I'm your host, the bell, Jaylee, coming live at 11 a.m. This Tuesday, April 28, 2009, the phone number to call in at 646-595-4228. We're going to be joined by one life to live, John brothers, and he is on the line with us right now. Let's bring him on. John, you with us? Hey, how are we doing? We're doing good. How's yourself? I'm fantastic, in fact, it's push of 90 here in New York, so I'm walking my dog in Central Park right now. Life couldn't be better, I guess you could say. You're walking? I'm just sitting here in a nice, cool, refreshing air conditioning, so this is like pretty good for me too. Oh, wonderful, good. Well, I'll tell you what, after six months of darkness, I'm more than happy to get out in some sun. It's refreshing, man, it's good to see this. Oh, my God, I can't believe that we're having this heat rush in April. I mean, it's not even the summer. We're having this bad 90-degree heat wave right now. This is so freaking cool. I know it's wild, I think what was like three weeks ago, snow came down, so it's kind of bizarre, but hey, you know, I'm not complaining. I'm not complaining either, you know. I need this, so, you know, I love it. But anyway, you're like this big guy on "One Life to Live." You play this character named Jared Banks on the show. Notice how I'm trying to fake sound like, you know what I mean, but I actually know this guy. You know? Oh, yeah. So, like, I'm trying to fake it all the way through, but even I can't even pull it off. But, yeah, you played Jared on the show. Oh, yeah. Jared is just like, what's the best way to say? He's a conflicted hero. Let's put it that way. He's a conflicted hero. There you go. I haven't heard that one yet, and I think that's a great way to put it. He's kind of been through the ringer. He started out, you know, I'd say with more of an agenda and has sort of made peace with the fact that he's been excited. The fact that he's been accepted into the Buchanan clan, so he's gone through a wave of emotions and continues to. But I think he's okay being the hero when he can, and I think he's okay being the villain when he can. So, he likes to keep his peers on their toes, I guess you could say. Yeah, he's definitely been through. You know, he begs being a Buchanan. He got caught. He's in direct call of the guy's death. I think he's kind of did it all, but then he saved a few lives and everyone's forgiven, you know, forgives him. So, it's as easy as that in the land view. Yeah, but now you're still going on that path because now you're keeping a secret about stars, baby being alive. Your character's keeping that secret. Your character and the list of artists, character Natalie on the show. But you're not going to tell star, but you want to keep jazz happy. So it's just, it's just. Yeah, it's an ongoing, you know, it's ongoing drama, it's ongoing. You know, it's funny though, when I first got on the show, Hillary Smith, who plays Nora, said, "Always have a secret." Not that we have any control over that, but it does lend to drama, I guess, from an actor's perspective and from a character's perspective. If you're the guy with a secret, you're always up to something. So, it's been fun, you know, it's been, it's just another angle to play. And so, you know, we've kind of been hanging on the secret for a while trying to keep the piece, but something tells me that's not going to work out in the end. No, it's not. So, if it keeps you going, it's like, "I got something to do." And, you know, having that secret there is a playoff of, that's pretty tight. Yeah, no, exactly, exactly. History has a way of repeating itself, so, you know, one of these days, the secret is definitely going to, you know, come to the surface and we'll have to deal with that when that happens. So, that's kind of what, you know, we're working on now. So, a little trivia in the tidbit that many, many may not know, probably many of you do know. But a little, little, little trivia here for you. It seems that I heard that your first air date was actually on your birthday. Yeah, which was just totally random. And one of those things that you feel like the stars sort of aligned, and they said, "Hey, here's a nice little birthday for you. Yeah, so that was pretty cool." I didn't even find out about that. I mean, I came on and started shooting in early July of, you know, two years ago. And so, it wasn't until, like, I checked with somebody in production. I'm like, "Hey, by the way, you know, when, you know, my mom wants to know, of course, when, when's my first air date going to be?" And, sure enough, it was on my birthday. So, that was, that was, that was kind of a treat. And it's not my, obviously, we'll never forget. So, yeah, it's been pretty cool. My 27th birthday. Nice. Congratulations. Thank you. Yeah, it was really cool. How was, how was your first day on set? What was it like? My first down set was a whirlwind. I think, it tends to be when you're, when you're new on the show, they throw, like, you know, ten episodes at you at one time. But I had such a blast. It was, it was myself, Forbes, March, who played Nash and, and then Roxy, we're, we're playing poker. That was my first scene I shot, where I come in and I swindle him out of money and yada yada. And, you know, take money that he needed for the vineyard and this, that, and the other thing. But it was just a lot of fun because we were playing a lot of angles. Here you had Roxy who was, you know, drunk, go figure. And Nash, who was, you know, angry and bitter and yada yada. And so it was just a ton of fun. And then I think my second scene, that same day, they had us in the sauna. So it was one big day of, you know, this, this, that and the other thing. But it was a ton of fun. You know, I never, I, I just jumped. I felt like I just thought I should just jump in head first and not really worry about it. And it was really like just going to the playground. I had a ton of fun and it kind of hasn't stopped. Exactly. How did, how did, how did the whole, how did the whole role come about for you? Um, you know, it was, it was kind of funny because it was one of those things where, you know, I was in LA doing the, you know, typical actor thing, making my way. I was waiting tables and doing, you know, auditioning and building little stuff here and there. I was working on my own little project and just trying to find my, my way and my journey and my path. And it was just another, I had previously auditioned for General Hospital and met Mark Teshner, who's, I just think the world of, he's the casting director at General Hospital. And he'd called me in on a few things. And then he called him an injury. And he said, you know, I think I have this thing for John in New York for, you know, one life. It's not for us, but I bring them in. We'll put them on tape and send them, send it back there. So came in, put it on tape, you know, didn't think much of it. It's like any audition as soon as you walk out of the room, you got to sort of let it go, otherwise you're going to beat yourself up. And I want to say two or three weeks went by. So, you know, I had probably gone on other auditions at that point. I totally forgot about it, in other words. Um, and my, I'm sitting at breakfast with my, my, well, at the time she was my girlfriend with my wife. And my manager called and said, hey, John, I said, yeah, I said, do you have one life to live? I started laughing. I'm like, sure, why? And he's like, well, they want to fly to New York to test you. And I said, hey, where's my ticket? I'm there. Um, so they, you know, they flew me that like Friday to test. And they said, we'd know by Monday. And then Monday rolled around. There's my phone at rings to my manager. And I'm thinking, here's my life is, you know, changing by this phone call. Either, either nothing's changing and I'm up for a big disappointment. Or my whole world's changing and I answered the phone and it was neither. He said, well, there's good news and there's bad news. So good news is, um, at least the bad news is they want to test you again. Good news is you're the only one coming back from the first batch. So I was like, hey, at least I'm still in the running. Um, we'll rock and roll, fly out there and do it again. So that next Friday, I flew out there and did it again. They switched wardrobe. The first round was business suit. Second round was, they said, dressed like a rock star. So it was, it was totally the same scene, which was funny. Well, actually they added some, you know, cuts and changes to see. They literally came in like 10 minutes before I was supposed to test. Like, there's been cuts and changes to the scene. I think they try to, like, throw you. Um, so I tested again on the next Friday and they said, well, we'll know next Monday. And so I, you know, I was waiting for next Monday, but, but that night, I'm getting in line at the airport to get on the plane. My phone rings and it's my manager. And I'm thinking, well, he's probably checking on me that, you know, we don't know anything yet. I answered the phone and he told me we were on a five-way call with my other manager and my agents. And I'm thinking, okay, this is weird. Yeah, yeah. One of my agents chimed in and said, hey, John, how do you like the weather in New York? And I said, uh, I could get used to it. And they all sort of erupted in applause and said, go home pack of bags. You have five days. So it was great, man. It was a whirlwind of events. Um, it was sort of a mini little roller coaster, you know, because it was constantly- Oh my gosh. That was funny. The cool thing was I worked at a place where, um, my boss was really supportive. Um, and he knew that, you know, that, uh, that waiting tables wasn't necessarily my, uh, my end I'll be all in life. And he was really supportive and said, do whatever you need to do. And if you need to quit tomorrow, I'll, I'll be the first to shake your hand and congratulate you. And so it was really cool. So, yeah, they said you got the job and I had five days to go home pack my bags, turn around, and start a new life in New York. There you go. It's been some true. Yeah. There you go. That's how it happens, isn't it? That's how it happens. Yeah. That is exactly how it happens. And so it allowed me at the same time, me and my wife, or, you know, like I said at the time, she's my girlfriend, but we'd, we knew we were on the path to getting married, but we hadn't really, we weren't in a place yet. So that was definitely the catalyst for me to go out and purchase a little sparkly thing and, you know, feel like I was man enough at a place in my life where I could get on a knee and say, be mine and it all worked out in the end. So it's been, yeah, it's been, I mean, long story short, it's just been nothing but a blessing. It's really been an incredible time and it's a treat to go to work. I love the people I work with. And, and I just, you know, every day is like going to the playground. So. Hello? Uh oh. You there? Absolutely. Absolutely. Now, now we got some, we got tons of band clusters for you today. And, and for those of you who want to get in on the phone conversation, you can call in at 646-595-4228. This actually is an email from, I'm going to say this name wrong. So bad. Okay. So I'm not even going to attend it. I'm just going to say your email address, nammer@yahoo.com wants to know if you plan on working on any more short films or any writing or directing in the near future. Uh, without a doubt for sure. Um, whether it be a short film or a feature. Uh, after doing my short with my partner Rand Holdren, um, who actually just to plug him, he just is in the movie, um, Into the Blue Two that was released. But, uh, after doing that, I fell in love with the whole process. Okay. We kind of put ourselves through film school. Um, and without a doubt, it's in my future. Whether it be writing, I definitely want to direct. That part to me was, was the, really the golden ticket. I just loved it. I just had such a blast directing. Um, and writing. Producing was fun, but I think, uh, having, that we were playing, you know, we had four hats on the acting, writing, directing, producing. That was the toughest because often, you know, the other three are so artistically driven and then producing literally between scenes were on the phone, making sure, you know, food was being delivered, which can sort of throw your artistic juices. But, but, uh, yes, definitely, um, somewhere in the future, you know, have lots of little ideas that I'm sort of swirling around in my head. This job obviously kind of slowed things down for, you know, obvious reasons, but it's, for good reasons. Um, but, uh, you know, now that I've sort of in the groove here and stuff, um, we will let, you know, that other kind of stuff unfold. Um, but I would definitely want to end up someday, you know, writing and directing and being able to do, do a little bit of everything, even though that sounds maybe selfish, but I, you know, not sure attacking the leaves, man. You know, I, I just, uh, I really enjoy it. I love the whole process, making movies and making TV and film and song stories. Every little bit of it's just so much fun. So, um, without a doubt, there's, there's more to come. Absolutely. That's great. Hope that answered your question. And, uh, we got Joanne in the, in the chat room, um, Joanne from Stardust Radio, who I believe you had the pleasure of. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Wow. And, uh, she, she's in there and she wants to send you congratulations on your one-year anniversary for me when you're- Ah, well, thank you, thank you, thank you. Yes, it's coming up. It's crazy. It's, uh, it's, I guess, now just over a month away, which is, which is wild. It's, it's flown by. It's, um, but yet, I mean, we still feel like newly, uh, newlyweds on one hand and the other hand. Sometimes we look at, look at each other and we feel like we've been married for 60 years. So, it's, uh, we have a neat little deal going on. Nice. Congratulations. Oh. You better, you better buy some nice flowers. I can't even take that too expensive there. Yeah, I think that's absolutely in order right now. I think that's definitely in order. That's great. That's great. Let's take this, uh, this caller here from, uh, 304 area code. You're on the line with John Brotherton. He's supposed to write a video on her. Are you this morning? I'm good. Hi, John. It's Trudy. Hey, Trudy. How are you? I'm great. How are you doing? I want to start off by, I'm great. And I want to start off by saying thank you. We get all your little treats and letters and, and for anyone that doesn't know, Trudy's a huge support. So thank you, Trudy. Well, thank you. Like you said, you do your part. We are also appreciative of everything you do. And you get so many compliments on the message boards about all the little touches and little things that you do, that when you're not at the center of the scene, everybody just still, still watches you because you're always doing something and you're always saying in character and you never phone it in. So we really do appreciate that. Oh, well, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. That's it. I wanted to ask you about, I've been dying to know what you said you played football in high school. And I want to see if I can guess what position. I bet you can't, to be honest, unless you've done your research. I haven't done any research on you. I have to ask you a couple of questions. Okay. How big was your high school? How many people were in graduating class? 2,200 kids in my high school and 420 were in my graduating class. Oh, my God. You didn't play both sides of the ball. No, well, yeah, not much, but sometimes. Okay. When did you reach your full height? How tall were you? Are you there? Yeah, I'm here. Oh, that's weird. Some little robotic voice just timed in. I reached my full height. I think when I was probably a sophomore, I think, a sophomore junior. How fast did you run the 40? Oh, man. I don't even remember. Right about five. Okay. I was quicker than I was fast. Okay. Oh, okay. So, I'm going to take a wild guess and say you played offense. I did. Okay. And I'm going to guess you were probably in the secondary. No, see, this is the part that's going to get people. I was much larger. I was much larger. Yes. I was a big football bread boy. Oh, my gosh. I can't imagine. I was about, to be honest, I was about 45 pounds heavier than I was right now. Oh, my gosh. My leg worked out like three trunks. And I was... You were like... Yeah, I was. Football was my life for a long time. Wow. I thought that was my ticket except in the playoffs in my senior year. I heard my ankle really bad and it gave me a chance to step back and sort of reevaluate what I wanted to do in the future. And especially in college because my brother played at University of Washington. And he had said, you know, it becomes a business at that point. So really, you know, you just want to make sure that that's the business you want to be in and you don't want to experience other things in college. And I wanted to study abroad and I wanted to, you know, do the fraternity thing and maybe, you know, just kind of test my feet in many different waters. So it was... I ended up not playing, which was really hard for me for a long time because it was just in my blood. But thank God. The identity gets wrapped up in that too, especially in school. Totally, totally, totally. And I went to a high school. It was really fun in high school. So I went to high school. I had like a program where, you know, we were ranked in the country my senior year and we had, you know, we went to the state championship and yada, yada, yada. So that was really fun being a part of like, you know, at that age, being a part of something that was such a buzz. And it was really difficult. They sports their whole lives and never get an opportunity to go to a championship game ever or so. Yeah, no, it was really, it was really one of those. It was a cool, cool, cool deal. But, you know, we just, I just had an opportunity to sort of walk away from it and say, you know, these are the things I want to do. I'm obviously not going to end up playing pro one day. I just wasn't in that category. I wasn't Hercules. So I just said, you know, let's go do other things and thank God I did because if I hadn't of, you know, traveled to Europe and got to do things that sort of set my soul free, I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing today. Well, thank you very much. And I'll let you get on to some of the other callers. But again-- All right. Well, thank you, Trudy. I appreciate you. Oh, well, thank you. We definitely appreciate you. And I'm sure I'll see you soon at something. Okay. All right. Thank you so much, Trudy. Bye-bye. All right. Let's get this caller here. I think I recognize this one. If I'm wrong, you can smack me. But is this Georgia? Hello. Hi, Georgia. How are you? Good. I just called to listen because I read on Twitter that you're on buzzwordy. That's all. Oh, okay. Well, how are you? Good. What's up? I'm actually standing outside while I live waiting for my friend. Isn't that weird? Oh, there you go. Hey, I'm standing in the middle of Central Park walking my dog and enjoying the sun. How beautiful is it out today, huh? Oh, my gosh. It's so nice. It's nothing like Florida. It's so hot in Florida. It's gross. Oh, it's too hot. Yeah. It's really hot. It was like 90 when I left yesterday. It's like hot, hot. So over here, it's nice and breezy, even though it's ruining my hair, but it's breezy. It's so nice. There are priorities. There are. I'm telling you what. There are. It's way too breezy. Well, it feels good when I'm standing. Anyways, I just called to listen, but I'm sure I'll probably see you either sometime this week. I'll be back later. All right, great. Well, thank you for calling in and the support and all that good stuff. You're welcome. I'll talk to you later. All right. You too. All right. All right. Take care. All right. We got a question in the chat room here for you. This is from Tammy, and she wants to know, is you know if they're going to set a date for the marriage for Natalie and Jared, and if you're going to play more of the family angle with your on-screen dad currently? Well, I'm going to answer that in a very political way. Yes, I do know. If they've set a date, whether I can review that or not, I obviously cannot. So I answered the question, yes, but no. Yes, it's brewing, and it's in the future, but as far as how it comes, I think it may come as a surprise. And the question is, do you have any questions? It's in the future, but as far as how it comes, I think it may come as a surprise. And I sure hope that they write more stuff with Brian and I, Charlie. Brian Kerwin's the actor, because I just think the world of him, I have such a blast every time we work together. He's such a pro. He makes things so easy as an actor when you're in the scene with him, working with him. It's so comfortable, which works double well the fact that he's my dad. So I'm able to feel like, as if I would, I feel at complete ease to do and say whatever I want around him, and that's the way it should be with family. And so nothing like, we don't have necessarily a storyline brewing now, but I sure hope they press in the future, and I always tell people, hey, write in, and if that's what you're looking for, they do listen to people that write in. I mean, as much as it might feel like your voice isn't being heard. They read every letter, and they take note of every little phone call, and they count mail counts, and they do all that kind of stuff. So the fans have more power than they think. Exactly. And Ron Carlevati, God bless his heart. I mean, I'm a huge fan of this guy, and he seems to be doing a whirlwind of stuff with one life to live right now, and it's so great, so fantastic. You know, I give huge props to him, and everybody, all the cats in the crew of the show right now, it's absolutely fantastic. It's one of the shows that everybody should be watching, and you know, if you can't watch on ABC during the day, there's always soap net, it's always BVR. Amen, amen. So I have to say, it's fantastic what's going on with the show right now. Well, thank you. We have a great group. That's the thing that makes it easy. I mean, all the way down, I'm talking to everybody. You know, on set, we're all family, crew actors, cameras, directors, producers. Everyone's in the same boat. We're trying to get to the same place at the end of the day. We have a ton of fun together, and we're really one big family, which I think, you know, it helps a lot when you have to, you know, try to tell a story every day. So... And Ron. And Ron, yeah. I was just going to say, and Ron's probably the hardest working man in day time. It just, I was, we were out the other night, and we were sitting there chatting, and it just, it blows my mind what he has to, you know, do on a daily basis, and it has to come out of his head, you know, I don't know. Right. It's crazy to, to, uh, manifest all these story lines at once, um, and have them intertwined and make everyone happy, and I mean, ah, it just, it blows my mind. So, you know, props to him, for sure. And Frank Valentini, our executive producer, he's, he's sort of the rock star of the industry. He knows, that man knows what he's doing. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. And we have time for one more caller, Aria Cruz, 718. Where are you located at, 718? Hi, it's Tammy, and I'm a nose-on park in New York. What's happening? Hi. I'm glad you answered my question. I'm hoping that I get to meet you at the next diva event. Diva? I kind of missed you the other night. Yeah. What was the diva then? What's the diva then? The concert. With Cassie Depiva and... Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. Got you. I don't, you know, to be honest, I don't know. What do you know when the date on that is? Well, they had a prohibition. What was that? Couple of weeks ago, the 19th? Oh, you know what? I was in North Carolina. That's right. I was in North Carolina on a little boys weekend. In fact, JP was down there with me. We were having a little golf vacation. And I think Kristin did my nails. Oh, great. Oh, cool. Yeah, she's awesome. So JP was there and everybody was there. We had a blast. Very, very, very, very cool. But I don't live that far from the studio. So I do look forward to meeting you and I do love your work. Oh, well, thank you so much. I appreciate it. I can't wait now that you're not a Buchanan anymore. Maybe they could play more of an angle how, you know, Charlie fits into your life and how he's trying to get back into your good graces and all. Yeah, and I sure hope so. I sure hope so. I just, you know, like I previously said, I just think the world of him and I just love working with him. So the more that they can give us, it would be, you know, the better. Oh, that, and I was at the studio on Friday, right before the event. I think it was the 17th, the 18th. Right. Yeah, Friday was the 17th. So I'm sorry. I missed you there, too. Oh, no. That's why that's the same week that, like I said, we were down in North Carolina playing a little golf for a long. It was almost a full week of, of boy time. We had a man's weekend as we like to call it. That was a good time. It was nothing but it was, it was two rounds of golf a day, a barbecue and poker every day. It was, you know, it was a ton of fun. So I'm going to get in on that. I got to get in on that. Oh, man. So I could always check your bags for you and then just jump in secretly and, you know, just go through. There we go. And you'll just find me on the other end. No problem. You'll know nothing. Yeah, I won't say it worked. Your bag will be safe. Put it that way. Yeah, yeah. Great. Thank you so much for taking my call. Oh, my gosh. Thank you. Thank you for your support. Have a great day. You too. Take care. Bye. Thank you. So funny. So listen, listen, I would love for you to do a promo for us, for our show here. Okay. You can say this is John Brotherton, for one life to live, and you're listening to Buzzworthy Radio. You can improvise that line in any way, shape, form, but the floor is your friend. Okay. We'll start there and maybe who knows? All right. This is John Brotherton. You listen to Buzzworthy Radio, and it's a beautiful day outside. Yes. That's sort of what I was doing. I'm staring up at the sky with the sun right now. And you're looking at the clouds to the cloud formation. Yeah. I don't know. Yeah, there's not many in this, in this, this guy right now. But was that good? You want to do it again? What, that work? Oh, no, I liked it. I liked it. And now that you mentioned that part, what is your dog? He's a golden retriever. Oh, nice. I love those. He's the friendliest dog in the world, and he came with no doggy skills. Yeah. He's such a love, and he's such a sweetheart, and he can't jump off the ground. Oh, that's so cool. I love golden retrievers. He really is the best. He's the best. He really is. He's just a sweet, sweet, sweet soul. Absolutely. Thank you. Thank you so much for coming on the show today. It was great having you. My pleasure. My pleasure. Anytime. All right, man. Take care now. Have fun. You guys have a wonderful day. Enjoy the sun. You too. All right. Bye-bye. All right, you guys.
