Good morning, and welcome to Simply Economics from Mexico. It's Thursday, July 11th. On today's show, welfare pharmacies support the health and economy of the people of Oaxaca, and the government enables the issuance of $20 billion in Treasury letters to absorb the BCRA debt. Plus, stay tuned for more economic news from Mexico. This coverage and more up next. I'm David, and you're listening to Simply Economics from Mexico. We start off with news from Oaxaca, where the governor, Salomon Hara Cruz, has inaugurated a new branch of the Farmassias Bienestar, or Wellness Pharmacies, program in Mi'ahuatlán di Porfirio dias. This program aims to guarantee the right to health for residents in the Sierra Sur region of Oaxaca. For more details, we turn to our correspondent on the ground. What can you tell us about this new program and how it will benefit the local population? This new branch of Farmassias Bienestar in Mi'ahuatlán will provide free first-level medical services to residents across 18 municipalities in the Sierra Sur region. The Oaxaca government has already registered 5,670 people who will receive benefits from this program. Beneficiaries will have unlimited access to medical consultations, dental checkups, and surgeries, eye exams, as well as three basic medicines per month and six basic laboratory studies. They can also receive up to two pairs of prescription glasses with up to four diopters per year, all at no cost. It sounds like this program could provide significant support for families in the region, not only in terms of healthcare access, but also financially. What has the governor said about the goals and importance of this initiative? Governor Salomon Harakruz emphasized that these actions promoted by his administration represent crucial support for Oaxaca families. By providing these health services at no cost, it will improve their quality of life and economic well-being. He stated, "In the government of the Oaxaca spring, we are committed to the well-being of the people. We work so that each Oaxaca has a better quality of life." The governor also noted that this Miawatlan branch is the first at a regional level, with 11 total branches now operating across the state. More pharmacias Bienistar locations are planned to open in the coming months to serve all regions of Oaxaca. The Secretary of Welfare, Tequio and Inclusion, Luca Alejandra Hernandez-Rohus, also provided some additional context around the scope and goals of the pharma C.S. Bienistar program. What details did she share? Secretary Hernandez-Rohus explained that in the first stage, this Miawatlan branch will serve 18 municipalities in the Sierra Sore region, with 5,670 families currently registered to receive the medical services and benefits. However, the ultimate goal is to grant a total of 110,000 pharmacias Bienistar cards throughout Oaxaca. Since each card can affiliate up to four family members, this would reach half a million beneficiaries once fully implemented across the state. One of the program beneficiaries, Angela Martinez Flores, expressed her gratitude for this support, which will allow her family to access medical, dental, and optometrics services for free. The inauguration of this pharma C.S. Bienistar branch in Miawatlan represents important progress in the government's efforts to provide what they call the historical reparation of the peoples. We will continue to monitor the rollout and impact of this program across Oaxaca. And with that, we wrap up our stories for today. Thanks for listening to Simply Economics from Mexico. We'll see you back here tomorrow. [MUSIC] [BLANK_AUDIO]
