I have to say, I think that that is The one of the longest introductions The longest promos you've ever had on the show But it's also one of the coolest So it sort of balances each other out, it's pretty cool I don't think that was actually the longest I think we actually had a longer one To be quite honest with you, but I'm not kidding But we're going to be joined by Kevin Rudolf today Most of you know his latest single That's out there, that's basically One of the hugest hits I've ever heard of my life And I can't stop listening to it It's actually my ringtone on my phone Let it rock, featuring the little flame Kevin Rudolf, man, Kevin Rudolf is going to be joining us That's awesome Cool, he's a very good song And hopefully we're going to find out what he's meant to He's been torn into that One of my friends actually went to go see him In Chicago, so they actually got the name So that's pretty cool Here's a very nice person Alright, well let's see, let's bring on this caller here Area code 305, you're on the line right now, how are you? What's up, this is Kevin Rudolf Hey, how's it going, man? What's up, man? Not too much, you know, like I said I was listening to this song before I even started the show the day I was like, I was so in tune with it, you know I was like, hey, it's my ringtone, I listen to it all the time Appreciate that, man Yep, absolutely And one of the things I read about you, actually This isn't the first time you've branched down into the music And you actually worked with Timbaland and Nelly Potato And Justin Timbalak on a few tracks of their own, is that right? Yeah, I mean, I got my start from As a guitar player, writer, producer Those records, I ended up meeting Timbaland like maybe three, four years ago And I just started playing guitar on a lot of the records that he was doing And it was just a good way for me to get in and also, you know Kind of, you know, just kind of be a sponge and watch what he was doing as a producer And as a writer and just, you know, help perfect my craft And also getting involved with a lot of, you know, a lot of big records at the time to see You know, kind of not how they're made, but just to get in there And be a part of it, you know, on my craft Exactly, you're still working with him now? I mean, I saw Tim, like, about, I don't know, a few months ago His letter rocks started to blow up And it's funny, you know, he said to me, I said, "Yo, you know, let a rock blow up just yet" He says, "You're doing a lot of radio shows?" And I said, "Well, yeah, you know, I'm doing a lot of interviews." He said, "Well, man, make sure you send him a fruit basket" And I was like the funniest thing, because I'm like, man, Tim's the last dude on Earth that I thought would say something like that, you know? But, you know, he told me how to play the game, you know? You guys might be in the fruit basket later, I don't know You might get a fruit basket? Hopefully, I might have a fruit basket. He said a fruit basket, so, you know, that's his thing So one of the people that you worked with on your new single is Lil Wayne, who is just pretty much, like, blown up What was it like to work with him? Wayne's dope, man. I mean, Wayne's family, Wayne's on cash money, you know, I've been on the floor And, you know, we're working on more stuff together for his next album I mean, he's super cool, man, he's brilliant, you know, I think he's got a lot more depth and range And people you've been seeing, man, I think, getting to see it on his next album But, man, it's just great to be able to work with the top people in the game, in any industry And I was lucky to meet a lot of them early on, and now that Wayne is, you know, on my team or on his team, whatever, we're work, you know, it's just a good thing It feels great to be, like, supported by someone like him, you know what I mean? Lil Wayne, say, "Yo, I back you, I'm going to be a part of what you're doing" It's a great cosign to get this early in the game It's amazing Now, people have been, basically, been trying to find your picture All of them, man, there's pictures everywhere, yo, I don't get that, I'm in the video, pictures there What are you guys talking about? I don't understand it I know, right? This is all stemming, like, I think, this is what I think happens, like, with the internet now Like, people, they read one thing on Wikipedia, and then everyone asked me about it So, what was it like when you said this? I said, "I didn't do that." It's not true, somebody went up there and wrote that, and it's not true It's like, you guys got to understand something, right? This record started, like, three and a half months ago, four months ago, you know, no one knew my name I go into restaurants and people recognize me everywhere I go, so I don't know what the term of this picture thing It all started from the fact that I didn't have a MySpace when we first started Because I'm not really a MySpace person, I check it now because I like to keep contact with people who lit me up But I just don't like, I'm not one of those people, man, you know, I'm working them on the road I'm a video, like, I'm just not, like, MySpace thing every day So I don't have any pictures, though, because I just don't roll like that, you know? So that's what it started from, like, what is it? It's like, you know, everyone, you know, I don't know, I don't know what that's about, so, next question [laughter] Well, you should be getting, like, noticed One of the people, I'm sure, that I know a lot of singers and actors and celebrities out there do not want to be noticed by It's sort of the TMZ, have you experienced some, like, paparazzi crap? No, not really, I mean, like, where I get, like, I'm going to a restaurant, I get noticed, or, you know, I hear people whispering, like, just can't move out for Or, you know, I'll, like, you know what's crazy when we did the shows, like, the jingle ball shows the radio stuff I would go out and, like, David Archlett would be on stage, and I'm thinking, well, he's way more fit, you know, this kid's on, like, TV, you know, 24/7 Nobody knows, even who I am, I walk on the side of the stage, and all these 12-year-old girls start screaming and rushing They're the side of the stage and everything, I'm like, how did I even know? It's crazy, you know, but paparazzi stuff I mean, that's, you know, I don't think I'll ever get involved in that stuff, man, if I can avoid it, that's not really my style You know, I'm about, you know, if I do an interview, like, I want someone to talk to me about, you know, my crap, music, production, guitar playing, stuff like that, you know, not, like, oh my God, I heard, like, Lindsay Lohan, like, what's working for you? You know, oh, this crap, I read this thing in England, someone saying something like, oh, it's just the funniest thing that it says, it says, I'll show Lohan who's boss, like, like, I talk like that, like, yeah, I say things like that, you know, it's ridiculous It's funny, speaking about the jingle ball concert, somebody who, one of my friends, wanted to say hello to you, Michael Lynn, I guess, I think she met you, I don't know, she said she wanted to give you a shout out to say hello, and you were, like, the nicest person ever, that's what she said Oh, cool, tell her, thank you, and is she hot? Um, she was my friend's roommate, so I'm not, you know, she's one family, you know? She's one of them. I liked it. So, hello, thank you, and, um, and, uh, I'll be back. There you go. So, how long have you, how long have you been playing guitar? Is this something, music is something you wanted to get into every century young kid? I mean, you know, you started, it's like anything else, man, you start out, you start playing, you get a guitar, because you think it looks cool, you know, you start playing, and you go, wow, I could maybe get a guitar, you know, you start playing the cafeteria, a couple girls come over, and then you start thinking, man, I should get good at this. And then you just go for one thing to the next, man, you know, I got a keyboard, I started producing, I started making tracks, I started writing, I started doing my whole own thing. Then I got into this whole hip hop world, because of the guitar playing things, if you go into any room and no one can play guitar in hip hop, really. There's very few people, you know, a lot of great producers, a lot of great writers, a lot of great rappers, but no one's a guitar player. So I'd walk in and I'd just start, you know, messing around on the guitar, and people would go, man, man, I got to have that. So come over here, you know, I met David Banner, be like, yeah, come over here in this room, and I'd be doing something to him, and then, you know, be there with Justin Timberlake and all these people. And it just kind of happened, but to tell you the truth, that's not really how I even got to start. You know, I got to start with Slim and Baby from Cash Money, heard what I was doing as a writer and a producer, and they didn't see me in the light of the guitar player, like Tim saw me, you know what I mean? I mean, my thing with Tim was always cool, but like, you know, he's a producer, so no producer wants to find another producer, you know what I mean? It's like, you know, what do you do, go to Eddie Van Halen and say, hey, I play guitar, you know what I mean? It doesn't work like that. So, you know, basically I ended up meeting Slim and Baby, and they were just like, I was like from another world, but they were totally, like, non-judgmental and cool, and they were like, yeah, he just does dope music, and it's fresh, and it's original, and it's some new, you know, things. So, they really gave me the open door to do what I'm doing now. Oh, great. That's awesome. That's awesome. And one of the things I always like to ask you is, in your own words, how did you describe your music? Like, what kind of genre would you play today if you can play today or anything? I don't place it in this genre. I can tell you that, you know, I try to place it in the good music genre. I do what I do. I, you know, I try to pay real close attention to everything as far as the writing, the production. I care about what I do. I care about having music that says something in substance. I mean, substance, and it's like, you know, there ain't a lot of music right now in the top 20 or 10 or 5 or whatever, but it's actually talking about anything. I feel like maybe me and maybe a couple other people are the only people who are actually, you can sit down with the lyrics and go, "Okay, you know, this dude is actually talking about something other than, you know, Liz Shaker, I love you tonight, whatever, baby." I mean, I'm like talking about real stuff in my song, and I do on the whole album, and the whole album is crazy like that. You know what I mean? I just, I mean, people don't even know what's on the album yet. You know what I mean? I'm not even talking, like, I'm trying to promote it. I mean, you know, I'm fine. I'm doing well. It's "Let a Rock is Lovely," you know what I mean? It's great, but people need to hear this album because it's really like, you know, I'm talking about deep stuff on this. Like, people haven't talked about since like the '70s, I think, on a record, you know? Exactly. Can you tell us, who, you mentioned for the one lyric, who is it that you're talking about in "Let a Rock"? The sun's just crazy. I mean, who isn't? Can you tell us? It's kind of like, it's like an analogy. I mean, I've heard people say it's like a biblical Jesus in Judas thing. I'm not going to say it's not that, but I'm not going to say it is that it's kind of neither. It's sort of like, you know, the way I write a lot of time is a little abstract, and it's like kind of stream of consciousness, so I sort of let the words just come to me, and then I decide for the meaning afterwards, you know? On that song, it's about hypocrisy, and it does have like a somewhat of a biblical theme, you know, especially in the second verse. It's basically saying I'm putting everyone on blast, who's fake, who's coming out, who thinks that they're authentic and deep and have something to say. I'm saying you have nothing to say, you know what I mean? You're completely full of, you know, stuff. But, you know what I mean? It's just like, you're, you know, and when I say it, when I arrive, I bring the fire, it's not like get up and dance, and you know, it's not supposed to be just a rally song. I'm saying, when I come through, I'm bringing the truth, and the truth is going to expose you in what you're doing is fake, because you're not coming from an authentic place, and I am. I like that reasoning. That's exactly what music should be about, and it should have a message behind it. I mean, back in the day, man, when I got into music, and I, you know, doing what I like, it was about rock and roll, and music was about playing an instrument, being good at it, being cool, being who you were, not pretending to be someone else so that other people like you, and that's what it's become. Right, sure. That's true, and for me, you know, just looking at it on, and I'm pretty sure maybe both of you have thought of this, Kevin especially, you can look at everything now, and it's just like, why are we basically watching videos or listening to songs where it's just about as titties, and all this stuff like that? I mean, it's fine for the club, man. It's okay for the club, but, you know, I made a club record, I feel like a record that you can play in the club that actually says something. You know, even back in the day, man, like even a lot of those disco records are cheaper like, well, whatever, you know, just silly records, they're not. I mean, you know, even I will survive. I mean, that's a great record, man. I like good music, and I'm open to everything, and that's like real stuff that you can also dance to. It doesn't have to be empty and meaningless. Exactly. Exactly. And which is the perfect segue into my next question, when you got into the music, did you have any musical artists that you looked up to that inspired you to do what you're doing right now? When I started, when I got into music in the beginning, I think at the beginning, I just wanted to be a good guitar player, and then I wanted to be a good producer, and then I wanted to be a good writer. But as far as the people that inspired me stylistically, I think everyone from Led Zeppelin to Jay-Z to Shaw Day to James Addiction to Miles Davis, I mean to Phil Collins Sting, I mean, good music, man. It's just, you know, like I said, as a producer, I always love Dr. Dre, Timmill and Neptune's Kanye. You know, I like the people, I try to look at the people who are the best at what they do and learn from them, and then maybe add something to it. Shaw Day, that's true. She is awesome. That voice is the best, man. Seriously. If I had one album to listen to the rest of my life would be Love to Locks, like Desert Island, it's a wrap. Especially when you're with the ladies, you know, definitely have to play some Shaw Day. I don't even do that anymore, man, I'm a rock star. We don't, we don't, we don't, we don't, yeah, no, I'm just messing with you, man. I'm just saying, like, basically, like, you don't need to, you know, we don't, we don't need to seduce women anymore. It happens naturally. You just gotta pull out that guitar and it's like panning your output. Yeah, so all the kids listening, you know, they're like, they're like running the guitar store right now. Like, it's gonna work for me. And it will. That's the natural pickup line. All you have to do is have a guitar around you, and then that's it. You're done. Well, the best pickup line for you right now is you heard of some of our letter rock? [laughter] It's so funny. So why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself? We would say. What do you like to do when you're, I mean, you're not touring when you're not, you know, making records. What do you like to do on your free time? I don't have any free time, man. Free, we're doing what? What am I gonna do? Like, you know, go play golf? You know, I mean, I make music, I make records. I'm working on a ton of other records for other people right now. I just do a few on Wayne's album. I do one for Rick Ross. I'm doing, I'm writing pop records. I'm writing rock records. I'm doing hip hop records. I mean, there's no limit to what I feel I can accomplish. And so I'm just working on everybody's records. You know, it's my time right now. I'm gonna make the most of it. And it's not stressful, man. I have the best life in the world. You know, I mean, I worked really hard to get here. I'm still grinding like crazy, you know, and we're going out and touring. Doing a ton of stuff coming up. I mean, but I basically make music, hang out with people that I like and take care of business. And, you know, it's a crazy business, but it's also a lot of fun. So, you know, I'm happy where I'm at. I don't have hobbies. Pretty cool. That's like it is here. I have no life. This is my life. Like, what am I gonna do? Like, go to a job to, like, five o'clock. And, you know, and then, you know, I don't know, watch fine film reruns or something. I mean, I don't even know what to tell you. There you go. We do have a, we do have a collar here from a, a nice little block area, you know. I'm, I'm flipping when it comes to block people. But, hey, make the most of it. All right, caller, you're on the line. How are you? Hi, y'all. Hi. What's going on? When you're all touring, I love your poetry. When you're gonna be touring to the south. We should get there. We're actually planning a tour for, for '09, so I don't actually know. But, you will know, I mean, you can check my live space. You can check on the website and we'll have all the tour dates there. Right now, we gotta go to Canada for a little bit. We're doing, you know, we gotta go to Sundance and we're doing NBA playoffs. Sorry, all-star game in February. So we're gonna be here a little bit. But, just check the website and it's KevinRudoff.com or MySpace.com/KevinRudoffMusic. And, you'll find out. I love your poetry. So good. Thank you. Good going, man. Cool. Well, caller, thank you so much for calling in. All right. And, just a reminder for you guys, I'm giving them all this fun. You can call in 646-595-4228 or you can go into the chat room, show this to people in the chat. Over there, I'm not near a computer. I'm like, "Nice to go to the little bed." Yeah, so, I'm not near a computer. I'm turning it that way. Well, like we just said, what else am I gonna be doing? You know, what else am I gonna be doing? I can't do anything else. Yes, I'm pretty much living in a dream and I'm enjoying every single last minute of it. So, you know, what else can I do? So, there you go. But, it's great that you have accomplished so much and so little time. And, it's just the inspiration to everybody else who does listen to your music to look on and just be like, "Damn, if he can do it, why can't I be able to do it?" Have you ever experienced something like that before? Man, I used to sit on a couch and other people are in there and, you know, whatever, Justin Timberlake or Timberland or all these people were, you know, were there and I was happy to be in the room and be a part of it and be a part of me, you know, adding to a record like that. But, I always thought, "Man, why isn't it me? How come I can't, you know, be in that position?" But, I also learned just, you know, if you stay with it long enough and you keep working and you keep being, you know, the idea is you gotta be good enough at what you do that no one can ignore you, you know. That's your power in this business. It's to be great at what you do. So, you know, I just, I stayed with it and I kept doing it until it was me. And now, that's a really rewarding part of it. Just keep going and don't give up until you, until you finally... Right, because it's loaded, you know, it's like this business, I mean, any business. It's like, you know, you're pushing the, like, a rock up a hill and you're pushing it up and then you're carrying all the weight and then you get to the top and then you, and then it starts going on the other side and then the success happens faster than you can even imagine and you can't even stop it, you know. That's what's amazing. You know, today's, I'm really excited and happy today because the single letter rock just hit 2 million sephs on iTunes. So, I'm like, this is incredible, you know what I mean? It's like, it's the same. Wow. I probably, I probably hit that milestone because I just bought the track just a few minutes ago. Thank you, man. I think that I did. I did. I bought the track. I mean, like I said, it's a fantastic song. And I hear it on the radio all the time, so I'll probably, you know, buy it. I totally hear it on the radio all the time. Cool. Play it incessantly, but, you know, it's just, it's got fresh beat, you know, and it's got meaning behind it. I mean, it's just, it's sheer music. I can't say nothing about it. It's probably, it's probably like the only song I pretty much talk about. I'm not kidding. I'm not kidding. I'm like saying it like, you know, saying it like to everybody, but no, I'm not kidding. It's probably the only song I talk about. Yeah. And it's just, no other song can do that. No other song can pretty much have me buzzing about it incessantly. Appreciate that, man. It is true. It is a lot. You would never buzz but another song. But let me ask you again, what is your favorite song to play on guitar? My favorite song to play in guitar? You mean my song? Like, any song. Like, in general. Um... I don't know. I don't really play songs in guitar anymore, man. You know, I'm working on my own stuff. It's not like I'm, you know, as a kid. I used to, you know, one thing I used to do, I used to watch TV. I'm just playing along with all the theme songs and everything. I'd be watching, like, growing pains and, like, be playing this. You know what I mean? I'd be doing everything, man. You know, I listen to radio. I just learn the song as it is. I don't really do that anymore. Guitar is sort of like a tool in my arsenal as a writer, as a producer. So I go, I'll be honest. I don't really sit around and play songs. I mean, I'm just being honest. I tell you, sit around and play stairway to heaven and look at the moon, but I don't. Does it take you a long time to get the song down on the paper and piece together all the music? Does it come to you naturally? It comes naturally, but you know what it is? It's like, I'll start with a beat. Like, let it rock. I started with a kick and a snare and a little pad. I started adding things to it. I started feeling. I just turned it up. I was like, "This feels great." And then I started, I was just vibing over, you know, just getting that feeling. I was like, "This sounds like a call to battle." And then I started, the words just started coming to me. I was just coming up with every word. I was just saying stuff like, "You know, I see your dirty face. You know, they're disgrace." You know, whatever. And I was just rhyming stuff and then started writing from the ideas down, started adding some more instruments, walked away from it, came back a day later, started messing with it. That actually was a slower song because it evolved over probably the course of maybe three weeks. But, and then once the song was written, I'll record the vocals and then I put all the instruments in after. And then we mix it and then, you know, obviously Wayne hopped on it and that's how it happened. It's amazing. It's awesome. I like that. And before you, before we wrap things up here, I wanted to ask you, most of the people on the show do singers. Would you like to do a singer for our show? Yes. Would I like to do a singer? I just like to put a promo. It's a promo. Oh, a line. Like a, like a, like a live course, man. I got you. Cool, cool. Go ahead Matt. Tell him how you want it. Tell me what you want. Tell me what you want, man. You can do whatever you want, you know, or you can say something like, "Hey, this is Kevin Rudolph." And you're listening to Buzzworthy Radio, but now you're like not a machine. So you can say whatever you want and do whatever you want. It's totally up to you. And you can do it whenever you're ready. Alright, yo, what's up? This is Kevin Rudolph. You're listening to buzzworthyradio.com. What was I going to say? I forgot the right. Let me do it again. Let me do it again. Alright, cool, cool, cool. Hey, what's up? This is Kevin Rudolph. You're listening to buzzworthyradio.com. It's .NET, right? It is. Well, damn it, man. Alright. Yo, what's up? We're doing the promo there. Okay, cool. We are using that on our next show. Kevin, man, it was awesome talking with you. Did you have a good time here on the show? I did, actually. This was like one of the best interviews I've done that you guys are just chilling. You're not like, "Hey, you know, you guys are cool." You're listening to buzzworthyradio. Yeah, you know. Awesome. Thank you so much. Good luck with everything. Thanks, man. You too. Alright, so we are on next with a platform. We don't know. I'm so sorry to have to date with him before January 16th. You guys have seen the previews for my bloody Valentine 3D. It's going to be an amazing movie. I'm just going to keep promoting it so it comes out. I want it to be like the number one movie. Thanks to all the people listening out there. Hopefully, because this movie deserves it. You don't understand. We were there for like 18-hour days on cold weather. It was awful. It was an awful. It was awesome. It was awful as in the time strain on you guys. Oh, yeah, yeah. You do. But it was totally fun. It was a great time. I just learned so much from it. So if you guys want to hopefully watch the movie, plus if you're a big fan of action and horror, mostly people getting killed in movies, which I'm a huge fan of. So like totally check that out. And if you like Jensen Ackles and James King and Chris Smith, Eddie, do you see these in it too? Check them out. Yeah. Exactly. But we're going to wrap things up here. We're actually going to close out the show with Let It Rock today. So we're going to close out with that song. I want to thank everybody who called in. Nicole, thank you so much for giving us a call in. Everybody in the chat room, man. Mike, go in there. Shout out. Yeah. Exactly. Awesome. Awesome having you here. Hopefully before-- I just want to say hold up. I can't believe he said-- did you say titties and ass earlier? Is that what I heard you say earlier? I said titties and ass. I'm sorry. I get all giddy when I hear this word. So yeah, if you guys ever want to make me laugh, like all your girls are there who want to make you laugh, just say those two words. Still make you laugh. I'm glad it made you feel good. That's my highlight. Here is the highlight of my day. I might just wait for it on my Facebook right now. And that's my new status. It might be-- Mac is titties and ass. You got a schedule update. We were supposed to have on hand from Big Brother 10 on the 20th of this month. Hey, what's going on for Bob Guinea? Are you supposed to get here? I had to push it back. We had to push it back to February the 10th. So it's going to be at the same time, but it's going to be at February the 10th now. So we had to push it back a couple of weeks, but we're definitely going to have him on the show on Mac Day instead. I got him in touch with Bob Guinea. He said as soon as he gets back up on his feet after the holiday season, we're definitely going to be going ahead and having him on the show. Of course. So we're getting underway there with that as well. Let's wrap it up with the rock from Kevin Rudolph. From all of us here at Buzzworthy Way here, make sure you get the latest Buzz with Buzzworthy. Music artist, Kevin Rudolf, will be making his first appearance on BuzzWorthy Radio!
At first glance, Kevin Rudolf’s enigmatic anthem “Let It Rock (featuring Lil Wayne)” seems to have air–dropped over radio out of nowhere, becoming a genre–defying game–changer that has put the alluring artist smack in the cross–hairs. Truth is – the urban music world’s been waiting for a cutting edge hit–maker with a rock pedigree to turn the page on the current musical landscape. Kevin Rudolf answers the call, stepping up with reigning hip hop imprint Cash Money Records to deliver a riveting album debut, In The City.
