[MUSIC] [SOUND] [MUSIC] You were not listening to Buzz, radio. Yo, yo, yo, but it's so cool. This is Blake Lewis getting the buzz. Right, right, right, right, right, radio. Buzz, buzz, what were the, what were the, what were the, what were the radio? And good morning, everybody. Welcome to a new edition of Buzzworthy Radio. I'm your host, Novell. Jay Lee, coming to you live right now on the east coast. It's 10 a.m. eastern standard time. 7 a.m. Pacific Coast time. We are going to be joined by Lance Rettick. Today, he plays the role of Philip Broil on the hit Fox show Fringe, which premieres tomorrow. The season premiere is tomorrow at 9 p.m. only on the box. So make sure you guys check that out. Buzz, our first guest, we're going to be joined by Klesi Barchay. He's in the new Tyler Perry movie. We're going to be talking to him about that. 10 years, I believe. I believe he's 10. I might have my age a little bit lost by a couple of years. But yeah, he's a little tight, but he's getting up there. Ladies and gentlemen, he will be joining us. And I believe he's with us right now. Let's introduce our first guest. Already making headways. He was on day to realize his Artemis. But now he can be seen in the new Tyler Perry movie. Please welcome Mr. Klesi Barchay. Let's see. How are you? I'm good. You? I'm doing very well. Thanks so much for calling in this morning. You're welcome. So, tell us, how is it like working with Tyler Perry? That's what happened to me. It was pretty fun working with Tyler Perry. He's like a big kid and he likes to play with us a lot. And he actually let me write his segue. And he has this little virtual airplane here on his computer. So he let me play. That was really cool. And he just explains things on a kid level. So he wants fun to work with Tyler Perry. And I hope to work with him one more time. Wow. That is amazing. So, who are you playing in this movie? The cat that I play is Manny. And Manny, he's a little ruffler on the edges. And he has to go up pretty fast. There's his brothers and sisters. And I just say he's looking for a copy of him. That's great. And let me ask you. Is acting something that you've always wanted to do? Or was it something... There was something you wanted to do? I couldn't tell because I was like 10 months old and I started acting. But I really didn't know what was going on. So... That's pretty cool. That's pretty cool. It's like you come a long way. You're now doing this movie. You've done a couple of other stuff. You were in Happy Feed. And now you're working on 40? Is that correct? Yes. It's an independent film. And the cat that I play is not his name. It's Pablo. And he's a little bit of an outsider. He's sad all the time for some reason. But then he starts to get happier because this one person, Jean, is starting to be nicer. Nice. So who would you like to work with? Do you have any favorites, actors, or actresses that you want to work with? I would like to work with Smith one day because I'm a big fan of his and I see that he's a very good actress. So I think that he'll give me a lot of good tips just like Tyler Perry and give me a good advice. And it'll just be very cool to work with him so that I say with me. I think that'll be really cool is the work with Will Smith. Will Smith is my favorite. Will Smith is awesome. I think that would be really cool if you were able to share this stream with him as his son or something. Yes, that would be cool. Have you ever listened to his music before? Never listened to anything that he ever wrapped before, besides watching him as an actor? No, I never heard this music before. No? Yeah, we're going to have to get you. You're going to have to have you hear some of this stuff, man. That'd be pretty cool. That would be awesome. You will have fun days of our lives as Artemis, correct? Yeah. What was that like doing there? A little fun doing that because I had another kid on set. So that was fun. I wasn't just bored and the only kid there. And it was just fun. We just think that we'd each other all the time. And the stuff in everybody there was nice. I just liked days of our lives. And I got sort of attacked. Oh, did you have who was your favorite actor on that show? Was it James Reynolds and James Reynolds and Renee Jones? I liked the guy who played Nick in it. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He was my dad. Okay, okay. And you did that for two years. So, yeah, I understand. You would get attached to that. It was a great tool for you to start off with because look at what you're heading to now. It's like you're heading into something bigger and better. I mean, you're going to be in. I could do bad all about myself. You're going to be in 40. It's like you have this whole life ahead of you. So you're really doing it very well for yourself. I congratulate you and how old are you? I'm 10 years old. You are 10 years old. That is amazing that you're able to do all this and you're only 10 years old. That's so cool, inspirational, everything on the above. That's absolutely fantastic for you. So proud of you, so happy for you. Thank you. You're welcome. Would you like to see yourself doing more movies? Would you like to do more TV? Do you have a favorite genre that you want to stick on? Actually, I'm on a real amount of new shows called "Miniver Certain Age." And that's a TV show. So I'd say I'll probably want to do a little bit more of both. A little bit more both? Yeah. Okay. All right. So there's not a particular one that you like a little bit more than the other. Some movies. Some movies. Because it's like, I'm not a critic. We're on being on a movie set and you can stay there longer sometimes. And I just like working on movies and we get to meet a lot of more new people. And we get to travel sometimes. Not true. That's true. I didn't even think of that. That is true. You are correct. What was your parents' reaction when you got this role in the Tyler Perry movie? What were they like? Oh, my mom and dad, they were just screaming and congratulating me. And she just kept screaming and screaming and congratulating me. And she just stopped screaming. She was so happy for me. Well, she should be. It's so funny to hear her say that she was screaming. Did she get to meet Mr. Perry at all? Yes, she got to meet Mr. Perry. She was so excited because she watched all of his movies and including his plays. So she was a very big fan of them too. That's cool. That's really wonderful. And I just think it's so wonderful that your parents are so supportive of you and everything that you are doing. So it's great to have that. And I understand that your brothers are also actors. Yes. My brother Kwame, he's 17 years old and he's an actor and he's just finished eating ER, the show. And my brother, Kwame, he's 16 years old and he just finished eating his movie with the long shots with Ice Cube and Tiki Palmer. Oh, that's cool. Definitely want to check that out. Now, besides this show, you also, you did Jimmy Kimmel. Looked like doing Jimmy Kimmel Live. It was fun doing Jimmy Kimmel Live because he's just a funny guy and it's just so fun with working with him. And I just kept cracking up because I couldn't keep you straight face at all. He's just a very funny guy. That was probably really cool to meet him for the first time. That was really awesome. I loved that. That was really cool. Definitely. Yeah. That was cool. So who else did you work with and I can do that all by myself? Besides the time of period, who else was in this that you got to play off of? That's right. Taraji's painting was in it and she was very fun to work with. She's very energetic and she likes to play with me. And she likes to tell all kinds of jokes with me. She always paints my cheeks. And Adam Rodriguez, he's a very cool guy. And he likes to play games on his phone with me. And he just likes to hang out with me. And he just likes, he just, I don't know how to put it, but he's just a nice guy overall. And then I got to work with Gladys Knight and Mary Jay Blogg. And Gladys Knight, she was very nice to me. She would always say how handsome I am and the same thing with Mary Jay Blogg. And she kept saying I stole the movie. She said you stole the movie? Is that correct? Is that what you said? Yeah. I liked that. Mary Jay Blogg's and Gladys Knight. That those two women, wonderful singers, you had a chance to work with those two and Tyler Perry. That just must a major day when you found out you were going to be in a movie with all three of those people. That's made my day because I like Mary Jay Blogg's music. And my mom said that Gladys Knight, she was like a Hall of Famer. And so I was really excited to get the chance to meet her. That was really cool. I am so happy for you. You're going to be doing amazing things continuing on. You're like 10 now. You're pretty much going to be a powerhouse when you turn 20. I can imagine it right now. You're going to be absolutely amazing. And when can we see I can do bad all by myself? When does that come out if it hasn't already? It came out already and it's number one. I'm really excited about that. You can see it right now because it came out last Friday and I think it came out last Friday. I was really excited about it being number one. It was like a dream come true. Nice. That's right. I can do bad all by myself. I have to ask, I love Tyler Perry. I really do and I love when he's in the DIA. How funny is it when he's playing with DIA? It's so funny. Every time we're doing the takes, we have to do 30 takes because nobody can keep a straight face. You can see a little movement out just cracking up in the outtakes. It was just very funny working with Madea. I was just going to keep a straight face. He was just so funny. It was very funny because that was the first time I got to see him do his Madea voice and him in the whole coffin. He is just funny. That's the only role that he did in this movie besides his other part. He didn't do any besides Joe. He didn't do any other parts in there. It was just those two. I know he's done like plenty of other roles in a movie besides Madea and another character so it's like -- Yeah, I think when Madea goes to Joe, he played a lawyer and he played with Joe. That was only? Yeah, no. I'm not sure. But he played Madea and the lawyer. So he played with others in Madea and Joe. Okay. Very cool. Yeah, I don't think I would be able to keep a straight face either, so I was watching him live playing with DIA. I can't. I wouldn't be able to do it. You guys, you're now telling me that none of you were able to do. It makes me feel a lot better. That's really cool to see and do that. I'm very happy for you. I'm very happy with what you're doing. You're very inspirational too. Everybody out there has a dream to do whatever it is that they're doing at a young age. And you're doing it. I could not be happier for you. You're on your way, man. You're on your way a bigger thing. I can see you right now acting opposite wolf meth, if not Bruce Willis or anybody else. So yeah, keep doing what you're doing, man. Absolutely. Your parents support you. Everybody support you. You are on your way. Cannot be happier. Thank you. And I will still keep doing this. Absolutely. Thank you so much for stopping by. Thanks so much. Thanks, Daddy. Anytime. Bye-bye. All right. That was our first guest of our half hour, Mr. Chrissy Parchay. You can see him right now in theaters. I can do that all by myself. Tyler Perry's movie. Check it out in theaters now. Number one of both of us. Make sure you check it out. We're going to be joined by our second guest in just a few minutes. He will be joining us at 10.20. Lance Reddick will be on. He plays the role of Phillip Broil on Fringe. Season premiere of that show is tomorrow's Thursday, September 17, 2009 at 9 p.m. only on Fox following the season premiere of Bones on the same network. So make sure you guys check that out. If you are a fan of Fringe, check it out. Season premiere is tomorrow. We're going to be talking to him about that. So I'm looking forward to speaking with him. Huge fan of Fringe. Love it. I hope they'll do better with the show this year than they did last year, where either of you started off, it was going off strong, it was going on strong. But then during mid-season, we hadn't seen it. And then it will come back for the couple of new episodes, then it will go away again. Couple of new episodes and it will go away again. I'm like, why is it that we're not seeing a consistent string of new shows? This makes no sense. I mean, JJ Abrams, he's off the hook. He is off the hook with all the stuff that he does. And his show is no different. And it was an instant hit. It was an instant hit with a very first episode last year when the series premiere started. And for us to not get consistent string of episodes, it absolutely floored me. It really did floored me. I cannot believe they would do something like that. I mean, yeah, they kept saying it was because of idols and all these other new reality shows. Big, whoa. No, no. I mean, too bad. I'm sorry. I'm not too big on the reality show, even though I'm a big fan of Big Brother. And by the way, who was not happy with the fact that Ms. Fang won Jordan. So happy for you, Jordan and Jeff. All right. Jordan won. Jeff's one favorite house guest of the season. Thanks to all the voters in Jordan and Jeff's. Continue that romance. I'm just saying. I am just saying. I'm Jordan and Jeff all the way, baby. Kiss it. Natalie. Yeah. Yeah. I was not a Natalie fan, as you can tell. Yeah. But for French to sacrifice because of reality shows, it's not cool. Not cool. But hopefully it will be better and we'll have that consistent string of new episodes week after week. And of course, you know, you have your rerun dude between. That's the norm. But I mean, we'll actually have a nice full season not worrying about the fact that is it going to be on, it's not going to be on the streets. Really? I love French. I don't want to feel cheated. And that's how I felt last season. I felt cheated. You know, we could have had a lot more than what we got. And then that we're going to give it a whole lot. So hopefully that this season we will be able to see every and anything. So cross your fingers. I can only just talk to him about the new season of the show as well as the fact that he was on a lot of other programs. He was on odd laws in order of special victims units. He was in the wire. I'm like, wow, he has done so much. He was on law. And I want to pinpoint out there that this is lost last season. I did not know that until last week that this is going to be lost last season. Can you believe that? I cannot believe that. That's really, really cool. Not cool, but it's really, really cool. But yeah, it's early in the morning for me, ladies and gentlemen. I don't make sense. All right. I believe we're joined by our next guest for all of you who don't know. He plays the role of Phil Broil on the hit "Fox Show" Fringe. He was also on the wire, which got him critically acclaimed. Global fan base. And make sure you check out the "C" Fringe tomorrow only on Fox, Mr. Lance. Reddit is joining us. Hello. Hello. How are you? I'm fine this morning. How are you? I'm doing very well. Doing very well. Thanks for joining us this morning. It's my pleasure. So describe Philip Broils for us, for those of you who don't know exactly this character. Well, Philip Broils is a special agent of, you know, depending on which episode you watch, especially a team of Homeland Security who is in charge of this kind of elite team of investigators, governmental investigators based out of the FBI, who investigates these super scientific crimes of terrorism and murder. And it's called the Fringe Division, which is, you know, part of where the name comes from. And also Fringe comes from the kind of science that is involved in, which is called Fringe Science. Okay. All right. So what can we expect and then if you can get something away, what can we expect in the new season? What can we see? Well, well, in terms of my character specifically, you're going to see a little bit more of me. Yeah, we, you know, at the end of the last season, we alluded to the fact that I'm divorced. So you get to meet my ex-wife. You get to find out kind of why I got divorced. You can find out more of my professional history. What my relationship to Fringe Division was before this particular team happened and what Fringe Division, excuse me, what Fringe Division's relationship is to the US government. And you're also going to see much more interaction between the two universes. Nice. I cannot wait till tomorrow. I love this show. I cannot wait till tomorrow. Now, you have done this show called The Wire. The Wire was something else, wasn't it? Yeah, the Wire was, wow, that was kind of a very, that was a very, very unique experience, both inside and out. Yeah, and that really did give you a huge fan base. And I mean, wow, I haven't even seen that in so long. I even kind of forgot a little bit about it, but it was trippy. But no, it's easy to forget things about The Wire, especially if you've only seen it once, because it's still dense and such a complex game. And it really was basically a five season novel where each season was its own case, but get all the, you know, all the, I don't want to see all the cases are connected. But there's one kind of through line of the characters for, there's one through line for all the characters. So it really was like a five season novel with five, but, you know, a novel with five sections. Now, how are, you know, everybody knows you as you're able to play these multi-dimensional characters on TV and in films. How much, how much of you do we see in, in Phillip Broils? How much of Lance Reddick do we see in Phillip Broils? It's all. Wow. Alright, that's a tough question. You know, I, the first thing I would say is that, you know, I don't, when people meet me, and I found this particularly when I played Lieutenant Daniel's The Wire, people thought that they were meeting that guy, and I'm not that guy. But, by the way, don't get, I guess, excuse me. If there's anything that is of me in there, it's kind of, the thing that I try to find inside myself is just how, how people the character feels about what's happening. Okay. We'll go with that one. Yeah, I mean, that's a difficult question for me because I'm always trying to kind of reach so far, as far outside of myself as possible. Oh, okay. I gotcha. There we go. Yeah. Now I get in it. Alright. I did not know that. You know, the more, as I think about it, in terms of Phillip Broils, I mean, the other thing about the guy is that, I mean, he's really, really, really committed to his work. And he, I mean, the other answer just went right out of my head. He's very, he's very private, and I'm that way. Oh, okay. Yeah. Now I'm definitely getting there. Now, I just mentioned this, maybe like a few seconds before you got on about loss of the finals season. You were on that show of Matthew. And I did not know that. I did not know that that was like a little trivia. Someone gave me when I told them that you were going to be on there that you were on that show. And how was it, how was it like doing that show as well? Because that, that, that was, that's a cool show too. That's in the flat seat. Well, you know, that was such a cool experience. And even the way that it came about was so subtle. Because I was cast on loss right as I was finishing the last season. I mean, I think I was shooting like the, the, the, the eighth or ninth episode of The Wire. One of the last season when I found out, when I found out that I was cast on loss. And it was one of the things where I actually got that role because the executive producers were huge wire fans. So, and then being able to do something that was so, so completely different from Lieutenant Daniels was really, and some, and the J.J. Abrams show was really, really exciting to do. The character that was so completely mysterious and really so kind of almost so shadowy that literally every time you see him, he seems, the character seems like a different character. Right, right, exactly. And then we got, we got three minutes left. I want to, I want to ask about this because I think this is so interesting. How did YNC films come about? I want to delve into that, if I can't. Wow, you know, I mean, well, you know, I started a couple years ago. It's really, I'm still working to get to get it off the ground, but it came about because I was, you know, as a black character actor, dramatic character actor, you know, it's, it's very difficult to kind of find a place, a niche in Hollywood. Particularly in film, because, you know, they tend to want to go straight to stereotype or it's, it's, it's, it's easy to become a film star if you're a stand up comedian or if you're a rapper, that if you're a dramatic actor, as an African American. So I started it partly because, you know, I wanted to find ways to express myself in feature film that I felt like just opportunities just weren't there. But more than that, I wanted to, I want to go back to the type of filmmaking that was really prevalent in the 50s and up through the 60s in the early 70s. That, you know, more filmmaking that looks like the wire, you know, okay, okay, you know, it's stuff like the hustler and the godfather. And street coordinate desire, you know, all, you know, I really want to, or, or the French connection, you know, I want to, I want to go back and I want to make, I think people are hungry for that kind of serious, complex, socially relevant drama. And I really think it's time to kind of burst the myth that Hollywood thinks that everything needs to be about explosions and movie stars that get $20 million a picture and kind of spoon feeding people like they've done. Oh, okay, definitely. All right, that's pretty cool. I like that. We got one minute left. I want to promote again that the season premiere of French is tomorrow. It's at 9 p.m. I believe correct following bones. On Fox, you'll be able to see Lance Reddick as well as Josh Jackson a tour of the show. Make sure you guys check it out. It's going to be going to be blessed. I'm telling you, friends is where it's at. I love JJ Abrams's work. And if you like JJ Abrams yourself, this is the show for you. Lance Reddick, thanks so much for stopping by. I know you got other places and you visit the schedule. Thanks so much for stopping by this morning. It was a pleasure having you. Thank you. My pleasure. Thank you. Absolutely. Take care now. All right, guys, French tomorrow night, 9 p.m. Eastern time, only on Fox. Make sure you guys check it out. We are going to be back. Hopefully soon.
