AP News, I'm Jackie Quinn. The Republican National Convention is getting underway in Milwaukee, with videos warning against the re-election of President Joe Biden. "Bidenomics doesn't just have seniors worried, it has them scared to death." Donald Trump is expected today to announce his vice presidential pick. Some wonder if Saturday's assassination attempt against the former president will influence his decision. And Trump gets a big victory today. Federal judge Aileen Cannon has dismissed the classified documents case against him. The AP's Eric Tucker reports. "The dismissal here is not a reflection of the judge's assessment of Trump's guilt or innocence. This is a very technical argument that said that the special counsel who brought the case, Jack Smith, that his appointment was illegal." Donald Trump has spoken out about the shooting at his rally Saturday. Our Rita Foley reports. "He tells the Washington Examiner if he hadn't turned his head at just the right moment, we would not be talking today, would we?" He says a bullet hit his ear at that rally on Saturday night in Pennsylvania, as a would-be assassin tried to kill him. "An Israeli drone strike on a car near the Lebanon-Syria border has killed a prominent Syrian businessman. He had been sanctioned by the United States." Ukraine's president Volatimer Zelensky says his country needs 25 Patriot air defense systems to fully protect from Russian missile attacks. And he says he would be able to work with Donald Trump if the former president wins in November. A giant pandas given birth to a cub at a Dutch zoo. It's a boost for the endangered species. Democrats are heading up into record territory again today, the Dow's up 147 points. This is AP News. A question from the jury deliberating a bribery case against New Jersey U.S. Senator Bob Menendez. "Does a not guilty verdict on a single account require unanimity? After consulting with lawyers in the case, the judge responded jury, your note, whether guilty or not guilty, must be unanimous as to each count and to each defendant. The New Jersey Democrat is charged in 16 of 18 counts. The 70-year-old Menendez has denied he engaged in a bribery scheme with three New Jersey businessmen including by serving as a foreign agent for the government of Egypt. He and two of the businessmen who allegedly paid him bribes of gold and cash have fled not guilty. Julie Walker, New York scientists are confirming the discovery of a cave on the moon.
