Selling is not about wanting something from people. Selling is about wanting something for people. This is Sales for Nice People, the Daily podcast for ethical entrepreneurs who want to sell more because of their values and not despite them. This is episode 42, I am Martin Steller. I help nice people sell more. And this notion of wanting something for people is the simple switch in mindset and the way you look at selling that's going to make it easy for you as a nice person, as somebody with integrity, to enroll more buyers. Because when you feel awkward about the sales process, it is very difficult to get to a point where a buyer says, yeah, I like it, because how are you going to have the sales conversation? How are you going to present your offer? How are you going to make a proposal? How are you going to get paid, which word is worth? If you don't know how to have that sales conversation, well, you don't know how to have that sales conversation. If you feel awkward about it, you feel awkward about it because you have this internal idea that you want something from your buyer. Obviously, you want them to sign the contract, you want them to pay you. But those things are a consequence of you wanting something for your buyer, not from your buyer. The contract, the money, the repeat purchase, the introductions, they are the result of you having the intention of making life better for people. Or as Seth Godin famously says, people who wants to make things better by making better things. And when you have a better thing, when you provide a solution, coaching, consulting, a product, a service, installation or hardware, who knows what it is. If you provide something that actually really, truly makes things better for people, then obviously, logically, naturally, you want for people to have that solution. So instead of feeling awkward about the situation and letting your sales process fall to pieces because you don't know how to handle it, because you feel that you shouldn't want something from people, flip it around. Want something for your buyer, not from your buyer. Makes a difference, doesn't it? This was episode 42, tune in again tomorrow and sign up at martinsteller.com/nicepeople for a short daily email.
