This is AP News, I'm Rita Falle. We're learning the former President Trump spent much of the day yesterday on the phone with friends, media and local and foreign officials. Just a day after, gunmen tried to kill him. When Ohio pastor who spoke with him said and were quoting, "He was great, he didn't even make a big deal of it." Donald Trump arrived last night in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, which begins today. The AP's Jackie Quinn. The politics and pageantry of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee has been overshadowed by the shooting at a Trump rally this past weekend. Security is high on everyone's mind, FBI Wisconsin Special Agent-in-Charge Michael Henssel says they've been working on the convention safety plan for 18 months. He says it really hasn't changed despite the shooting because they've tried to plan for any scenario. Former President Trump already in Milwaukee tells the Washington Examiner paper he's rewritten his speech to call for national unity and resilience, focusing less on his Democratic rival. I'm Jackie Quinn. That Democratic rival, President Biden, addressed the nation last night from the Oval Office. You know, the political record in this country has gotten very heated. It's time to cool it down. We all have a responsibility to do that. As for the investigation into the attack on Donald Trump, the gunman's motive is unknown. The Secret Service says it killed a suspected shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who they say opened fire from a rooftop of a nearby building outside the Trump rally venue. One bystander was killed, two others critically wounded. The FBI says it believes Crooks acted alone. This is AP News. To Houston now, Texas Governor Greg Abbott says he wants to know why Centerpoint is failing the state with hundreds of thousands, especially in the Houston area, still without power. A week after Hurricane barrel hit. Was Centerpoint protecting Texans or was it protecting its own pocketbook? He's giving the energy company until July 31st to come up with plans so that this doesn't happen in the next hurricane. If Centerpoint is unable to fix its ongoing problems, at some point in time, either the PUC or the state of Texas will have to reconsider the territorial region that Centerpoint is managing. Abbott also says threatening line cruises unacceptable and slows the process. Centerpoint says they expect to restore 90% of impacted customers by the end of Monday if not before. I'm Julie Walker.
