicken until you don't need any more eggs. Next time we'll talk about how to relax during a job interview. And until then, here's to your big success.
