This is AP News. I'm Rita Falle. Former President Trump is talking about that moment he says he was saved from death. He says he had turned away from the crowd at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday to look at a screen showing a chart he was talking about when a bullet hit the upper part of his right ear. He told the Washington Examiner had he not turned away from the crowd. In his words, "Well, we would not be talking today, would we?" Then he got on an airplane and took off from Milwaukee and the Republican National Convention, the AP's Jennifer King. Two days after an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, Donald Trump is in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention. He spent much of Sunday on the phone with friends, news hosts and officials. Ohio pastor Darrell Scott said the former president was in great spirits. Meanwhile, friends and neighbors mourned rally shooting victim Corey Comparator, a former chief and longtime volunteer firefighter in Buffalo Township. "Can't believe it happened." Craig SorinciĆ³n is lieutenant at the Fire Department. "A good God-fearing, hard-working man, loved his family." Yes, the eyes say they are investigating the assassination attempt as a potential act of domestic terrorism. They believe shooter Thomas Matthew Crookes acted alone and say he had bomb-making materials in the car he drove. Crookes graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2020. Jason Kohler recalls his schoolmate. "Just seeing him in school and he was bullied, sat alone at lunch." "I'm Jennifer King." The Secret Service says it killed the suspected shooter who attacked from a rooftop of a nearby building outside the rally venue and now a promise from FBI Director Christopher Wray. "The American people can rest assured that we will leave no stone unturned as we work to get to the bottom of what happened." And a plea from President Biden, disagreeing with each other is okay. "The politics must never be a literal battlefield. It's not from good, a killing field." President speaking from the Oval Office, last night, this is AP News. China and Russia's militaries are getting together for a joint exercise. The AP's Karen Shamas. China and Russia have begun joint naval drills at a military port in southern China. The exercise comes just days after NATO accused China of enabling the war in Ukraine because of its support for Russia. The Chinese Defense Ministry said in a brief statement that the operation had nothing to do with international and regional situations and didn't target any third party. The joint drills, which began in Guangdong Province, are expected to last until mid-July. China's state TV said the drills are aimed at demonstrating the capabilities of the navies in addressing security threats and preserving peace and stability globally and regionally. I'm Karen Shamas.
