Welcome to the big success show. Today, we'll talk about getting in tune with your job. The big success show with George and Mary Lynn. Howdy, partner. Yeah. Today, we're going to analyze two country classics and I never thought I'd be doing this. Why? Well, you know, I just thought we might be a little more philosophical or theoretical or something of a call. Hey, we got to go with our strength, George. Yes, we were going to do it some analysis of a research report by a professor, but I didn't understand it. So we had to do this. Anyway, we're talking about two great country songs today. That's right. The first one is take this job and shove it by Johnny Paycheck, which is a fun, angry song. And I think we've all sung that song in our heads, at least a time or two when we were frustrated at work. Yeah, and the second song is by the great Willie Nelson on the road again, and you know, fun, happy song. Definitely one that stood the test of time. So one of them says shove it. The other one says love it. And today we're going to compare the message in the songs with Johnny's song. Just look at the title. You kind of spot the first issue. Take this job and shove it. That's right. It's just a job. It's not a career. It's not a stepping stone. There's no passion for this job. It's just a paycheck. No pun intended there with a miserable existence. I like that. You know, the second thing about shoving it is this. He says, and I'll quote Mary Lynn. All right. Because I wouldn't talk this way. He says, my woman done left me and took all the reasons I was working for. Nice twang, George. Well, he's not doing it for himself. He's doing it for his woman. And so, you know, so he's working a job that he absolutely hates to please somebody else. And it's just, it never gets going to work if you're going to try to live your life for someone else. The third thing in shoving it, he's been working in this factory for nine on 15 years. That's what the lyrics say. Oh, you didn't come up with that yourself? No, no. I rarely say nine. But if you're miserable someplace for 15 years, I don't think there's anybody to blame but yourself there. Yeah, you see, people do that all the time. They build these imaginary traps. There's all these reasons for staying and not being happy. You know, life is way too short for that. That's right. You only get one shot at it. That's the other thing we've learned. The fourth thing about shoving it is how he views his bosses. You know, in the song, he refers to one as a dog, the other as a fool, makes fun of his haircut. You know, he doesn't respect them. And you know, let's let's admit it, not all bosses are good. Certainly that's the case. But do you know people who never have a good boss? You know, and you kind of get the sense maybe that's sort of the way this guy is. Now let's talk about loving it. On the road again. Oh, Willy Nelson. He just can't wait to get on the road again. And when you're loving it, you really do look forward to going to work. Yeah, the second thing about loving it is he's making music with his friends. And I think that's one of the most memorable lines from this song. And have you ever worked with a team where you just sort of had that special harmony? You just clicked. It all felt so good. You were so productive. You got in a zone as a group. There's just something special about what you did and what you got done, what you accomplished. You know, that's what we're talking about here. Now, granted, Willy really is talking about making music. But we all make music in our own way. The third thing about loving it, he says, go in places that I've never been. And again, we're taking a little creative license here with the lyrics. But have you ever been around a group of people, all big goal getters? And they inspire you to keep reaching higher and higher places that you never thought you'd go. And those are the kind of people you want to be around. Yeah, that's one of my favorite lines, Mary Lynn, along with the next one, which goes along with the same thought. And that is seeing things that I may never see again. And once again, we're taking some creative freedom. But as you grow, you out grow, you can always look back with memories of where you used to be. And those are fond memories because of how far you've come. Yeah, instead of being stuck in a job, you hate for 15 years. 9 on 15 years. Coming up the two overriding lessons from these two songs. Today, we're talking about two great country classics in the close out. We thought we'd share just two more thoughts with you. The first one is this you and you alone are in complete control of your own life. And if you don't believe it, that's your biggest problem. You know, we did a show on this called the single most destructive thought you can have. And take this job and shove it is the result of not feeling like you're in control of your life. Right. On the other hand, on the road again is when you do take control because life is an adventure of your own creation. You are making it happen. Yeah. And the second thought is this and take this job and shove it. We're talking about a person who dreams of living. With on the road again, the person is living his dreams. You know, one dreams of telling his boss to take this job and shove it. Yeah, because if you really read the lyrics of the song, he never actually says that he keeps talking about how he wishes he'd have the nerve or the guy's. To one day tell his boss he can't wait till one day when he tells his boss take this job and shove it. But he still hasn't done it. I never realized that Maryland. And then the other one with on the road, he just can't wait to get back on the road again to do what he loves doing some more. Well, we've talked about two songs here, but there are so many songs that can inspire us in our lives. What song gets you in tune? Let us know at big success.com. That's also where we have a written summary of today's show. And before we go, let's get our big quote for the day. Our big quote today is everybody's working for the weekend. Well, I'm sorry, there's a great song. Yeah, it's our quote today is by CS Lewis who said, we all want progress. But if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about turn and walking back to the right road. In that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive. You're never at a dead end because you can always do a U-turn and get back on the road again that leads to your big dreams. And next time, Mary Lynn, we're going to talk about a costly mistake that you should not make. I'm telling your boss to shove it. If you do, he's going to tell you to get on the road again. That's what I think. I'm not going to be able to get either of those songs out of my head all day now. Until then, here's to your big success. The Big Success Show at B-I-G-G Success.com.
