it is Buzzworthy Radio, where you can get the latest Buzz and all your favorite children's stars. Buzzworthy. Bye. Now. Isn't that wonderful? Yes. What is it? Fabulous. Hi, everybody. Welcome to our second show of the day of Buzzworthy Radio. I'm the Vell Jaylee at 7.30 PM. Eastern Standard Time, 4.30 Pacific Coast Time on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. We are joined right now by the wonderful Kate Linder, Esther Valentine at CBS, Daytime, the Young and the Restless. And she's coming back. Oh, I always loved talking to you. It was great. Oh, it wasn't the Emmy Fund. Oh, it was great. They were great. It was a little warm, but other than that, I was talented. Oh, yeah. A little warm. Yeah. I was sweating bullets out there. Yeah. But yeah. But you still looked good, see? Oh, well. Thanks. See, now you're back. You know, you have to tell me how correct I was about the bold and beautiful winning that Emmy. Hey, remember, I said that, too. I said the bold and beautiful has to win. I was so happy. I was thrilled. I mean, they really deserve it, and I was so happy for Bradley, and it's, and everyone over there. And it's our sister's show. So, if Young and the Restless couldn't be nominated, then they had to win. There was this, that, it just had to be. I was thrilled about it. I was, it was a long time coming for that show, I think. Yeah, definitely. They had a good, and they had a great year with what they submitted. That was perfect for them. Oh, man. I was so happy for them when they won. Yeah. Oh, it was great. Really, really great. I was a little upset, though, that Brad's Emmy speech was cut out. I know, that was so sad that that happened. I think that, I don't know, I don't know all the logistics of what they were dealing with back there, but they obviously ran out of time, and I'm sure in retrospect, they were other things that maybe, you know, they would have liked to have had happened rather than that, but, but it, they, you know, people, there are copies of his speech and people can see it. Yeah, they did a, yeah, they did upload it finally, and I got to see it, so, at least we finally did see it, but it was just a shame that it wasn't going to live feed, you know? Yeah, I totally agree with you, and I don't think anyone would argue that point. I think everybody was, including, the producers were upset that that happened, but anyway, anyway. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, I have a message for you from Jim Ramonovich. Oh, hi, I love Jim. He's so such a good guy. Yeah, he actually sent me a message for you earlier. He wanted me to tell you that, that you are a great lady, and how you were a great support of his for the daytime Emmys, and he owes you a lot, so he wanted me to pass that message along to you. Oh, you made my day, that's so nice. Oh. That's so nice of him to say that. Oh, Jim's great. He's a wonderful guy. Yeah. I'm just thrilled because without them, the Emmys would not have aired, and so, and that would not have been a good thing, so I'm very happy for he and David, what they did. Do you think we'll see the Emmys again next to your tell about it? Oh, definitely. I'm counting on it. I'm counting that they're going to be back, and they're not going to get better. See, you know, because people are saying, you know, we can't, I mean, it's so sad that guiding light is gone now, and people have been asking me, saying, well, what does this mean now for our daytime, or is everything going, and, and you know what, that's, that's just not happening, and we can't even address that. We have to just be positive, and look to the future, and make things better so that we make sure that, that it's around for a long time, and I have no plans for going any place, so, so better be here. Yeah, because, you know, it is, it is, it ain't been thought about a lot, it was guiding light, um, their show, their last show that aired this past Friday, which just finally hit me on Monday, and when I was turning on, and the woman's there, you know, everybody's asking. Everybody's not just asking for nothing with guiding, like, off the air, this, this is a further staple of a declining daytime arena, but it, it, you know, it's like, that, that maybe all in all true, and I'm not saying it is, I'm not saying it's not. Well, you know, what you got now, kind of thing. Well, also, you know, I don't think that, that their numbers are actually correct. I, I really, I mean, people are watching their shows in so many different ways now. It's not that just someone turns on the television and watches it. I mean, people are like, you know, t-rolling and taping and streaming and, you know, watching them on iPod. I mean, all kinds of things, and on phones, and so I, I really don't see how they have the correct numbers of, and the, and the ratings really don't reflect what's really happening. Because I'm out there, and I'm in different parts of the country, and in different parts of the world and, and people come up to me all the time. I know that people are watching these shows. I know they're watching them, and the rest of us, I'm confident about that. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, the, the Nielsen ratings are kind of a little, they're off, let's do that, but they're off, because they're not, you know, they're not told, it's not total viewers, I think. Yeah, that's what I think, and then, you know, and, and, and if we keep bringing that up, and then the advertisers say, well, the ratings are down, so we want to pull up. You know, it just goes into a vicious cycle, and I think what we need to do is say, look, these shows are great, like Young and the Ruffles is the best one, it's the number one show, and we plan to be here, and plan to continue, and so I think all the viewers need to get behind that and, and watch their shows, whatever they might be. Exactly. And let people know, and let their advertisers know, and let people, that they don't want their shows going anywhere, you can't just sit down and take it. Exactly. That's what I think. Exactly. So we talked about this on the, on the red carpet a little bit, working with the, under Maria Bell, and everybody there right now, how, how, how is that, I mean, you know, what, I heard some of the stuff that's coming up on the show, and it's getting, it's, it's getting kind of interesting. Yeah, well, I'm so, I'm so grateful to Maria. She has really made a difference in our show, and she's just so talented, and, and all of our writers are, and she's a head writer, and co-ed that produce her, and she's just to have so much to offer, and I just, I can't say enough good things about her, and, and, I really feel like, you know, I mean, she's visiting the history of our show, and, and not, and not forgetting about things, and I'm thrilled, I'm thrilled about the whole thing, I'm thrilled about the process, and I'm absolutely ecstatic that my daughter's back, and a little bit Hendrickson is such a fabulous actress, and I so enjoy working with her. Oh, absolutely. It's just been, it's just been great. My little, I love her, she's a little spitfire. Yeah, she's going to like, seem like mother like daughters. Yeah, yeah, it keeps you on your toes, I think. Yeah, sure. And yeah, you guys were on, on today's episode, and the, the Esther got a nice little new maid outfit. It's now blue. Yeah, but what do you think about that? I was like, oh, that's cute, her, her, her regular maid outfit's now much tired. Well, I don't, I don't want to say about that. But the interesting thing about the one I had on today was, I don't know if you remember, but there was a show around Christmas time where Jill, well, when we thought Mrs. Chancellor was, had, was gone, and, and then we got these Christmas presents sent to us, and they, they were from her that she had sent earlier. And so we opened them, and that's what the present was, that's what she gave me, was that uniform. Oh, I don't know if you remember that, so that's what, so that's kind of interesting to have worn that. So we'll see. I'm interested to see what the viewers think about me, you know, being back in the uniform too. Well, I like that, I like that, this is a nice change, and one of the things I didn't do was seeing Trisha Katz and Tom Bierd's back on the, back on the show, working with those two actors again, what was that like when you got to see those again? Oh, it's great. I mean, you know, all of our characters have so much history, I mean, don't forget that Nina, I mean, I went to live with her for a while, Esther went to live with her for a while. Yes. And I remember actually, because of Nina that Chloe is around, because when I went, I went out with Nina one night and met Tiny, who was actually little Kate, my daughter, also has Chloe's father. Yeah. So, man, been with Nina, that's probably why that happens, anyway, so I'll just go around and, of course, Trisha's fabulous, and I loved having her there, and Tom Bierd's, we've kept in contact through the years too, and I'm thrilled that he's back on the show, and I'm thrilled for him as well. Absolutely. I know a lot of people were excited to hear those two actors back on the show, because again, that's like you're saying, it goes back into the history of the show, and lots of long-time viewers were happy to see those two return to the program, so it's probably definitely. Yeah, definitely. Definitely. Definitely. Now, you're hosting the Acme comedy theater this Saturday. Yeah. So exciting. How does this come about? I'm actually here, are you, how you got to host this? Well, I don't know, you know what, they just asked me to do it, and it kind of just came about real fast, and I didn't have really too much time to think about it, and I love the Acme comedy. I mean, that's really my main thing, so I thought this is, I can't say no to this. This is just going to be terrific, and I'm so looking forward, they are so talented over there. Aren't they? Oh, my God, they're amazing, and so I'm doing five different sketches, and plus we have a video thing that we're going to tape as well on Friday, and there's just all kinds of great stuff. I'm just so excited to be doing this, and to working with all of them, they are really something. Oh, you should, you know, there should be a sketch in there where you're mocking the young wrestlers on stage or something. Like, I've always figured that whenever the soap stars are like hosting that, because there were a few, they shouldn't mock their soap opera that they're on. But I love young and the wrestlers, I'm so proud of them, and I don't want to say anything bad about young and the wrestlers. They're so great, I love everybody there, you know, it would be hard for me to do. But you never know, you're going to have to watch, you're going to have, you know, because they, well, you know, that they stream this live as well, so you're going to have to watch even though you can't be there, and you can see it. Yeah, I have streamed it, yeah, so you're going to have to watch Saturday, and then let me know what you're saying. I will, I will, definitely. Yeah, I'm going to have to watch. You're such a busy woman, how can you juggle all of this stuff? I don't know, it gets kind of crazy sometimes, but I figured it out somehow, somehow. I don't know how you do it, I'm like, that's amazing to be able to go from one thing to the next, and like a hard read, it just seems like, it seems like impossible for like anybody else. What do you do, you make it seem so easy. Ah, what a nice compliment, that's so nice of you. It's true. It is true, I mean, you do a lot of the charity work you do, oh man, it's stuff that, you know, people don't seem to recognize, and they should. Your hard work does not seem to be paying off for other people, and it should be, you know what I mean? Aww, I'm not right. I really appreciate your comments on that, that means a great deal to me, but I just, I'm just passionate about so many things, and you know, I can't not do them, you know, and whatever I do, I have to do it to the best that I can, so I just try to do it all somehow. Right. And as long as I'm doing everything, you know, good, then I'll keep doing it, I mean, if something, you know, starts not being as good, well then I have to look at that, but as long as, it's like flying, you know, the show, as long as there, you know, as long as the show doesn't suffer, I mean, of course that's my main concern, so as long as I can keep it all going, then I'll just keep going. Absolutely. Now a lot of, lots of, lots of fans want to know this from a lot of the people that stop by here. Are you, are you up on the whole Twitter thing in Facebook thing? Yeah, I'm on Twitter. Are you on Twitter? Yeah. You're not following me on Twitter? Yeah. I didn't know you were on, no, I didn't know you were on Twitter. Yeah. In fact, I just, Twitter, not too long ago about saying getting ready to back me, and if you go on there, you'll see all that. Oh, I've got to find you now. Huh? Yeah, and I have, I have a Facebook fan page, I mean, too, as well, so I, like, you know, people are, I mean, I have a website that's www.caitlinder.com, and from that you can access my Facebook and Twitter, actually. Okay. You just have to go to that, and that's easy, then, and you can do that. I mean, I'm not, no, you did not have it. I don't know. I'm like, I'm behind, I figured I had, everybody on there for one on Twitter, and I don't. Do you want? I figured I had everybody on, younger wrestlers on Twitter, and I don't. Oh, well, see, you just never know, you never know. I know it's pretty wild, but I'm trying to, you know, you got to keep up, and I'm trying to do that. I mean, there's a lot of things I don't know how to do. I'm technically challenged in lots of ways, but I just try to figure it out. Go, yeah. Go with the flow, I guess. Yeah, keep doing it. I am now following you on Twitter now. Yay! Now that's finally, that's finally taken care of. I'm now following you on Twitter. Wow, that's very cool. One of the, and one of the reasons why I brought up Twitter, actually, you know, it just seems like it's a very cool vehicle, and I know that, and you don't, and of course, you don't want to answer this, you don't have to answer this, but how do you feel about when people use Twitter to invent about their concerns? Let me read that, and it's just, like, it just seems like, um, to, like, invent out their concerns about what goes on in daytime. Do you like it when people do that, or do you think they should speak out if they are unhappy with a certain storyline? Oh, oh! You're saying an individual actor that's doing that. Yeah. Or are you saying regular fans that are tweeting about that? Both. Both. Well, I mean, you know, this, of course, we have our whole country based on free speech, and, you know, people have their right, and you don't have to listen to it, or you don't have to, you know, it's their right to do what they want to do. I, I myself would not discuss, um, if I'm unhappy, or something about a certain thing. I mean, I, you know, on the show I just don't, you know, that's just not my way of doing things, but maybe other people find it as if that's the way they, they communicate. I, you know, for me that, you know, it doesn't work that way for me, so, um, but anyway. Yeah. It's, it's, um, you know, it's just, and as far as the, as viewers do, I mean, you know, they, of course, they're, that's their way they're communicating, and that's up to them, you know? That's fine. All right. It's very, it's very flippant in my, in my opinion, really, um, you know, you know, fans, you know, fans they love and respect the shows and the genre, so I understand where the fans come from. Uh-huh. They say that. As far as actors go, don't bite the hand to teach you. Well, you know what? That's what I'm trying to say. I mean, I just, I personally would not be doing that, but that, that's, that's me. Mm-hmm. You know? Mm-hmm. You pretty much answered that. And I, I, that's what I was hoping you would say, so that was good. That's, that's, that's, that's what I was hoping to think of, but yeah, but yeah, it's just, it is tough. It is tough for that. And, you know... Well, some things are just not other people's business, you know? That too. As far as when you're, you know, something's going on or you're in negotiations or whatever it is, that's really no one's business except the two parties are involved and so I don't, you know, feel that... It's not that you get everybody else involved in that, like it should not be public knowledge that should be kept under wraps. Well, just like anything, you know, like any relationship, you know, there's some, you know, that old saying you don't want to air your dirty laundry or whatever that I'm saying is, you know, why people don't need to know, you know, if I have a fight with my husband or something, I'm not going to tell everybody about that. Right. Why does anybody even want to know or why do they care? Exactly. Actually, it's more like it. Why do they care? Exactly. And it's not their, it's not their concern and why would I bother them with it? Exactly. Yeah. You know. So, what would you like Esther to do? And we thought, we said this, to be said, you should find, you should find another guy. Yeah, well, that would be good. And he's, he's asking, or, you know, if David Leisure could come back somehow, I don't know how they could make him good because he's clearly not, but, you know, but it just seems like Esther is unlucky in love, you know, but rectify that. See, definitely, maybe Chloe could fix it for her, but then Chloe doesn't do such a good job. Oh, can you imagine that? Can you imagine Chloe setting up her mom on a date? Yeah. That would be good. That would be comical, I think. Yeah. I like that idea. I mean, I think you should, I like that idea. That would be, like, you know, Chloe just, like, you need to get a guy. You need to get a guy. Yeah. And she just sends in, like, maybe about five bachelor's that come in and you're just, like, staring at all these guys going, like, you know, like, you remember, though, remember when I had that first date I had with Roger. Yeah. Well, actually Chloe had something to do with that, so she didn't... I do remember that. No one's even talked about that. I should have said, "Hey, thanks a lot." Look, we did. You almost got me killed. Thanks. It's like, I'm sorry, Mommy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I do remember that Chloe did have a hand in that, so yeah, now if you mention it, oh. Yeah. But he never brought up. Yeah, definitely. But it would just seem like it would be a little bit more involved now as she now brought in, like, more people to set Esther up with. Yeah. Yeah. And then just go... Like, what she would do is, like, you would go on a date with each guy and somehow you would get disgusted by the first four, but then the last one would be like your Prince charming or something. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. And then that last one because, of course, there was speculation that they were going to find Catherine's child, that last one would actually Catherine's son. Yeah, well, what would you say say that part again? I said, like, the last one that would be, like, your Prince charming and everybody's speculating that Catherine's child, who turns out to be a son, is going to come back in the picture. Oh, my God, with Catherine's son, that you wound up dating. Oh, I like that. Yeah. It would make for interesting story. I like that a lot. I think you should talk to somebody. I think I should talk to Marie and Mel, huh? Yeah. I think your ideas are great. It's great. And that actually just came off the top of my head. I did not even think about that. I think that's a brilliant idea, actually, because that would give a lot of story to both Kay and Esther, and you, of course, Jill would, like, nosy her way into it. Yeah, definitely. Yeah. That is great. Definitely great. So, if you're listening out to Marie and Mel, but that's what I'm suggesting, you took our advice about Esther's daughter to take our advice about this. Very good. Yes. Absolutely. Do you, besides acne, do you have anything else that's coming up that you are doing that you can promote as well as far as charity events or anything? Well, I mean, I'm a celebrity spokesperson for the ALS Association, and I believe we talked about that before, but, you know, I'm always out there and doing things for as much, you know, for different charities and much as I can do, and try to get back as much as I can. So, every day, there's something, and I'm out there doing something. Yes. That's good. That's good to always be up and about. Yeah. Stay time down. I have another message for you from Roger Newcomb, actually. Hi, Roger. Hi, Roger. Yes. He said that him and Damon loved you at the Emmys, and that you went to his movie screening and talked golf with Damon's dad. I did. I went to his screening, and it was excellent. You know, they have, they're very talented, these guys. They're extremely talented. I owe Roger so much. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be doing this show right now. Really? He got me involved in doing this. Wow. See? Yeah. He's a really good guy. He's definitely a good guy, and I think I met his parents, too. Did you? Yeah. They're so nice. I haven't met his parents yet. No. No. But, yes, Roger's amazing. He's another one that doesn't get enough credit either, and he should. He does so much work on that. We love sub-site. He does. He does an incredibly good job. I think all of you guys are so talented, and I think that people don't realize, you know, how much work it takes to do what you do. It's not easy. It's not just us, nobody gives daytime itself enough credit because-- Well, that's always been my complaint for years, that we're like the step-kip of the industry. And believe me, I have seen a lot of people come from other parts of the industry, film, time, time, and they cannot--they can't make it because it's really difficult. You have lots of dialogue, and you can't. And now with budget constraints and everything, you don't get lots of time, so you maybe have one take, and you better know your lines, you know? You better know yourself. Yeah. I found out recently that you guys only filmed four days a week, five shows, and four days. Yeah, lots of weeks we do that, yeah, yeah. And it's just now you have to--all you do is now blog, do your scene, that's it, basically. You don't have any dress rehearsals, nothing else, and if you mess up, you better keep going and don't stop. Mm-hmm. That's right. That's tough. That's tough for actors and, you know, veterans, you know, of course, they'd probably be able to get them out, but for newcomers coming into the arena, it's difficult for them because you know, that's a lot of pages you don't have to memorize, and you won't get any retakes to do them. That's right. When you look at it, see, and you still look at young and the wrestlers, and that show still looks so good, you know, it's really a testament to everybody that works on our show, and that's all the people, you know, all the people behind the camera as well who make our show look so fabulous. Mm-hmm. And they work really, really hard, too. Yeah, and it just goes back to it's really a shame that people got daytime ill, maxed, you know? Yeah. You just want prime time or, like, the bigger leagues, you know, and really, it's like, why are you giving daytime flack? They're like the hardest working people because if you've been primed on the movies, you have what? Weeks to film, and you get so many retakes to do your scene, I mean, you don't have to memorize 80 pages of dialogue in one day, like they do, you know? Yeah. I know, yep. I don't know, but it seems like every time we complain about that, it's like we're complaining to like a dead horse or something because it's never heard, couldn't they still act the same way towards daytime? It's really a shame. Like, nobody will ever think of daytime any differently, but... Yeah. I know it. Well, we do something to keep going. That's not it. That's what we do. Right? We don't give up, and that's what we do. And if the fans are appreciated or what you do, that's the best support system that you can get. Yeah. Absolutely. I can then that, absolutely. Where does the time go? Half hour of the bus is fine. Wow. Yeah. Because you're so good. Isn't... I don't do much, I'm too much credit, but thank you. And thank you so much for coming on again. You're welcome. I have fun. I so enjoy talking to you, so. And guys, make sure you... Everybody tunes in on Saturday. I was gonna say that. Look at you reading my mind. Absolutely.
